Losing in Game 7 of the Season 68 playoffs to Calgary will forever be a painful memory for the Vancouver Wolves, and goaltender Greg Eagles still hasn't stopped thinking about it. Everyone was expecting the Wolves to wrap up the series in game 6 but that did not happen. “I don’t think you ever get over that, i’m still getting flashbacks," Eagles said earlier today during the team’s locker clean-out day "But you know, you got to realize it’s only one game, and it is what it is. You have to come back stronger next season, you can’t sit here and dwell on it, you have to pick yourself up and focus on the next season. Dwelling on it won’t change the outcome but preparing and training for next season can change the outcome if it happens again" Eagles played very well in his first ever playoffs as the teams starter, posting a .929 save percentage, a 2.56 goals against average over 5 games, 2 first-star awards and a shutout. Eagles was unable to play the first 2 games of the series because the backup goalie was being forced to play due to league rules. Unfortunately for Eagles and the Wolves, Game 7 against the Wranglers was not one of his better performances of the playoffs. Eagles allowed 5 goals on 44 shots as the Wranglers finally beat the Wolves. This has been the 3rd time in a row that this series went to 7 games and the first time the Wranglers won. One challenge that Eagles and the rest of the Wolves will deal with this off-season is a shorter period of recovery time due to the game 7 and national team commitments to most of the players. “I think the mental aspect is the biggest thing, especially if it’s a disappointing loss like that," Eagles said. "You have to just kind of unwind and try to forget about hockey as much as you can during the off-season” Eagles Continued ”But then again, you only have a short period of time until the next season starts, so you have to plan some time for your body to recover but also get in some training time. But I think mentally, it’s just such a grind, hockey season, you know you play so many regular season games plus another bunch during the playoffs if you make it, so mentally it’s very draining. And the fresher mentally you can be, the better off you are, I think.” The Wolves did not do the best job keeping Eagles fresh last season for the playoffs. With a revolving door of backups last season and due to paperwork errors because of all the backups caused the league to initiate a punishment for the Wolves. The punishment was put into effect because the Wolves did not start their backup goalie the minimum of 8 games required. This cost the Wolves by forcing them to play their backup for the first 2 games of the playoffs as well as not having Eagles as fresh as he could be heading into the playoffs. The Wolves will need to employ a new strategy during the upcoming season in making sure the backup plays the games they should. This will allow Eagles to be prepared and more rested for a long playoff run.

1. How are you feeling? Feeling pretty good overall, it was a close series and unfortunately things didn't go our way in game 7 but I know this team is hungry for more success. I have no worried about our compete level heading into the future 2. What do you think went right? After a few trades our lines finally started working well, some of the position changes really helped out as well. We played well 3. What do you think went wrong? I think playing our backup for the first 2 games (even though we won 1) might have played a part into losing but it happens. We don't know what would of happened if the backup did not play, we could have lost the first 2. 5. What do you think we need to do this offseason? Not too much, maybe pick up a Defensive dman. We have plenty of offensive power but some more help on the defensive side would help 6. What do we need to try and do in the draft? Try and find a late round gem, also maybe pickup a goalie so that we have an active backup instead of a bot. 7. We are just now getting in our prime as a team... what do you think will push us over the edge? As long as everyone keeps training and earning that TPE then we will be solid next season. We have an active group of players that are eager for another cup

Today, Greg Eagles, was cleaning out his locker as his team was eliminated from the playoffs. We spoke to him about his off-season plans " I don't think there will be much of an off-season for me, as soon as im done cleaning out my locker im heading out to train " Said Eagles " Hired some new goaltending coaches for the off-season, hoping to improve my game and head into next season even stronger" Eagles had a pretty good playoffs, earning first star back to back in game 4 and 5 but it was not enough as the Wolves lost in 7 games. " Yeah it sucks, I thought we had them after game 5 but we just fell apart in the last 2 games" Eagles continued " I think we were just tired, it was a long, grueling series and it didn't help that we had to use our backup for the first 2 games. But it is what it is and we will bounce back next season, all the guys will be training hard"

Valeri Morozov scored 2 goals as he helped lead Team Asia to a 3-1 victory over the USA in the bronze medal game in the world junior hockey bronze-medal game. Asia never let go of the lead and beat USA for the 3rd time in this tournament. "I'm proud to keep this streak going for Asian hockey," Greg said. “This is our 3rd bronze medal in a row and it just shows that Asia has an up and coming hockey culture. At the beginning of this tournament no one gave us a shot at the medal but we worked hard, our coaching team came up with great tactics and we can be very proud of our accomplishments here” We spoke to some of the players during the celebration and this is what they had to say "Our players were completely exhausted last night after losing to Canada, physically and emotionally, but we battled to the very end," Anthony Hawk said. "We knew a bronze medal is still a medal to be proud of." Hawk led all players in points with 14 at the end of the round robin. Yesterday Asia lost 5-1 in the semi-finals to lose all hope of playing for the gold but they rebounded well with little rest for the Bronze game. Asian fans and media, even after being skeptical that a European GM was in charge, celebrated the win and had the team plastered all over the front pages of the state controlled media. “Obviously we were upset after the game yesterday vs Canada we thought we had a shot but it just wasn’t meant to be, but we had to regroup because we wanted to go home with a medal,” said Okada. “The big thing for us was to keep our heads up, be positive on the bench and throughout the game and just play our best for the bronze.” Asia played hard and their hard work paid off as they dominated the game vs USA from start to finish. “Our guys knew that today was all about Asian pride. We had the privilege of wearing the united Asian flag on the front, it’s the last time these guys are going to be together as a team. We’ve grown such a tremendous amount and we’ve become close,” said GM Greg “Ultimately, we finished strong and made sure we left the right impression. They gave everything that they had today and I’m proud of them. This will also inspire future Asian children to take up hockey and maybe this will make the sport more popular. We have played very well in the past 3 tournaments and we have shown that you don’t need the best players to win” Goaltender Clayton Park made 34 saves on his way to another win in what will most likely be his last ever WJC game and was named first star for his performance. Valeri Morozov finished as 2nd star and US player Jaxon Walker finished in 3rd. It is yet to be seen if GM Greg will return to GM Asia next season or if he will return to soccer management. Many Asian fans will be hoping he can return to bring the Asian team back to glory. In the gold medal game, Team Europe downed Canada 5-2 in a big upset to claim the gold medal.

Team Asia who have been underdogs in the World Junior Championship are playing for the bronze medal. Many didn't expect them to get into the medal rounds but hard work from the players is giving the nation a chance. Asia will play Team USA who Asia have beat twice in the preliminary rounds. Both by 1 goal. " I think we have a good chance at a medal, that was our goal from day one. We have already beat them twice so I have faith our team will come up big and snag a medal for Asia " GM Greg said at early morning practice " Our lines have been clicking and we have been getting some great production from our guys, it will be a great game!" Asia had an opportunity to advance to the Gold Medal game but unfortunately lost 5-1 to the tournament favorites, Team Canada. Team Asia could not match the skill on the Canadian team " We tried our best but we were just overpowered, they have amazing players across all 4 lines. I am proud of my guys though, they have played well all tournament" Greg Continued as he wrapped up practice.

Is Greg Eagles an imposter? Is that even his real name? Many around the league are wondering who the Vancouver goalie is and if that is even his real name or if it was stolen. Back in the old VHL days somewhere around S7 there was another goalie names Greg Eagles who had very similar details to the current Wolves goalie. They both started in the league at age 16, both from Wroclaw,Poland and both played goalie. We spoke to the Current Greg Eagles to see what the deal is "It could have been a long lost cousin or relative, looking back at my family tree we had a lot of Grzegorz, or Greg as you say it in english, in the family. For some reason that name was popular and by my count there has been 14 different Greg Eagles in our family. I guess only myself and the one from S7 played hockey while all the others went into soccer" Said Greg " There really is nothing to it, just a long running history of Greg's in the family, you media guys always try to make a big story out of nothing"

Today we look back at one of the most successful Team Asia WJC teams that have played in the tournament and that would be the Team Asia of S62. While the Season 63 team also attained a silver medal, the S62 team had more wins in the round robin and was more of an offensive powerhouse. In this article we will also look back at some of the all time leaders in the WJC for team Asia. These were the golden generation of Asian hockey with S62 being the first time Team Asia won a medal and S63 being one of the most exciting finals in recent WJC history. Asia has not been back to the finals since that time and will be looking to get back into the finals. While we will only focus on the S62 team in this article, we had to mention the S63 team as they were also really great. The S62 roster was composed of some great players that will forever live in Asian hockey history and some who have become VHL greats. The forward group consisted of: Sergei Kovalev Vyacheslav Smirnov Ryuu Crimson Nikita Filpachyev Zhang Shou Tian Kisshan Shan Hyuk-Kyu Kim Lars Tommernes Evgeni Golovoy The Defense Core Maxim Kovalchuk Tzuyu Dylan Nguyen Gregor Rasputinov And the goalie: Alexander Pepper On paper the team looked pretty good but many thought this team did not have the proper depth to make a run to the finals. Those who thought that were extremely wrong. This team went undefeated into the finals and scored the most goals of the tournament with 37. The eventual winners, Canada, finished second in goals with 34. The final was one to remember and probably one of the more exciting finals in recent WJC History. The final was an offensive game with both teams abandoning any more of defense. The final ended 6-5 for Canada due to 4 goals being scored in the first period. The shots ended up being 47-46 in favour of Canada. Sergei Kovalev led the Asian team with 2 goals and 3 points. In my opinion if Team Asia would have played a little more defensively, they would have achieved Gold, they had the right players and chemistry but unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be. During the next WJC, Asia would once again face Team Canada but they would go down 2-1 in Overtime, once again missing their first gold. As we wrap up this article we also look at the top 3 players to have played for Team Asia in the WJC. The top player so far for Asia has been Defenseman Dylan Nguyen who played 3 seasons on the WJC squad. Between Season 62-64 Nguyen has put up 8 goals, 36 assists for a total of 44 points. He is by far the top Asian player and will almost be impossible to catch due to most players only eligible to play for one season. Following up in second is RW Kisshan Shan who also played 3 seasons. He also played during the S62-64 WJC and put up 16 goals, 18 assists and 34 points. We also can’t leave out Alexander Pepper who played on both silver winning teams in S62 and S63. He was the workhorse for Team Asia and is also currently the leader in Minutes played in the WJC with 1228. Without him Asia would not stood a chance. We now look forward to this years WJC to see if Team Asia can finally bring home the elusive gold and if any players from this years crop will end up as top players for Team Asia
