  4. I knew I was missing somebody! I'll amend that in episode 2.
  5. https://www86.zippyshare.com/v/X8Czc1Uf/file.html Ignore my cat in the background.
  6. Sniper? Love the sound of that! Great write up.
  7. I want in please.
  8. @Romaris welcome to Ottawa! Can't wait to play together on the ice.

    1. Romaris

      Romaris

Glad to join the team. Looking forward to playing with ya on the ice and taking home the cup this year

  9. Review - The color on this is striking. You incorporated that background texture and the player masterfully. The text pops against the yellow background and the whole piece has sort of a grungy aggressive feeling to it. Amazing work here, truly.
  10. Review - This is an awesome logo design. I think I like the version with text a bit more, but they're both very nice. I like how you incorporated the skyline and the vignette. It doesn't hurt that the logo reminds me of Nightwing, either. Great work here.
  11. Review - I really like the pattern on the right hand side of the graphic. Almost has a carbon fiber-esque feel to it, if that makes sense? Even though it's obviously not carbon fiber. I like your choice of font as well.
  12. Review - Very nice! I enjoy the bottom jersey more, I think. I really like the stripes on the arms and across the stomach area. The logo blends in really nice. 10/10.
  13. Review - Always great to read a rags to riches story. It's the classic, right? Would have been awesome to have you here in Ottawa with us, but the cards fall how they fall. The word count may have ended up falling a little short, but you're not lacking for content. Every sentence is important and continues the narrative of Flipachyev's life. I really enjoyed reading this bio.
  14. Thank you for the kind words! Thankfully not a real story, just made it up.
  15. 1. Halifax is an expansion team. What are your thoughts about being a part of the first roster that this team has ever put on the ice? 2. You're one of three goalies currently on the Halifax roster. What can you do to stand out from your peers and earn that starting spot between the posts? 3. What are your feelings towards being on a team with Flipachev, who's being heralded as one of the most interesting young prospects from the draft? 4. What personal goals do you hope to achieve this season? 5. Halifax is a long ways from home for you. What do you think will be the biggest challenges from this long distance move? The best benefits?
  16. I like these. The second one would make a cool alternate text only jersey.
  17. Thank you for the advice! I will do that going forward.
  18. I edited the post. Does it look better now?
  19. I do have those things at the top underneath my player photo. Can I edit the post and resubmit it for TPE?
  20. Chance Matthews - Center Age: 18 Birthdate: 11/15/1999 Height: 6'3" Weight: 210 lbs Hometown: Seattle, WA Chance Matthews is an American player with youth league, high school, and junior association experience. His most recent professional experience comes from a two year stint with the Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League. In his first year with the team they got to the final but fell just short of winning the Ed Chynoweth cup. Matthews centered the third line for the team and his line saw an average of 13.5 minutes per game. In High School Chance centered the first line and saw an average of 30 minutes per game and his team the Omaha Central High School Eagles got to the state semi-finals. In the high school season Chance recorded 25 assists and 3 goals across 25 games. Strengths Passing: Passing is by far Matthews' biggest strength. His passes are accurate, but not excessively flashy. Through his first 10 games with the Seattle Thunderbirds Matthews recorded 8 assists and his third line lead the team in point production. By the end of the regular season he had recorded 70 assists through 72 games. Matthews rarely is focused on the net, more often than not looking for his other players instead. Compared to the previous year the goals from assists of the forward's Matthews played with went up 17% Face-Offs: Matthews is a very good face-off center. At the end of the WHL regular season he was fifth in the league for FO win % with 54.9%. He has quick reaction timing off the puck drop and is good at locking up the opposing center's stick. When winning the puck out of the face-off Chance quickly moves the puck up the ice into the opposing third. Skating: While not the strongest skater by a long shot, Matthews is extremely slippery on the ice and is good at avoiding checks and hits. Compared to his first game in the WHL Matthews' skating speed has improved noticeably. Further improvement is to be expected. Chance is more of a finesse skater than a speed skater. Weaknesses Scoring: Chance Matthews is not a strong scoring option. Throughout the regular season of the WHL he only recorded 20 goals through 72 games. He rarely shoots the puck. If a crucial goal is needed then you don't want Chance to be the one taking the shot. Defense: Defense is lacking due to skill not physicality. With time he could develop a defensive skillset, but currently he is not a reliable option to stop the opposing offense. Because of his size he's slow to intercept players and his defensive positioning is not at the level to make up for the lack of mobility on the defensive end. Penalties: Matthews attempted 4 penalty shots during the WHL season and scored on only 1 of them. Matthews should avoid the penalty situation as much as possible. He has a hard time getting around the goalie in a 1v1 scoring situation.
  21. Early Life Chance Matthews was born in Everett, Washington on November 15th, 1999 to Carla and Adam Matthews. The youngest of three children, Chance lived off of the hand-me-downs of his older brothers Thomas and Allen. Carla was a homemaker and Adam worked for a large metal fabrication plant, so for a lot of Chance's early years money was tight. Thomas, who was ten years older than Chance always watched after him and was far more caring than Allen, who resented Chance for getting so much attention from his family. When Chance was five years old Thomas took him down into Seattle to see the Bears playing a home game and Chance immediately fell in love with the game. This gesture by Thomas would shape Chance's future. For his sixth birthday Chance got posters, cards, shirts - all featuring the Seattle Bears and the players on the team. He had become hooked on hockey. With money being so tight and the family not having cable television Chance was unable to watch the Seattle Bears again, whether in person or on TV. Even though Thomas was more of a Seattle Seahawks football fan, he began to get Bears apparel and quickly passing it down to his youngest brother Chance so that he could show his love for the team and the sport. Moving to Seattle When Chance was eight years old his father Adam landed a job at Boeing. With an influx of cash and needing to move closer to his job, the Matthews family settled into a nice town house in the Capitol Hill district. Now with the family in the city Chance was able to go to multiple Bears games a month, and his obsession with hockey continued to grow. He was regularly attending sessions at the practice facility, and began to be recognized by the players as he was always waiting around for autographs before and after games. At ten years old Chance signed up for his first youth hockey league, and quickly began to stand out from his peers with his selfless play and passing ability. Although things were starting to go well for Chance, back at home there were issues. Carla was feeling dissatisfied in her marriage and her life without a career. Adam was always tired and stressed, and the final straw came when Carla had an affair with a friend from college. Life Turmoil After the divorce Carla headed for her home city of Omaha, Nebraska and Chance went with her while Allen stayed with Adam. Thomas had been away at University during this time, and stayed independent. Chance quickly adjusted to life in Nebraska. He played in youth leagues until he was thirteen, and when he had the opportunity joined the varsity hockey team at his high school. Omaha Central High School went to the state semi-finals, but due to injuries and lack of depth on the team they got eliminated. Chance was devastated, but promised the team that he would get them to the promised land the following year. Life had other plans, however. Carla died in her sleep from a massive brain hemorrhage and Chance had to return home to live with Adam and Allen back in Seattle. Things were tense between the three and after many arguments and fights Chance decided to move out to live with his brother Thomas who was living in an apartment in nearby Tacoma, Washington. Chance continued to go to school, but none of the high schools in the Tacoma area had a hockey team, so he was forced to quit playing. He got a job working at a local skating rink maintaining the ice and cleaning the facilities to help Thomas out with the rent. After many months of working Chance's boss caught wind of his skating abilities and promoted him to the position of skating teacher for youth and intermediary learners. While working at the ice rink Chance met Victoria Webb, who would become his future fiancee. The two met while Chance was helping teach a beginners skater class that Victoria's younger cousin was attending and they formed a quick bond. Chance and Victoria were inseparable and spent most of their waking hours in each other's company. When meeting her family for the first time Chance learned that Victoria's father Ted Webb was the general manager of the Seattle Thunderbirds, a nearby minor league hockey team. Chance brought up his love for the game and Ted set up a tryout for Chance to prove what he was capable of. Finally, a big break was on the horizon. The Thunderbirds The tryout with the Seattle Thunderbirds went very well, and after the first tryout where Chance had to show off basic skating, stick handling, and shooting skills the coach wanted to see more. A second tryout was scheduled where he was tasked with skating against the Thunderbird's defensemen and their goalie in the net. After several attempts Chance was able to score a goal and the coach gave him a chance centering the third line. The Seattle Thunderbirds had a promising run in the WHL, but got eliminated in the final round of the playoffs by the Brandon Wheat Kings in 6 games. There was a lot of turmoil between the team following the loss. Chance's third line had some of the best point production of any of the lines on the team, yet the head coach Bryan Danielson refused to give them more ice time and third line right winger Edward Miller felt like the coach's decisions and the lack of ability of the first two lines lead to their eventual defeat. Moving Forward During the next season Chance's third line saw even less play than the year before due to the backlash after the loss. Edward Miller was traded to the Portland Winterhawks, and after that Chance was moved to the fourth line. Shortly thereafter he resigned from the team and retired from the WHL. Chance took his earnings from his playing and local ad campaigns and him and Victoria got a small apartment together in the heart of Seattle. Shortly thereafter he proposed to Victoria and after weighing all their options the couple came to the conclusion that Chance should declare for the VHLM draft.
  22. 1. I'm excited to be on a team that was carefully constructed and where I am able to be a top 6 forward so quickly. I think that given the opportunity and with the abilities of the guys who I share a line with I have been given a great opportunity to shine here in Ottawa. 2. I am very open to the Seattle Bears since that's my hometown team, I also see Calgary as a potential destination I could see myself enjoying. 3. I really want to be that guy who you never know what he's going to do next with the puck. When I have it I'm always going to trying to see who's open and make sure I get it right to them. Scoring might be flashy, but somebody needs to give them the puck and that guy is me. 4. I definitely think that given enough time I can be a part of a cup winning team. Hall of fame is a longshot, but I would be honored to make it in. 5. Favorite hockey team? Well it's obvious isn't it? The Ottawa Lynx!
