Very happy to be on team Canada after two straight snubs.
-
1st Overall - D, Ryan Sullivan Jr Although Dahlberg has now overtaken RSJr in TPE, I still believe that the New York Americans made the right choice in drafting him first overall. Sullivan ended fit nicely into a very top-heavying team in New York, as the partner for Joe McWolf that the Americans needed. Sullivan is also far less controversial than Dahlberg and doesn't command such a big salary. The Americans could have gone for Dahlberg but it would have been far more risky, because he seems less loyal than Sullivan and could have left to test out UFA after his ELC expired. 2nd Overall - LW, Elias Dahlberg Considering how much the Davos GM talks about Dahlberg, it's not really a surprise here. Dahlberg is now the best player from his draft and although he is often getting in trouble, the Davos GM was willing to take that risk. Dahlberg is proving himself as an elite talent for Davos this season and if he didn't have such a bad attitude, he would be way out in front of Sullivan now in my rankings. My guess is Dahlberg disagrees with this list. 3rd Overall - RW, Pat Svoboda With the fact being that New York now would have their top defenseman, I think the obvious choice would have to have been Svoboda. He is now way ahead of Ylonen in TPE and New York was able to grab themselves a first line center this season, which screwed Ylonen over. If New York had taken Svoboda, he could be riding high with Carles Puigdemont, but instead he is in Davos with his old Ottawa teammate, so I'm sure he's happy anyways. Ylonen was a poor pick by New York and he is starting to look like a bust. 4th Overall - RW, Diljodh Starload Calgary did end up grabbing Starload with the 7th pick in the draft, but he now looks to be a lot more valuable than he did at the time. A second year in juniors, where he exceeded beyond his peers, seems to have pushed him ahead of many of his draft-class mates. If Calgary had an interest in Starload, they would have picked him earlier this time, to be safe. In the real S64 draft, Calgary drafted center, Mark Gebauer at this position, and while he is still a good prospect, he is not really what you would want from a 4th overall pick. Gebauer's development seems to be slowing down a substantial amount and was picked up by Moscow in the expansion draft. It only makes sense that Calgary would go for their franchise player in Starload with their first pick. 5th Overall - RW / C, John Madden If the Vancouver Wolves (Formerly Quebec City Meute) had the S64 draft to do over again, the first thing that they would change would be their first selection. Pat Svoboda, although he seemed like a good prospect, had no interest in playing for Vancouver and wanted out badly. His morale was non-existent through all of S64 and he only scored around 16 points with Vancouver, over the course of 50+ games. Svoboda, like Dahlberg, has had some attitude issues and it would have been better for Quebec to steer clear of them. Before the draft, there had been lots of rumours circling of Madden going to Vancouver, and he seemed like he wouldn't have minded. With Madden, Vancouver would have still gotten their right winger, minus the attitude. 6th Overall - D, Piotr Jerwa 6th Overall is where Madden ended up going, but with him in Quebec and the other top draft picks dropping in the ranks, Davos would have taken Jerwa to fix their need for defense, as they did, only this time it would be with the 6th pick that they selected him. Jerwa was unhappy about falling out of the first round and he would likely be fine if he was selected at 6. He would not feel the need to leave the organization and he would be inspired to play for his new team. Jerwa would likely still put up the same numbers as a rookie, possibly better ones. 7th Overall - C, Joel Ylonen Ylonen at 7 makes a lot more sense to me and I think unfair pressure was put on the man in the weeks leading up to the draft, because he was on a hot streak, but in my opinion, even back then, he should have been taken no higher than 5th overall. With all the hype of being a top 3 pick and trying to keep up with the 1st and 2nd picks while also trying to stay ahead of everyone below you, 3rd overall would be like the worst possible place to be taken. If Ylonen went to Calgary, they would still get the center they need, but at a lower cost. Ylonen had a good rookie season too and would mesh will with Starload and Revchenko on the first line. To me, Ylonen was never an elite prospect but he is still very very good and would have an easier time passing for a seventh overall pick without the criticism. 8th Overall - D, Jagger Philliefan When Riga picked Kyson Blake at 8, it seemed like a solid pick and nothing was out of the ordinary, but over time, Blake has fallen off the radar and has shown very little sign of development over the last few months. With Crimson and Randoms both being on the left, Riga is no longer in need of a left winger and their need for second-pairing defensemen is much stronger. At the moment, Riga has Bolt Vanderhuge and Dylan Nguyen on their second pair, neither of whom are nearly as good or have as bright a future as Philliefan. Not only would Philliefan be the perfect fit in Riga, but he is also one of the best players available, so this to me is the obvious pick for them. Conclusion Feel free to let me know if you want to see more of these types of lists, maybe for the later rounds or maybe for other draft years. It is rare that I am able to write a serious article on VHL but this is something I enjoy doing. I'll probably do another one soon, either on S63 picks or rounds 2-5 of the S64 draft. First media spot on VHL too so thank god I got that monkey off my back. See y'all later! 1,173 Words Claiming for March 11-17 and 18-24

I like it generally, seems toxic at times, people take things seriously, I like to troll. Once in awhile I find a good article that I can actually get through without going insane, but I really like the realism of the league and it feels like you are a real player, plus you're a beauty Thranduil, and I hope Moose and Madden will one day be reunited. Hire me as coach. I'll make those dogs run and put them in the best shape of their life. It doesn't matter if they hate me because I'm leaving for Latvia next season, and then I'll probably reject an extension and go to Davos to play with Madden. Brampton Blades. Davos. Davos. I will, but the rest of the team will not be as good, they'll be better. Improvement is natural and we'll see it... Especially if I'm coach.

I went a goal per game in my first 6 and then haven't scored in three. So overall, I'm very disappointed that I'm not scoring lots of goals now. I don't know man. I think we just got the talent. Moose is a beast too. 69 So. My defense and my hitting and fighting and strength are awesome. Now I just need to learn how to keep the puck long enough to pass it off. Also my shot is godly, 6 goals in 6 games at first. Let's gooooo. Man, it's fun being this cringey. Hate Las Vegas, my old team that never played me and then beat us in the finals. I am not happy with them. We gotta win against them. Nope. Get good!

Basaraba Moose's Story (Michael Rasmussen Style)

Basaraba Moose is the best player the VHLM has seen since the days of Harold Lockersmith. When he played juniors, Wayne Gretzky was his coach and taught him how to score 300 goals per game. Basaraba Moose once took on Dwayne Johnson, Dean Titan, Jeremiah Seinfeld and Harold Lockersmith, all in one go. He beat all of them off and ripped off Johnson's hair which is why he is now bald. Two weeks later, Basaraba was walking and was jumped by Rebbecca Landry and his cohorts. (It's 2015 people, boys can be named Rebbecca) After shooting him with 1,000 nukes from their 20 foot cannons, which were still only half the height of Moose, the US army finally got him to the ground, which had never happened before or since. Basaraba Moose took all his clothes off and became captain underpants and destroyed the planes that were shooting him. I hope now you all know why Basaraba Moose is a player that is scoring at almost a goal per game rate with 4 goals in 5 games. God given talent. The end. This was shit to write but you gotta earn that 2 TPE somehow. Hopefully Michael Rasmussen is proud of me. Also, my entire personality is a joke if you can't tell. I'm not actually like this. Ok bye.

1. With the draft being recently how do you feel Halifax made out in comparison to the other teams and does this put us in a good enough spot to compete in your opinion? I liked our picks mostly. Tyr and Volosenkov both seem to be active and keen to help out the team. Thran tells me they're both from Halifax too which is cool. We picked up Gaudette late and he's done his rookie profile this week which is awesome. Good pick there. We got Nacho who has been very active so far, huge steal there. Rash and Wilson were meh, but no draft is perfect. 2. McWolf and I are really trying to create a positive atmosphere with our private discord locker-room? Have you gotten a chance to try it out yet and if so, what do you think of it and is there anything you would suggest to us for a more positive user-friendly experience? I don't really use the Discord unless I need to. Not really into all that smalltalk. 3. Who is your bestie on the team so far? Probably Teagan Glover. Good to see an active guy come back from last season. Hopefully we both can get lots of points this season. 4. Captains will be chosen at the end of the week. If you were in charge of picking them, who would be your choices? I would've chosen Glover, Tyr and maybe Freeman, Freeman seems active and ready to go. Don't really know anyone else. 5. What are your goals for your player this season? I would hope I can break 20 points for once, preferably get as many as 50 or so. Other than that, I want to lead Halifax as a number one defenseman. 6. What do you have to offer as a player, or in other words, how do you feel you can help Halifax going forward? Really been working on my defense, strength and checking, but recently I've also been focusing on puck handling because I know this season the team needs me to be one of their go-to guys like Vanderhuge, Fish and Guy were last season, so I'm all ready to make adjustments to my game.

Halifax 21st through the eyes of a rookie [1/2]
Toasty replied to rjfryman's topic in Archived Media Spots
@rjfryman Best article I've seen a Halifax player write in my time on the site! Can't wait to share ice-time with you this coming season and by the way, I haven't really had a chance to introduce myself. My name is Basaraba Moose, but most of my teammates called me Madman Moose last season for reasons that I hope you won't have to see too often. Either way, if you need anything, I'm here to help out whenever! -
Disclaimer: Don't take this seriously. I'm just kidding around. I have no idea what to write but the VHLM draft just happened so I am attempting to do something on that. Each team performed very well blah blah blah. Houston made some killer picks. So that happened. Let's see. Oh great, now I have to spend half an hour looking for the draft thread. Found it! Where was I? Hmm. I can't remember. Oh well, moving on. Oh wait, I remember now. For some reason Houston chose a seemingly inactive 30 TPE player over a 130 TPE player. I mean my buddy Thranduil told me that the GM has a thing for Anime and so does the guy he picked, but no Anime is good enough to pass up on a 130 TPE player who still claims to get some trash boi. Next up, and this one made me laugh, following the theme of expansion teams drafting well, Philadelphia selected a dude who is already over the VHLM cap so they literally threw away their first round pick for nada. Oh man, doesn't that kind if thing just make your day? Ok, maybe not but it is kind of funny still. Well I don't know, maybe I'm just sadistic. Next up we got Halifax moving up like 1 or 2 spots in the draft by trading their third round pick and their fifth rounder. Big waste of a 5th. They basically gave Yukon a 5th for free. Now its time to rate the performances of each team at the draft from 1 to 8. 1. Las Vegas 2. Saskatoon 3. (Other Team) 4. (Another Team (Forgot Names)) 5. Halifax 6. (Other One) 7. Houston 8. Philadelphia Big bore to write this article but Moose gotta carry Halifax so I need the TPE. G'night.

1) The finals are on, Vegas vs Halifax. Who's your pick and why? Vegas because they won already. 2) The VHL and VHLM draft are coming up this offseason. If you're getting drafted to the VHL this year, where do you hope you go? If you've already been drafted, what are you most looking forward to in the VHL? Looking forward to contract negotiations, free agency, more trades and movement. All that. 3) With the offseason upon us, what's your player's favorite postseason activity? Beer pong. 4) Looking back at this last season, what's one thing you're going to miss about the VHLM once you've moved up? Halifax, my team. 5) Coaches always push for their players to "leave it all out on the ice." Do you feel like your player followed that mantra this season, or is there more to them that we have yet to see? Moose is a madman on the ice, but is very calm and collected off the ice. He has a great locker-room presence. 6) Excluding the drafts and offseason tournament, what would you like to see the VHL host in the offseason in order to make it a little more fun? Beach day.

Disclaimer: This article is inspired by YouTuber UrinatingTree and nothing written within it is meant to be taken seriously Calgary Wranglers After hanging on to hopes for a dynasty that was never there, for far to long, Calgary GM Bushito finally resigned himself to a rebuild. And some rebuild it was. The team was flat, uninspired and downright pathetic. Attendance was at its lowest since S58 and aside from rookies Brick Wahl, Mark Gebauer and Wlodzimierz Zajaczkowski showing some potential, the final hurah for Calgary came from veteran Jasper Canmore who put up decent numbers in one last attempt at reliving the old days. Calgary, get used to the basement because you aren't going anywhere. HC Davos Dynamo I don't even know where to start with this one. This season, Davos was the definition of an abomination. The roster and management was made up entirely of underachievers and players way in over their heads. Newly appointed GM Shawn Glade failed to meet expectations as the savior of this dumpster fire, after being advertised as one of the better VHLM GMs in recent history, and made no impact besides leading the team to a league-worst record of 16-50-6. VHLM sensation and second overall pick, Elias Dahlberg was absolutely dreadful in every single game that Davos played and after scoring 118 points with the Ottawa Lynx of the VHLM, severely dropped off in the VHL and only managed an atrocious 37 points. Continuing the trend, Shawn Glade traded for Pat Svoboda who played with Dahlberg in the VHLM, producing at a point per game pace, in an attempt to rekindle some chemistry between the two. Long story short, it didn't work and Svoboda finished the season with 20 points. Davos had a bunch of VHLM level players who did absolutely nothing. Namely Elias Sobeck, Bastion Logan Mac Finsceal, Phil Bennington and Paul Dimirio Jr come to mind. The only bright spot was rookie Randoms who, having no one decent to play with, still put up 57 points and is a contender for rookie of the year. Davos has built their team around underachievers, so underachieving is what they do best. Good luck losing in the first round for the next 5 seasons Davos! New York Americans All I can say is thank God for Joseph McWolf. Without him, the Americans would be finishing at the bottom of the standings every year with out a miss. There seems to be a losing attitude in New York, so although the team has plenty of talent, they can't seem to put it all together and actually win more than 25 games in a season. This season was yet another 25 win season and the team showed very little, if any, improvement. Scott Shawinganen, the guy who looked like he could be a future MVP and who the Americans needed to take a big step forwards, did the opposite and instead finished with less points than he did as a rookie. This seemed to be a trend with New York and no one, other than McWolf, really took the reigns and showed much leadership. After being at the bottom of the league, what New York needed most was to show improvement, and they failed to do so. This team is destined for another 10 years of mediocrity until they figure out how to get better.
