  3. Hello! Thank you to Moon and JB for running the World Cup up until this point. Due to the short turnaround to this season's iteration, I will be stepping in as the interim commissioner to get the tournament rolling. I will likely put up a formal hiring thread again after this tournament, but if anyone is interested in stepping in and being a fellow commissioner with the chance to retain the role moving forward, please DM me! Can take up to 2 folks immediately. For GMs, we generally send out invitations to current M/E/VHL GMS. However due to my limited availability, I've decided to open up an application for GMs with a priority being on current GMs, then AGMs, and then non-management. Since this tournament is generally a higher skill and stakes tournament, candidates without any STHS experience will likely not be prioritized highly since I cannot assist as often. Feel free to apply below or DM me interest - and please specify which role(s) you are applying for!

  7. I know it's the desired outcome, just think it's still usable as a league right now. And me saying that about making 9 seasons the norm wasn't the league stance, just my personal opinion. Pretty sure the league stance is still "8 seasons is the standard, 9 is for those who want the extra challenge," which I don't really disagree with. I don't think that just because 9 seasons is possible means that it should become the new norm.
  8. He said "entirely unfightable" so just wanted to make sure the Jagr option was known. Realistically I still think that playing a 9th season is just to have an extra shot at winning a cup. I don't think there's any bonus award value in that rookie season since you'll almost certainly be lower TPA than folks who stay down in the E from the prior class. You'll definitely peak over 1100 TPA which is good enough to be in award contention as long as your team situation/surroundings are ideal and beneficial. So I don't think there's really that much tradeoff in terms of performance, it's really just your peak TPA (eg. 1150 peak vs 1250 peak). This go around I'm a goalie so I obviously won't play 9 seasons, I don't think there's any case to be made that I'll agree with that a max earning goalie *should* go directly to the VHL in his draft season. You won't be a starter unless you're on a completely garbage team, in which case you're ruining your career stats. But I figure this post is mostly for skaters. Bottom line is right that you're not significantly raising a bid at the HoF by playing 9 seasons unless your rookie season gets lucky. That being said I still don't really think that staying down in the E is a bad thing. Some people will be self-motivated to play an extra VHL season like I was to have an extra shot at a cup (rip me), or to hope they get lucky and start their career hot. It's all luck at the end of the day. It's just a mostly safer path to stick to the expected career progression line of 1 season in the E before going up and enjoying a normal 8 season VHL career. The E also isn't a development league so I don't see the logic in saying that it's breaking the league flow or whatever. Real issue just seems to be the continued lack of interest and engagement in the E which still doesn't have a solid identity, which in turn makes these arguments pop up that just want to avoid the E entirely. Imo raising the "standard" to 9 by mitigating that last 9th season depreciation seems like a mistake since at our current recruitment pace, I can't see the E still around in 5-10 seasons (generous projection). Just because a 9th season option was added because of the addition of the E doesn't mean everyone who max earns should always be taking that option. At the end of the day from a personal standpoint as a max earner, I don't really care if the 9th season is easy or not. My decisions will usually just be based on my players and the situations where I get drafted, or how much preparation I want to put in. I had Nico planned pretty well to manage 9 seasons, while Syko won't be as thought out as a goalie under the old attributes and %'s. This player would have gone through the E no matter what to get the new experience of the E that I hadn't gotten with Nico due to skipping.

  12. https://spotify.link/GjwbZGZTVDb I don't often write Media Spots anymore (although most of my VHL.coms inevitably are long enough to count for it) and I also rarely write purely about my own players, often preferring to instead write about Moscow, the league as a whole or BoG leaks. However with this offseason being potentially the most important in my player's career, it seems like a great time to break my usual habits and trends. Olober Syko enjoyed a superb debut season in the M, playing behind one of the best overall teams in the league in San Diego. Despite starting the season at a measly sub-100 TPE, Syko capped out by the end of the season and led the league in all significant goaltender stat categories, a feat sure to earn some hardware this offseason during award season. While San Diego failed to make the finals, it was still a strong season that Syko is pleased with - despite constant comparisons to his predecessor Clark who had a phenomenal run in the VHLM on his own merits. A disappointing end result, but it'd be a lie to say Syko is disappointed with the season as a whole. Looking forward, there are two drafts on the horizon - the VHL's on Thursday, October 19th (although it'll be around 5 AM on the 20th where Syko is currently vacationing) and the VHLE's on a date yet to be determined. Despite being a top prospect and one likely able to go straight to the VHL based on his merits, Syko will likely choose to stay down to develop further before making his rookie debut. What team on the E that'll be on however, is to be seen. So far, no VHLE team has reached out to discuss the draft with Syko or his team, and there seems to be limited spots available with the amount of young goalies saturating the E. It's certainly a possibility that Syko ends up sitting out the full season - instead choosing to train on his own in preparation for the VHL. While it's not the intent for next season, it's not an option Syko will shy away from - and would choose to be undrafted if so. For the most anticipated VHL draft in many seasons, there's even more question marks for Syko. No team has reached out yet, but very few teams are looking for goalies and are in a position to take the netminder. The immediate goalie hungry teams appear to be DC, Vancouver and Moscow. Of the three however, only Moscow owns at least a single first rounder. Rumors out of Moscow seem to indicate that Syko is not a priority pick with the team's two lottery picks given the availability of fellow S91 prospects Red Panda and Dalkr Vidarsson. With much uncertainty and even some teams Syko would decline to play for due to fit and outlook - along with no completed scouting interviews - it'll be an interesting few days until the draft, especially with Syko's availability limited by timezones and his vacation. Anything could happen on draft night, it'll be up to the hockey gods to determine if the any of the desired outcomes play out.

  18. It wasn't a 3 game sim situation. Funnily enough, on theme week day or TDL day, Bek posted the backup start count and tagged all GM's. Calgary was at 8/8. Later that week in a sim, the bot was played against Moscow but the starter was played against LA. So no, it wasn't a situation where the GM had a bot roll over by a game or two when the goalies changed based on the opponent.
  19. Will you take Nico Pearce's corpse

  22. Getting deeper into the playoffs always means it's time for the VHL offseason rumblings to begin. We've already had multiple high profile players, Yaroslav Bogatyrev @Bojovnik, The Frenchman @OrbitingDeath and Fart Vandelay @Gustav all enter the rumor mill with thoughts of leaving their current teams this offseason and testing the FA waters. This is one of the first times in recent VHL memory where even a single pending FA, let alone three, is publicly declaring an intent to go into FA before the offseason formally begins and teams and players dive into negotiations. There's always a lot of frustration each season - only 3 teams out of 32 in the entire VHL ecosystem will win coveted hardware, and only a handful of players in each league will receive individual recognition. Is this the big offseason that thoroughly shakes up the VHL scene? Closer to home, there are rumblings of management and leadership changes in Moscow. After the Menace's first season rebuilding after nearly 10 straight playoff appearances and nearly all veteran players traded or considered pending free agents, there will certainly be a shakeup in team leadership - and even team management. Moscow announced today that exceptional AGM of 5 seasons, @Brandon, will be stepping down from his role and transitioning into an informal advisory role. Brandon was a critical part of navigating a new era of Moscow after the stars of the late 70's and early 80's had gone into retirement. Moscow also formally named @Steve as the new AGM of the Menace, transitioning from an advisory role into the vacant AGM position. With GM Euron Leonidas taking a surprise vacation right before the offseason is scheduled to begin, many of the offseason operations and actions will be picked up by Steve, who has already been involved in various back-room discussions. A sim league veteran and a user who is no stranger to max earning and developing exceptional players, Steve will be heavily relied upon for future Moscow success.
