RJMW reacted to Grape in Major Injury Alert
The Ottawa Lynx Medical Center has regretfully informed the media of a major injury to a star player. Alex Carlson, The Lynx’s 7th round pick, 69th overall, has suffered a severe Achilles injury during practice, and will be sidelined for the entire season. In a discussion with the front office, a mutual decision has been made to cut Carlson and allow him to retire. With this being the second major Achilles injury this player has suffered, Carlson decided it would be best to hang up the skates for now and pursue their true passion, whatever that may be. Carlson is currently on-route to Houston, in which he stated that he “felt immense comfort being in that city”. He discussed how when he first came over to play in the VHLM with a waiver signing in Houston, the people and the team were extremely welcoming to him, and that it felt like a “second home”. What the future holds for Alex Carlson, we do not know, but the Ottawa Lynx wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.

thank you so much for the kind review! i really appreciate it and no, it’s not crazy at all to ask for that! i’m not sure if you wanna see your own player in this style but if you do, you can leave a comment on my request thread ( since it’ll be easy for me to keep track of everything ) and i can get that done for you

Review time:
Pretty straightforward review since I have pretty much nothing but good things to say about this graphic! Ooh ooh ooh it's magic! The VHL logo swap was done seemlessly, and I am in love with the background + effects, so much flavour in this. Overall it feels simple and seemless, but also so complex at the same time... I just really like this. The only thing I can knock on it is that the font is a little hard to read, especially I think that's "river" (the players first name?) But even then the font matches amazingly with the rest of the graphic.
9.5/10 I would hire you personally
P.S. would I be crazy to ask to see this style but rotated 90 degrees, with a full player on the graphic, with the name on the bottom? Like a hockey card style 😅

Review!!
Ok, so I really like this graphic! The jersey swap was done really well and I really like the background as a whole. I love the font that was used, and I especially like how it stands out from the rest of the graphic while also blending in quite nicely (I think this makes sense😅). The background effect works really well with these colours and the big team logo. My only knock is that I'm not a huge fan of how far the white blur bleeds downwards and when I was looking at it on my small phone screen it looked a little cluttered with the JST logo, but this isn't the case now that I can see it on a larger screen.
Overall very well done! 9/10!

RJMW got a reaction from Advantage in VHL Trade Wars: Edition 2 (Season 60)
Review!!
First off, I don't think I'm familiar with any of the players that were discussed so I won't comment on who won each trade, but... I love this concept! I think you broke down each trade and why whichever team won really well, especially for someone like me who doesn't know the players or the history. Being able to catch a quick glimpse of the history of the VHL packaged in an interesting concept is super cool. Maybe in future versions of these, I will be able to find some hidden biases you have (joking... for now), but until then I enjoyed this piece.
Well written and entertaining - 10/10 would read again.

RJMW reacted to Beketov in Forgive my Sentimentality
Hello everyone,
Not gonna bother with a members tag on this, if you see it then great, you will be rewarded for that. If you don’t then…. Well why am I writing this because if you don’t see it how can you read this part?
Anyway, today marks 5717 days (that’s 15 years, 7 months, and 26 days if you’re curious) since the VHL opened its doors. What a random number you might say, why does that matter? Well if I do the math, and I have, I was born 5717 days before the start of the VHL. Given that I joined on day one and have been here ever since that means today marks the official day that I have been in the VHL just as long as I was outside of it. Is that a stupid thing to celebrate? Probably but that won’t stop me; so please let me indulge in a bit of sentimentality for a moment.
When the VHL started I had not yet completed high school, I had never had a girlfriend, hell I had never kissed a girl. I was a lonely nerd turning to the internet to find something to do; and I found it. The VHL was not my first sim league, wasn’t even the first one I joined ran by the people who ran it, but it was the first that felt different and felt like it had a good chance of surviving which so few at that point had done. I found a community here. I cannot honestly say that everything went perfectly or that my start in the VHL was without fault; I very nearly left for good within 2 months, but I stayed. I have now not only finished high school but university and going on 10 years working post-schooling. I have now not only had a steady relationship but a wife and two children, a life. All the while the VHL has been there, constantly evolving with the times sure but present. Over 5 years ago I took up the mantel of commissioner. I did it not because I thought I was necessarily the best person for the job but because I thought the league needed something, it was in trouble and I didn’t want to see it fail. I like to think that in these 5 years of growth I have at least stalled that failure.
5717 days likely means nothing to any of you, just as that paragraph likely means nothing to any of you, but it means something to me. This league, this place, this community has been a standard in my life for longer than most anything else. I’m not going anywhere right now, that’s not what this is, but I did want to mark the occasion because this league does mean a lot to me.
So if you’ve made it this far feel free to take 5 uncapped TPE for your troubles, on me. I’m not sure the insane total I’ve had over the years (probably over 10k by now) so 5 for everyone that I bored with this story should suffice as a thank you for being my weird extended internet family.

RJMW reacted to Ozzy Batty in Otis Boudreaux Jr - Another Boudreaux Takes the Ice
And so the Journey Begins...
When I decided to pick up a pair of skates instead of football boots everyone in my school in Meath made fun of me. Who plays hockey in the middle of Ireland? Especially not some bloke who trips over every blade of grass they come across. But it is what I wanted to do. I guess you could say it was in my blood.
I had followed the career of Otis Boudreaux with such excitement. To think, a member of my family was getting their chance! He had went to America and played for the Houston Bulls and had even been drafted to play in the majors. But then something happened. He just disappeared as quickly as he had appeared. We all talked about him almost every Sunday after our dinner. When he first went to America Dad mentioned him every day. He would stay up late to watch the games, even though he would never admit he didnt understand it. He said it was similar to football so it wasnt too hard to understand. But one night, I acted like I couldnt sleep and watched the game with Dad. Wow, it was so exciting! Up and down the ice, taking the shots at the goal, nothing but non-stop action. The next Sunday as Dad was talking about Otis I told him I wanted to play hockey, he nodded and got another scoop of potatoes. I knew this was his way of saying that he was okay with it, but it didnt think it would come to much. I knew I had to prove him wrong.
So I started training. There were no ice rinks near me so it was just a pair of skates. I was back and forth along the pavement, trying to keep my balance and handle the stick. But it didnt feel natural. I had to fix that. So practice, practice, practice. That is what I did. I found a local team that played street hockey. It wasnt on ice, but at least it was hockey. I never missed a game, or a practice for that matter. I was getting better and I even got the occasional nod of approval at Sunday lunch.
That is when the first telephone call came. At the time, I wasnt sure what it was about. I just heard Dad talking in that fast-paced hard tone he always uses and the call was quickly over. All I knew was I heard my name alot. Then there were more and more calls. I heard Dad saying my name but I didnt know why. One day though, it all made sense.
It is funny who watches you when you are not even aware. I guess that could be creepy at times, but in this case it was a good thing. Coaches had been calling Dad about me, wanting me to play for them. They wanted to train me how to play on ice. But as I said, there were no ice rinks near us so I wasnt sure how that would even happen. I came in from practice and Mom and Dad were there with two men. I remembered one from family get-togethers, he was the father of Otis. I found out later what had happened to Otis and his hockey career. He was notified that his Mom was sick and he went home to help take care of her. She had passed away and after that he had lost his fire for any sport. But there was another man there that I didnt recognize. He was introduced as the coach of a hockey team in Galway, where Otis's dad lived.
He wanted me to come and play hockey for him. He felt I had real talent but it was raw (whatever that meant) and I needed to be on the ice (which terrified me because I had never been on ice skates before) and he felt I could be a star. That shocked me enough. But then the other piece of it, I was asked if I would change my name to Otis Boudreaux Jr if I made it out of my local team. I was speechless. Mom and Dad agreed. They felt it was appropriate to honor Otis this way. No one had told him though so I wasnt sure how he would feel. But I agreed, I mean, I was only 12 at the time.
So here it is, almost 4 years later. I learned how to skate, and score. I lived in Galway with my uncle (that is what I decided to call him) and became a local favorite. All the time known as Otis Boudreaux Jr. I finally got the call I was waiting for though, my chance.
I was signed to play for the Warriors in the Junior Showcase Tournament. It is going to be my chance to show what I can do and hopefully start my journey in the VHL...just like my namesake did...
