The purpose of the rule, at least the way I see it, is to not give teams with only one goalie a distinct advantage over teams with 2. Let's say I have a 1000 TPE starter and a 400 TPE backup. Obviously, I would want to play the 1000 TPE goalie way more games because that gives my team a better chance to win, but the user with the 400 TPE goalie ends up getting completely shafted by not getting a single game, likely leading to a negative experience and eventually leave the league. Removal of the rule would discourage teams from acquiring a backup because then nobody ends up getting shafted and the team gets to rock 72 games with their starter, leading to a fair amount of active goalies sitting in free agency. Having the rule allows for active backups to actually get signed and play, whilst at the same time stopping one goalie teams from having an advantage over the two goalie teams.

Dating back to the very start of the league this has always been the reason for it’s existence as far as I’m aware.

Previously someone who created after the trade deadline only had the default amount of TPE or carry over TPE. The thing is that makes being around and earning ahead of time completely pointless. Congrats, you put in the max amount of work and nailed that cap every single week and your reward is to have exactly the same amount of TPE as someone who just got here. Missed half a week at some point? Well you get even less than the person who just joined.

I think 6 per week is a good middle ground. It offers something so they aren’t just left completely in the dust but it’s still not completely demoralizing to those who have actually been earning.  It’s the same amount someone would get if they just take welfare and PF.

I haven’t finished the series, got distracted halfway through book 3, but I will say the action definitely picks up A LOT after the first 3/4 of book 1. It has much more “under the mountain” energy from this point which is good.
