Hoopydog got a reaction from Spartan in VHLM Hot and Cold - Playoff Push
So, with every team in the VHLM having played 50 games the race to make the playoffs are well and truly underway. Let’s have look at who’s red hot and who’s frozen cold

    Las Vegas Aces
First up we have the league leaders in scoring, the Las Vegas Aces. They currently sit atop of the western conference with a record of 36-9-5 scoring 225 goals in the process and they are showing no signs of slowing down. Having won 11 of their last 13 games, with both losses coming via a shootout, they have firmly cemented themselves as a cup contender. You can find scoring at both ends of the Vegas team, with the top line of Captain Chris Reynolds, Rhynex Entertainment and Gary Rush all in amongst the league’s top 10 point scorers and defensemen Kaspar Kankkunen leading the leagues d-men in scoring.

    Now let’s take a look at who’s been struggling…

    Ottawa Lynx
The Ottawa Lynx, after having a good start to the season, have really struggled to find their skates of late. Having won only 2 of there last 11 games, they find themselves heading towards the bottom end of the eastern conference. There struggle seems to come from a lack of scoring, as they have only scored 19 goals in their last 11 games. If the Lynx want to make the playoffs then they might want to take a look at adding some forward depth to their roster, maybe that might give their scoring the spark it so desperately needs.

    1. It says that when we step onto the ice we always put on show, that's the Vegas spirit baby
    2. I definitely think that there could be a few teams have a strong finished to the season and a few dark horse could appear. It's going to get interesting
    3. I can't pick any single guy from our locker room, they are all amazing and it would be unfair to single out an individual.
    4. I'm very confident in our squad, I don't think we need to make any moves.
    5. Being Scottish, I don't celebrate thanksgiving but I might go get some beer and some fireworks so I can celebrate with the team.
    6. I'm a team USA guy, we have quite a few reps on that team this year so I'm rooting for them to bring it home.

    1. I don't think our scoring is the problem (despite it having slowed), I think we need to tighten our d-zone game and then things should start picking up again.
    2. I wanna win a cup obviously, not only for me but I wanna do right by the team that chooses to draft me.
    3. All of the above. We have great skill in depth up and down the roster and everyone gets along. When you have both of those things, there's nothing that the team can't do.
    4. I'd probably say Yukon. They are a good team with some nice talent and they are keeping up with the top teams.
    5. I'm a coffee guy. Milk and 2 sugars please.
    6. I don't worry about the individual awards to be honest. I just play my game and help the team the best I can. If I get an additional award for doing so then great.

    1. I think my point production could do with being a bit higher, despite only playing bottom minutes, anything to help the team.
    2. For me, got to be Nick Sunderburch. That man is an absolute puck wizard, he can shoot, he can pass and he can most certainly dangle. Every time he steps out on the ice, the fans get a show put on for them.
    3. I don't see any glaring flaws on our team. We work hard and play hard every shift, our roster is littered with talent and our depth just keeps getting better and we look like a cup contender.
    4. Being a proud Scotsman, I just like to have the national anthem playing before I leave the locker room, gets me fired up for the game. Also love a tunnocks teacake before the game, nothing fixes any pre game issue like a teacake
    5. I think its amazing what the sim can do. This league is fantastic and the amount of detail that the sim can provide to make it all possible is brilliant.
    6. Absolutely criminal. Nope. Many things belong on a pizza... pineapple is not one of them.

So, the VHLM season has begun and already goals are being racked up by the bucket load. We have had a sneak peek for what’s to come for the remainder of the season. Let’s have a look to see who got off to a flyer and who got their skates stuck in the mud.

    Saskatoon Wild

The Saskatoon Wild got off to an absolute flyer of start to the current VHLM season, with 10-1-1 after 12 games they sit atop of both the league and western conference. They have most definitely been blessed with the scoring touch this year having scored at least 5 goals in 9 of their opening 12 games, now that’s a lot of goals. Forward Brian Strong Jr has largely been the key to their successful start to the season. He has notched up 18G and 36P so far this season leads the league in both departments.
Now let’s take a look at who has had a rough start

    Houston Bulls

The bulls have had a bad start to the season. They have a record of 1-0-11 and have taking some heavy beatings in the process. Having taken several high 7-0 shutout losses to both Yukon and Vegas, the bulls have had trouble not only getting the puck in the but also keeping the puck as they sit with a -49 goal differential

That’s the end of this weeks look at who’s flying and who’s stuck in the mud. Thanks for tuning in

    1. I'm feeling good about our start to the season, had a couple of rough games at the start but then we turned on the style and handed out some thrashings. We are looking good and I hope the good from continues
    2. I think there's always pressure there, regardless of when we last one a cup, but that just shows how good we are as a team. We wanna bring a cup home and that pressure just motivates us more to go out every night and get a result.
    3. I honestly can't pick a single person. Everyone in the locker room, from players to staff, are amazing and have been so helpful to all of the newer players so it would be unfair to pick a single person
    4. I don't know really, haven't given it much thought. Maybe cloudy, you know cause my last name is McCloud.
    5.  Alex Zouzouambe but when you see that top line on saskatoon its really no surprise cause they are red hot. No sure if they can keep it up all season long though
    6. I'd probably be a big bruising defensemen, just something different to what I'm playing as now.

    2. I like to go outside and chase some pigeons, helps keep my in peak physical condition and it's a lot of fun.
    3. Born ready baby, time to go bring the cup home.

    5. I don't look up to anyone really, I focus on my game and mould it around what I think makes a good player but I have a lot of respect for the guys up in the VHL
    6. Got a bit ropey making trades at the draft but you bounced back well and finished strong, glad to have you as the AGM

    Artair McCloud Junior Review

Artair McCloud is the next sensation to hit the VHLM. With a sniper’s aim and a wicked wrister, he has an elite scoring edge. Wheels like a Ferrari and tight turns on his edges he’s definitely a threat on the breakaway and he will have defenders quaking on their boots when they are left one on one with McCloud. We know all about McCloud’s on ice talents and clearly so did Las Vegas GM Spartan as he was snapped up in the Middle of the 4th round, what a steal! But who is Artair McCloud?

Born and raised in a small town outside of Glasgow, Scotland, Artair lived at home with his mother, father and older brother Douglas. He was always very sporty and wanting to try new things. Sport after sport came and gone; football basketball, rugby but none of them stuck quite as much, as hockey. He’d went try out for his local team, the Lanarkshire Lightning, where he learned the basics such as skating, puck handling and shooting. He was a natural. Due to his outgoing personality and sheer natural ability he was made captain of the U16 team which one back to back national championships, the second of which he was named tournament MVP scoring 15P in 10GP, with an impressive 5 PPG. This impressive outing earned him a move to his boyhood club, the Glasgow Clan.

It was a guessing game how McCloud would fair on the pro scene at just 16 years old. Being 6ft tall certainly helped to blend in amongst the veterans but could handle the physical intensity of pro hockey. The answer, was yes, he could. He only played limited 4th line minutes in his first season for the Clan but he was a crowd favourite straight away. His tenacity to make plays, keep the puck and chase down puck dumped down the ice, earned the respect of his teammates, opponents and fans alike. The following season he received an increase in ice time, which was being moved up to the third line and being added to the 2nd powerplay unit, where he, played RW and, really showed how gifted he was. He scored 32P in 52GP and scoring 20G with 5 of them coming on the powerplay. He was ranked 6th in scoring on his team and 1st amongst the other U20s playing in the league. This led to him being picked 43rd in the VHLM dispersal draft by the Las Vegas Aces.

Artair McCloud is definitely one to watch for the future. Whilst coming into the league with league experience and skill as some, his outgoing personality and professionalism will get him a long way in his rookie year. Watch out VHLM, Artair McCloud is coming and he wants the cup.
