Random Older Members Who Are No Longer Here
Tagger replied to Fire Tortorella's topic in Archived Media Spots
Yeah I remember Jamie asking me if I wanted to GM in the GOMHL but I turned it down at the time just cause I wasn't ready to GM in a hockey league yet. I think she'd probably be a pretty big fan of the way TPE/Welfare works now though given I seem to remember she was one of the members who wasn't happy when we got rid of the welfare boost in the player store (can't properly remember but I think that specific change was the one that led to her inactivity) -
Yeah it looks like the player search bar has been down for the last four days or so, I sent in a report so hopefully it gets fixed soon! Also because you wanted tags for members under the best defenseman, this guy I believe is the one current active of the three. Best defendersS56 Keaton Louth 72 38 81 119 @Beaviss

@GustavMattias Also just dug up an old client screenshot from back when our sim engine would be the only one available that continues to suggest that’s the case (note the lack of line strategies) If you changed absolutely everything to 5 phys, there’s a chance it could be that the overall strategies (the ones you set for 2 goals up, 1 goal up, etc, Id guess they’re under coach in that screenshot) do actually have an impact whereas the individual line ones (which I referred to in the podcast) don’t.

I mean that’s what the dude himself says in his own manual, I don’t see any reason to doubt him. Can’t really base things off of one game with a 47 TPE goalie.

Hell of a career lad!

While I have mostly been doing short podcasts while driving since I've returned to the VHL, I will be sitting down and recording a pretty lengthy podcast with DC Dragons GM and Season 63 first overall pick @Enorama on Sunday afternoon to be posted on Monday. We've got a lot of topics that we've already got ready to discuss but if you have any questions you'd like to ask either of us, feel free to send them our way!

As some may have noticed, I have a somewhat strange habit of using professional athletes from other sports as my players in the VHL. I’ve used former New England Patriots quarterback Rohan Davey, a clone of former Wisconsin Badgers running back Ron Dayne and several iterations of the heavy hitting Edwin Encarnacion of the New York Yankees. However, I am not the only person in the VHL to have done this as history shows that there have been a few other instances of a player in the VHL finding fame elsewhere before hitting the ice. Here’s a breakdown of some of those players (note that I started at Season 18 so that I could track their performances on previous indexes): Kobe Bryant – Season 18 – 27th Overall After a terrific basketball career, it appears Bryant wasn’t satisfied with cementing his legacy in just one sport. Entering the Season 18 VHL Draft, Bryant was drafted 27th Overall by the New York Americans (although he was the 26th player selected as Davos Dynamo passed on their pick) but he would never wind up playing for that team, instead spending four seasons in the VHLM. While his first two seasons saw him as very much a depth player, he wound up recording over a point per game in both of his final two seasons in the VHLM as a member of the Bern Royals. Lady Gaga – Season 21 – 13th Overall One would think that there would be nothing to suggest that Lady Gaga would go on to have a successful career in the VHLM, but when she found herself caught in a bad romance with minor league hockey, she actually turned out to be rather a good fit for the league. She wound up playing eight seasons in the VHLM and, while she would never top her impressive 119 point season from her first post-draft VHLM season, she would still go on to have several seasons where she recorded over a point per game. Kevin Hart – Season 28 – 7th Overall In the Season 28 VHL Draft, the Riga Reign were left with an easy decision; pick Jim Gow, the first generation player of Flyersfan (a member who would wind up becoming league commissioner) or former comedian and professional small man Kevin Hart. Like I say, it was a no brainer; the Reign obviously went with Hart. Hart is the most successful player that we’ve covered to this point; he wound up having three seasons in the VHLM where he scored over 100 points, bringing his best in his last season as a hockey player where he recorded 147 points for the Oslo Storm in Season 32. He even made an appearance in the VHL in Season 31 as a member of the Quebec City Meute in their first season of operation. However, this season made it more than clear that Hart couldn’t hack it with the pros, recording less than half a point per game. In comparison, Jim Gow played six seasons in the VHL, this pick wound up being a miss for the Reign. An honourable mention also goes to Emma Watson, who was taken in the third round of the Season 34 VHL Draft by the Davos Dynamo

Just to save some time, the two things I talk about are: That you can submit up to 2 items in the VHL.com section (Articles/Player Card/Radio). One thing I forgot to make clear was that you can't do two of the same (e.g. you can't do two VHL.com articles, but you can do a VHL.com Article and a player card in the same week) Some of the features when you submit lines as a GM don't work in our sim.

Being one of the league’s commissioners, Quik is a very prominent member in the VHL, but you probably wouldn’t have guessed that just looking at the positions his players were drafted. In fact, you have to go all the way back to Season 12 to find the last time he was taken in the first round of a VHL Draft, a draft that took place over 10 real years ago! That player, Matt Bailey, actually wound up being the first overall selection and is currently enshrined in the Hall of Fame. Incredibly after that point, his next five draftable players (Kronos Bailey was a GM player, therefore he skipped the draft) would be taken with the first two picks of the second round. I think the player I’d like to learn more about from that same Season 12 Draft though is Harvey Singh. The defenseman was taken with the second to last pick in the entire draft, yet wound up with the joint-most continental cups out of anyone in that draft class, talk about an unexpected contribution!

While a lot will be talked of Matt Thompson passing 400 goals for his career and then making his way to fourth in all-time goals scored, there is one particular stat from the season that took him to that mark that I find really insane. Matt Thompson currently has a shooting percentage of 20.08% through 58 games. Shooting percentage isn’t an often looked at stat though so if you’re struggling to figure out why this is significant, I’ll tell you now. In our trackable archives (S20 onwards), the highest recorded shooting percentage for a player who was in the top 50 in points was 16.02%, which was recorded by Lars Berger all the way back in the first trackable archive of Season 20. We’ve had people bust out high numbers of goals in the past, but they have namely been through a team setup which allows star players to have an obscenely large number of shots. Thompson leading the league in scoring despite only being 25th in shots is a real anomaly.

Name: Edwin THE Encarnacion Age: 50? Position: Defenseman Nation of Birth: Dominican Republic After being recovered from the now-destroyed secret destination where he had been experimented upon, Edwin THE Encarnacion set about preparing himself to enter the VHLM en route to the VHL. To shake off the ring rust, Encarnacion made his services available to any team that needed him, but demand for Encarnacion was extremely low as it was unclear what level of play he was capable of in his current form. Luckily for Encarnacion, he was eventually able to find a team, albeit a very lowly ranked one, as he joined the Distillery District Bartenders, who were a member of the Toronto Amateur Hockey League. Encarnacion stepped in as their lead defenseman and, luckily for the Bartenders, Encarnacion was clearly ready for hockey at a much higher level than this one. Racking up 49 goals and 25 assists in the 20 game season, Encarnacion helped the Distillery District Bartenders to their first ever Toronto Amateur Hockey League title and his hat-trick in the Final against the Cabbagetown Aubergines saw him add the Finals Most Valuable Player trophy to his Most Valuable Player and Top Goal Scorer trophies he secured during the regular season. After the season concluded, there was now significant demand for Edwin THE Encarnacion and there was the temptation to move straight up from the Toronto Amateur Hockey League into the VHLM. However, Encarnacion decided to get one more season of hockey under his belt before making the move to the big leagues. While he had originally set himself up to play more hockey in North America (As all of the current VHLM teams are situated there), out of the blue he received an offer he couldn’t refuse…a $71,342,431 offer to play in the Ukranian Professional Hockey League for the Donetsk Liberation, who were being managed by former VHL player Aackckqz Ky. Why Encarnacion was paid such a ludicrous fee for just one season of hockey is unknown (some say it was generated randomly by Ky), but regardless, Encarnacion couldn’t turn down such money and headed over there to hopefully repeat similar success to what he had in Canada over in Europe. While Encarnacion would never have been able to provide value for money because of the ridiculous salary he was offered, he did prove himself to be one of, if not the, best players in the league. Finishing the 50 game season with 65 goals and 63 assists, Encarnacion won all of the same trophies that he had won in Canada in the Ukraine along with securing the cup for Ky’s Liberation.

Unlinking GM Players and Removing Project Player 2
Tagger replied to Beketov's topic in Announcements
I do like this change a lot, although I am interested in the answer to CIA's query as that's the first thing that came to my mind as well. Also, is there a point at which a GM has to claim their player by? E.g. Do they have to do that upon creation or (providing they have a first) are they free to claim their player at whatever point prior to the draft? -
Looking at their site, I prefer the way EFL has presented it: Links to the weekly point tasks still directly accessible from the main page but career PT's given it's own section. So our's would basically be as it was, but Career PT's where Rookie Profile and Biog were.

Accepted, thanks to all that offered!

OK, pretty sure every GM has been online since I created my player so I'll do the randomizer now.

Oh, to mention something I brought up in a previous podcast, I'm totally putting all of my offers into Random.org to determine who I sign with.

Rookie Profiles were 8 and Biography were 10, so it was 18 TPE, not 15. Given that the bio in the new system can't be done till your eighth season, the difference is basically 2 TPE for the majority of your career.

Got another 4K with Mei today, at least this time I got the POTG ?

The pairing that I was hoping we'd be similar to in production was the Wolf-Thomassen combo (since that was my peak activity era) so I'm very happy that we managed to top that together! Feels like our partnership was kinda like the Sturridge(Me)-Suarez(You) partnership for Liverpool back in the day. Both put up big numbers together but even in that period, you were still very much the better performer and you continued after leaving whereas I became injury prone/inactive and barely seen for the remainder of his career.

Was thinking this the other day while recording my upcoming podcast series, I'd like to see them make a return as well for certain. Also it's pretty funny in retrospect seeing New York be the team mentioning not taking retired numbers given that I think my jersey was the third #10 retired ?! But it's a cool touch by Esso for sure.
