I know this is obviously a serious issue that shouldn't happen.....but thats hilarious

I am able to take a step back and realize that the incident itself is funny when you think about it, but it's also not funny that a GM did that and changed the outcome of a situation that they had no part in and frankly should not have been involved with at all

I really did my best with Davos. People loved to hate on me (some warranted, some not) but we really did build a stacked team, we even had a deep playoff run in that window. But having.....certain drama players.....and getting fucked by STHS coupled with the "meme crowd" era starting, I just couldn't take it much more and mentally checked out

  4. My man, you are talking directly into my soul

My biggest issue since day 1 is the VHLM is a faux development league. The commish and all the GMs claim it's pure development, but that is absolutely not the case when there's a disproportionate amount of waiver signings and draft pick trading. Yes, I do agree that bringing members here from other sites or outlets means they should sign with your team, but we've seen with quite a few teams, that their first-gens just follow their lead when it comes to position and build, and that's why the same teams are competitive every year and magically have a million waiver signings. Also a magical coincidence that all these players go inactive after they win a VHLM cup and move up to the E.

Not to bring this up again, but I definitely am. We recently had an issue where I had a player set to sign with me, I even said PUBLICLY, "I'm at work but in a short bit ill send you a contract when I'm home." I come home to not only find out that they chose not to sign with me, BUT THEY CHOSE DIFFERENTLY BECAUSE ANOTHER VHLM GM TOLD THEM MY TEAM SUCKED. I'm not gonna go off about how good my team is, but we were in first fucking place, it's absolutely unacceptable that another authority figure would influence someone who doesn't know any better like that. I also find it appalling that said GM only got a slap on the wrist, especially when this GM has started controversy previously. I mean, how is it any different than tampering?

On the topic of Halifax getting so many waiver signings, I'm 110% certain there are behind-the-scenes conversations between GMs and waiver players. I do not think it's a coincidence that the same teams have the most waiver signings season in and season out. I've changed my waiver pitch, and I've even offered first fucking line minutes on a competitive team, and you're telling me every single player is magically ok playing 3rd line on a middle-of-the-pack team? Bullshit.

So yes, I agree wholeheartedly, this league has to pick a direction, either admit that we don't care about development or take steps that don't handcuff the teams that aren't blessed with 15+ waiver signings a season

    1. We're cookin so far this season, what's been contributing to our success?

    2. What are your player goals for the season?

    3. What inspired your player's name?

    4. Where do you see us finishing at the end of the season?

    5. Who is gonna win the Stanley Cup?

    6. What's your favorite ice cream flavor?

  6. This summer marks 5 years since I joined the VHL. Crazy because that's only a fraction of how long the league has been around. Hell, I've met some people who weren't even alive when the VHL started, what a crazy thought. It's kinda cool seeing what's changed in our lives since joining. I much like Bek was still in highschool, never kissed a girl and hadn't done much in my life. And don't get me wrong, 5 years is not that long in the grand scheme of things and there's more for me in-store, but it's cool looking back on the person I was 5 years ago knowing that I'm still GMing Halifax or still figuring things out

    Sinking the Titanic

Ottawa's journey to the finals starts with a duel against the Halifax 21st, led by @ShawnGlade. While finishing 7th, they were not a team to be taken lightly. With both defensemen maxed and a maxed goaltender, it could be wagered that this would be a strong, defensive battle, especially considering Ottawa and Halifax had the 1st and 2nd lowest goals against in the regular season, respectively. Game 1 did show some defensive prowess, but only for one team, with Ottawa beating out Halifax 4-1. Game 2 saw more offense, but the result being the same: a 4-3 win for Ottawa in overtime. Game 3? Repeat of Game 1: 4-1 win for Ottawa. Will we sweep? No. A strategy change for Halifax, focusing heavily on offense, allows them to squeak out a close overtime win against us in Game 4, with a score of 3-2. This could become something. In a sense, the 21st narrowly missed the iceberg destined to sink their ship, but as we know, the iceberg was bigger than it appeared. Despite the offensive strategy put in place, Ottawa blanks Halifax in Game 5 with a score of 2-0, winning the series, and sinking Halifax.

Despite HFX finishing 7th and it looking like an easy win for OTT, I'll say the series was a lot closer than it looked. 3 of the 5 games were 2 goal games with two of them being decided in OT. Helluva ride even though we lost

...and apparently NOT EVEN ONCE ALONG THE WAY had earning explained properly despite playing for SIX different teams on all three levels of the league. London is team #7, and this player literally just learned how to earn tonight.

I understand this is serious and a failure on GMs alike, but i couldnt help but chuckle at this fact

    1. It's a new season! What are your expectations for us this year?

    2. What do you hope to accomplish on a more personal level?

    3. What did you think of our draft?

    4. Where do you see us finishing at the end of the season?

    5. Who's your favorite NHL team?

    6. Would you rather know HOW your die or WHEN you die? Why?

  10. I think for question 2 specifically I'd like to see more defined rules about players who essentially control their own fate in regards to play time, teams, etc.

The instance we saw this past season was a player who made it known they would only play for two certain teams, otherwise they'd skip the VHLM. That player went on to win the DOTY award on a great team. It's absolutely within the rules and there's no denying that, but that again brings up the question of what is the spirit of the league? Are we emphasizing development or competitiveness, or maybe a mix of both? I'd just like to see something change in that regard especially considering it's harder for teams to just stack up on high-end players with the new draft pick rules while a lucky team essentially gets a free cap fall into their lap
