  2. Expanding the VHLM was an excellent decision by the Commisioners. Having 8 teams will bring a lot more parity and competition to the league. Free agents will have more options to sign with, making it difficult to build a team on waiver claims alone. The added teams mean that the VHLM won't follow the same basic routine of three contenders and three rebuilders year after year. There will be more middle of the pack teams then before who will have to decide whether to rebuild or contend once they arrive at the deadline. Teams won't be so stacked with talent, meaning players with 200 TPE won't ever be forced to play second line minutes anymore and the chances of having a dynasty that follows the trend of contending every other year will go down. The fact that the league is implementing a lottery spices it up. The worst team is no longer guaranteed a first overall pick which will take away from the attraction of tanking just to be the best team the following season. There will be more chance to build rivalries and hopefully you will no longer end up having the same teams play one another three games in a row. Overall, I think expansion was the best thing for the VHLM as it is a growing league and more ice-time for everyone means more fun for everyone.
  3. Halifax defense-man, Basaraba Moose has finally started to play like himself again, since being traded to the Halifax 21st. In Las Vegas, Moose got very little ice-time and had no connection with any of his teammates whatsoever. Normally, Moose is a force, when it comes to physical and mental aspects of the game but after playing 34 games with the Aces this season, all Moose had to show for was 2 assists and a lousy -1 rating. Not even a single PIM, which is very out of character for a player like Moose, who typically is very emotional and stands up for his teammates by pounding on the opponent relentlessly until they beg for mercy. Moose just felt uninspired and worn out in Vegas. It felt to him like there was nothing worth playing for. And so, a relentless drought ensued. Moose was initially given a larger responsibility on the team, but he slowly fell out of favor, spending the good part of the season on the third pairing, eventually getting altogether scratched from the lineup. Halifax picked Moose up at the deadline for cheap and all of a sudden he felt some life in him again. He had returned to his old team and had something to play for. Since being traded, Moose has done well with the 21st for his standards, putting up 2 goals and 3 assists and posting a +5 rating in the 13 games he has played for Halifax. Things are looking up for Moose and he can't wait to face down Las Vegas in the playoffs.
  4. Basaraba Moose | #2 D | 6' 3" | 203 lb | Age: 25 | Halifax 21st SUMMARY Basaraba Moose Born: July 8, 1993 Birthplace: Prince George, BC, Canada Shoots: Left Draft: S64 28th Overall, Riga Reign STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES Strengths 1. Defense Basaraba Moose is one of the most defensively sound players in the VHLM. You can always rely on him to make the safe play in his own zone or steal the puck off of a dangerous attacker. He is good at covering for a more offensively gifted partner who likes to take risks. Moose can block shots and guard his own net all game long, every single game of every single season. He is of the opinion that the position of defense was created so someone could defend and that is what Moose does. 2. Checking Moose is one of the better hitters on his team. In S63, he averaged almost 3 hits per game in Halifax over about half of a season. At 6'3", Moose is a relatively big guy so getting hit by him can be devastating for the opponent. Moose also is very good at the stick-checking aspect of his game. He has no trouble stripping the attacker of the puck, almost every time they enter his zone. Being hard-hitting and good with his stick makes Moose one of the top checkers in the VHLM and most opponants choose to steer well clear of him when they are on the ice with him. He is a big, physical, intimidating presence and his style of play lets him perform even better in the playoffs. 3. Puck Control Moose is always very reliable in his own end and typically passes the puck off early to make the smart play, but when he chooses to hold onto it, which is fairly rare, its very hard to steal it off him. Moose is a top end stick-handler and uses this to his advantage when killing penalties or running the clock down. This, combined with his physicality make it virtually impossible to take the puck away from Moose. If an opponent somehow gets the puck off of him, Moose gives them a little shove and takes it right back. Most defenders choose not to venture into Moose's side of the ice because if they did, they would be asking for it. Moose is never afraid to drop the gloves and stick up for his teammates and you had better hope you aren't the one he's fighting. Weaknesses 1. Scoring Moose doesn't have many weaknesses but offense is definitely one of them. He lacks the ability to shoot the puck accurately with consistency and doesn't get a lot of chances to score. Moose's shot is hard but extremely inaccurate and rarely finds its target. When it does though, the puck often goes in. Throughout Moose's career, he has taken 43 shots in 84 games. 7 of those shots have found the back of the net, giving Moose a SHT% of over 16%, a number that is very high for a defensize defense-man. Madden isn't typically involved in his team's offensive opportunities and has relatively low career totals in points, only putting up 19 points after more than a full season worth of games. Low totals don't phase Moose though and he just wants to keep playing his game and not expect to score every game, but be grateful when he does. 2. Discipline It's honestly hard to tell whether discipline is a strength or a weakness for Moose because he has a bad temper, but it seems he has been able to subdue it recently. Last season, Moose had a whopping 56 PIM in 31 games, and it seemed he couldn't stay out of the box, but to many people's surprise, Moose almost looks like he is turning his game around. This season, after playing 47 games, all Moose has taken is 4 minor penalties for a total of 8 PIM. When asked what his reason is for the sudden change of heart, Moose just says, "Playing such small minutes in Vegas lost me my confidence. I had no relationship with the players and no reason to stand up for them, plus I was only playing sometimes 8 minutes a night. I wanted nothing more than to go back to play with my old friends in Halifax. I felt like an outsider all season long. I was miserable and I guess it made my PIM go down, whether you view that as a good thing or a bad thing is up to you but, in my opinion, I take penalties because I'm an emotional guy, so if there's a lack in PIM, there's a lack in emotion. 3.Skating While Moose's skating isn't really a weakness of his, it lacks more than all the other aspects of his game and he intends to improve at it. He has below-average speed and acceleration and generally decides to stay in his own zone so he doesn't get caught flat footed. Sometime's Moose's speed or lack thereof means he has trouble taking the puck away from a speedy defender so typically Moose stays around his own net when he's on defense. While Moose's skating does limit him in some aspects of the game, he doesn't let that stop him and is still a dominant force in his own end, each and every night.
  5. WTF we are still in S64 and already planning for S66. Seems so distant.
  6. Wow, didn't score any goals in all 34 games I played in Las Vegas but finally got my first of the season in my second game wearing the Blue and White once again. Happy to be back on my old team!
  7. Player Name: Basaraba Moose VHL/VHLM Team: Halifax 21st Cash you have: $6,500,000 Purchase Name: First Generation Cost of Purchase: $500,000 Cash Left: $6,000,000
  8. 1. Well, I haven't been active recently but from what I've seen he only has 2 points so far. No goals yet. I hope to improve that rate because its pretty pathetic. 2. It is a bit unclear to me what team I am a part of but I beleive I have been traded from Las Vegas to Halifax from what my friend, Thranduil told me. Halifax looks to be doing ok, not as good as Las Vegas, hopefully I can help. 3. I would think so, hopefully that won't include the playoffs too. I played for Halifax last season and we got pretty close but hopefully this year we actually win the cup. 4. I am unsure of most players but I remember that Nathan MacKinnon was very good on Halifax last year. I probably didn't enjoy playing against him very much. Thank god he is on my team. 5. Basketball, just casual, but I enjoy the odd game here and there. 6. Kiev Slavs or something. Ukraine is close to Russia. They mustn't be too bad at hockey, but also I am not very poetically creative so that is the best I could come up with.
  9. This is my first graphic. I realize it isn't very good but I tried hard on it. It is a picture of my player, Basaraba Moose on Halifax, which I'm fairly sure is the team I am currently assigned to / playing for, though I am not 100% sure. I am glad I came back to the VHL. Back in December, I was having fun but forgot all about it over Christmas. Today, the man who first recruited me to the league, @Thranduil, PMed me on Discord out of nowhere and told me that his team had acquired me in a trade and he was wondering if I would come back. Thank god he did that because I love VHL from what I've seen so far and can't wait to put lots more hours in. Anyhow, I hope you enjoy my graphic and I look forward to getting to know everyone on this lovely site. +6 Points
