As it has been customary at the start of every new season, we sit down to talk to Greg Eagles about his last season and the upcoming season. R: Welcome Greg, Great to have you back for the 4th time in what has been a great yearly interview segment G: No problem, always a pleasure to come in R: First off, congratulations on the new contract. You have extended your contract to Season 73 with the Wolves. How does that feel? G: I'm excited. I think everyone knew that I wanted a long term contract to stay in Vancouver. Myself and management worked on the details in the off-season and we were able to get something done. This contract will bring me to my 7th year in the league and once it ends I will have to make a decision whether to retire or to play for one more final season. R: Have you thought about that yet? Retirement? G: To be honest I have not. I still have a while to go and I will decide once this contract runs out. There will be a lot of choices at that point...do I resign with the Wolves for a final season if they want me? Do I test Free Agency for the first time in my career? Or do I retire? At this moment I just don't know R: Can you speak a little about last seasons playoffs and the frustration with losing to Seattle? I even heard something about a destroyed locker room? G: Well it was very frustrating losing to Seattle again, we really thought we could beat them. Losing 2-1 at the end of the game just made me emotional and I took it out on the visitors locker room. While I do regret doing that, it was just the emotions of a very hard fought game. R: What are your predictions for the Wolves this season? G: We are definitely geared up to finish first in the division again and I believe management has addressed most issues that should help us win another cup this season. R: Has that always been the ultimate goal for you? Winning more cups? G: Definitely! That is why I play in this league, I took a hometown discount on this contract because I know the Wolves are setup long term to always compete for the cup. I have one cup but as a backup, I want to win one as the starter and that will always be my goal. R: What are your thoughts on some of the trades and F/A signings for the Wolves? G: It's sad to see some of the players you played with since I joined the Wolves get traded but all these moves have made our team better. We needed to improve our defense and management have accomplished that with the trade for Tzuyu and the free agent signing of Low. R: How has your relationship been with the new backup Spyro? G: I think it has been great, I have been in his shoes as a backup and I never really had a mentor as Kingfisher just kept to himself. For me though, I have reached out to Spyro and have been helping him get settled in and letting him know what to expect. I think it's great that he is here and will provide me with some rest for the playoffs. R: Long term do you think the Wolves can keep both goalies? G: That is up to the management to decide, I know Spyro will be a great starting goalie in a season or two and it would be fun to roll out a 1A/1B goalie system but I am not sure if cap wise that will work out. R: That's all the time we have for today, Thank You Greg G: Anytime!

Last night the Vancouver Wolves and Greg Eagles have announced that he has signed a new long term contract. The contract is rumored to be a 3 year extension that will take Eagles to Season 73 which would be his 7th year in the league. The contract also included a NTC in S71. Salary was not disclosed but it is rumored that a nice pay bump was achieved but that Eagles also took a slight hometown discount so that the Wolves can remain competitive. Fans and management were delighted that the Wolves #1 goalie has committed to the team for the foreseeable future. Greg Eagles posted his best ever stats last season and this season he was entering the final year of his contract. Rumors were swirling that the Wolves might not have had the cap space to re-sign Eagles but both parties managed to make it work. The Wolves now has a starter for the foreseeable future and a mentor for the up and coming prospect Spyro. While Eagles achieves what he wanted in the off-season and that was certainty of staying long term in Vancouver

1. What trade did we make this off season that you liked? Tzuyu trade was the one I liked the most, needed a great SB defenseman. 5. What do you think the standings are going to look at for the NA division? Vancouver will end up first once again and the rest doesn't really matter 6. Do you have any stat goals for this upcoming season? Going to keep on working to lower my GAA, Raise the save % and hoping for 10+ shut outs 8. Who should be the captain of the Wolves this upcoming season? HHH or Freeman, both are great leaders in the locker room and both are point leaders on the ice 9. Who will the Wolves leading scorer be? I believe it will be HHH followed closely by Freeman 10. How do you think @Spyro will do in his first season as backup in the big leagues? Spyro had a great season in the VHLM and hopefully he can bring that consistency into the big leagues. I think he will put up some great numbers for his first backup season.

Greg Eagles, the starting goalie for the Vancouver Wolves, will once again be entering a contract year in the upcoming S70 season. Just like last season, Eagles is not guaranteed a future in Vancouver after this season. Eagles has been with Vancouver 3 seasons so far and has improved every season he has played with the team. His first season during the cup winning run Eagles played as a backup and went 6-7-3 with a .902 save % and 2.85 GAA. In his second season and his first full year as a starter Eagles went 31-26-9 with a .902 save % and a 2.84 GAA with one shutout. In this last season, Eagles took a significant jump and went 44-19-1 with a .916 save %, 2.3 GAA and 6 shutouts. Most would think with the improvement each year that he would be a lock for an extension but with the emergence of Wolves goalie prospect Spyro, it is yet to be seen what management decide to do. Eagles will be commanding big $ and there just may not be enough cap space to keep both of these goalies. “ @Spyro is great and I am excited to have him as a backup for the upcoming season. His great to have in the locker room and has had an amazing year in the minors but I also know in a season or two he will definitely be a contender for a starting role in the VHL so we have to see what management has planned for the both of us. I also don’t want to sound like a broken record from last year but I think everyone knows that I want to finish my career in Vancouver, will that happen? I guess right now it is too early to say “ Eagles said “ Just like last season, I will only discuss contract options in the off-season as I don’t want to have those issues distract me during the actual season. I took a cheaper one year extension for the upcoming season to help the team out with cap issues but as I enter the middle of my career I think I have to think about trying to earn as much as I can to help me out in the future when depreciation sets in” Eagles for his first 3 seasons has always taken team friendly deals in the 2 contracts that he has signed as he always wanted to help the team and his main goal was to win multiple cups. While he is looking for a significant raise, he would be happy to take a slight hometown discount on a long term deal if management can show that they will use those savings to keep a contending team. As of yet no negotiations have happened between Eagles and the Wolves Management. Eagles mentioned that even in his final contract year that he has not been looking at other options as he believes a deal will eventually get done. Our writers looked at potential other teams that may have Eagles on their radar if Vancouver does not get a deal done. When doing our research the following teams may be looking for new starting goalies as their current goalies are retiring or close to retiring with no backup as of now ready to assume the starting role. Calgary Toronto Helsinki Riga When we asked Eagles about these possible destinations he had the following to say “ It’s great being mentioned but I think these are all rumours, I have not spoken to any of these teams and won’t speak to any teams unless I know I won’t be here in Vancouver. My main goal is to get a deal done here and retire here” Said Eagles “ The Wolves know that I want to be here and I am sure they will get the deal done. At this point in my career I just don’t want to take another short-term deal and have this uncertainty every year “

After the game 6 loss to Seattle, it is rumored that Greg Eagles took his frustrations out in the Bears visiting teams locker room. While not confirmed, we are learning that an unnamed Wolves player is to pay Seattle $50,000 due to damages. We have received exclusive pictures of the damage The Wolves management was unavailable for comment. From what we have heard is that Eagles was not happy with the way game 6 went and how the team played overall and went berserk in the locker room. This is his first major outburst in 3 years with the Wolves but shows how much he wanted to win that game. We managed to speak with Eagles a few days after the incident. " Yes it was me, I was just emotional after the game, we played a hell of a game, put 40+ shots up on the board and still managed to lose " Eagles said " This has been the 2nd year in a row where we all as a team knew we should have been in the finals but luck wasn't with us. The emotions just boiled over and I took it out on the locker room. I apologize to the Bears and hopefully they can quickly get the repairs done"

1. How are you feeling right now? Disappointed, we should have won the series 2. What do you think we could have done better? Not to sure, we had issues on all ends of the ice throughout the whole series 3. What do you think was our downfall? For the whole series it was just issues on both ends of the ice but in game 6, I think it was definitely offense. 40+ shots and only 1 goal did hurt us in the final game 4. What should we do to fix that issue in the future? I think we need to find a defensive dman, we are pretty stacked offensively but we need someone to shut down the opposing players 5. Do you think we did something wrong or just the sims just hated us this season? I think it was the sims just not going our way. If you really look closely our team was very similar in skill to Seattle. The series could have gone either way but the sim favored Seattle. 6. What is one good thing about Seattle? They had great goaltending from Rayz to help them clinch the series

With Seattle’s Game 4 win, the series is now down to a best-of-three, with two of the final three games in Vancouver. That includes a decided Game 7, if necessary. The Seattle Bears pulled even with the Vancouver Wolves in their second-round playoff series Wednesday night in a close 3-2 game in game 4. Vancouver knew they needed to take control of the series in game 5. Historically, when a series is tied 2-2, it usually works out pretty well for whichever team wins Game 5. Of all the best-of-seven series that have been played in every major sport, the Game 5 winner has gone on to win the series approximately 70 percent of the time. While we have not done the research into VHL game 5 winners, we can be pretty sure these stats are very similar. Game 5 played out last night and the Wolves dropped game 5 in another close 3-2 loss. The Wolves players were lost for words after the game as now, the top seeded VHL team, is on the brink of elimination. “ I know the media likes to throw around stats about game 5 winners when the series goes 2-2. We hear it but I don’t think that will affect us” Said Greg Eagles “ We are very capable of winning 2 back to back games and we will take it one game at a time. If we win tonight we get to go back to Vancouver and try to win in front of our fans. We’re motivated and we won’t be going down easily” In order for the Wolves to win the offense will have to kickstart into another gear. One of the top offenses in the league has been struggling against a very good Seattle team and great play from Rayz Funk. Eagles knows he also has to play better for his team to bounce back and win the series “ I know I have been playing OK but that is not good enough for the playoffs. In the playoffs you have to play great “ Eagles Said “ I have let in a few soft goals and I wish I could take them back but I just have to concentrate on the next game. I need to play like I did in Game 2 and 3 for the last 2 games. Eagles is having the best playoffs of his career sitting at a .906 save percentage (5th in the playoffs) and a 2.24 GAA (which is 2nd in the playoffs) and also has the 3rd most shots against. “ I don’t care about those stats to be honest, all I care about is the wins. If we don’t win the next 2 games then who cares if im 2nd in GAA “ Eagles continued “ I am here to try and help my team win some more cups. Without winning a cup, these individual stats are useless” Game 6 will be played later tonight as the Wolves will look to avoid being eliminated from the playoffs.

The Vancouver Wolves are in a tough second round playoff battle with the Seattle Bears. The series is tied 2-2 and all games (but the 2nd game where Wolves won 2-0) have all been won by only 1 goal. Two games were won in OT as Seattle won game 1 4-3 and the Wolves won Game 3 in double OT by a score of 2-1 We spoke to Greg Eagles to get his thought on this tight series. " Seattle is a good team, lots of talent and they are giving us a run for our money" He said "going forward I need to play like I did in game 2 and 3, where I was first star, if we want to win this series" The Wolves will play game 5 tonight and will be hoping to take the series lead. Wolves will have to rely heavily on Eagles to get through this series and he is ready to perform.

1. Another playoff round another victory thoughts on the first round? A lot closer then I expected but a win is a win 2. How do you feel about the second round this season? Seattle will be tough but we have the depth to get past them. Will most likely go 7 games. 3. What would you do if anything to change your player skills next season? I just need to keep working on my core stats and I believe next season will be when I start playing like an elite level goalie 4. If we do go far this postseason what will be the first thing you do once its all over? Go on vacation, it has been a long season and I expect a long postseason. Will need a break to recharge for next season 5. What kind of legacy do you want to leave with the wolves organisation? I want to be the Wolves best ever goalie and also someone that helped the organisation win some trophies 6. What plans do you have for new years? WIl you be ready for the second round with those plans? Just staying in as we have an important game 4 vs Seattle the next day!

Excited for everyone, it's all a team effort and no one player could win awards without the help of others. As long as Wolves win awards it will be exciting Hard to say but I think we will win most of the awards fo maybe....nobody? I think I did well, I improved in every stat line and looking to get better for next season I think we will go on to win our 2nd cup in 3 seasons I think for us to go far HHH will have to produce, so it would have to be on his back We have to make sure we show up every game. If we don't show up for all the games it could be a very short season

A little late in the announcement since this happened earlier in the year but Greg Eagles is now the Wolves leader for goalies in Wins, Save %, GAA and shutouts. Eagles currently has 76 wins, .907 save %, 2.64 GAA and 8 career shutouts with the Wolves. The closest any other Wolves goalie is Roger Sterling with 36 career wins as a Wolf and Ismond Kingfisher who sits at 34 career wins with the Wolves. " I think it's a great accomplishment for me, I have only been here 3 short seasons and already setting Wolves records" Said Eagles " I hope to finish my career here in Vancouver so I know these numbers will keep on getting better" Eagles has been improving every year he has been with the Wolves and this season Eagles is hoping for his 2nd Cup. The Wolves are the current favorites to win it all and should achieve this with no problem if they keep playing the way they have over the 2nd half of the season.
