Expansion is not on the table as far as I’m concerned. I would argue even 16 teams is barely sustainable as is. This isn’t the covid era that needed expansion every 2 seasons; recruitment has slowed (logically, we knew it would) and some teams are already barely icing a full team as is. Cap discussion is cap discussion. We’ll look at it but it’s tough because GM’s will always want more, why wouldn’t they? They put a strong team together and they want to keep it that way but teams age and age is expensive. It’s not the league’s job to make sure your dynasty is safe. Hell one of the last times I saw this argument half the teams making it and spent around 1/4 of their cap on bonuses. I’m probably remembering the exact figures wrong but you get my point; let alone the fact that rebuilding teams remain empty with loads of cap space (or they fill up on bonuses and then complain themselves). So yeah, we’ll look at it. I expect I’ll have my annual chat with @Spartan about how the league cap looks (As I have with the financiers that came before him) but expansion is not the solution. Contraction is hell, I’ve been there and don’t intend to be there again, so expansion isn’t gonna be on the table until it’s clear that it can be stable.

Ultimately you touched on but skated around both points that I assume will keep him out: Playoffs and Competition. I’ll admit I knew my rookie year was awful but didn’t realize it messed with things THAT much. What I did fully recognize from the start is that Holik was Swiss cheese in the playoffs despite being on strong teams. This is, I think, what held him back in those massively important first 5 ballots where most players who will go in are inducted. After that point the playoff argument obviously still stood but the second one cropped up; there is a prevailing ideology (and Vic is especially fond of it) that being say third or fourth best goalie in a generation should not get you in the HoF even if your numbers are far superior to others from different generations that make it in. It’s a valid enough point since generations have a huge effect especially on goalie stats but it doesn’t make it sting less when the likes of Stopko go in (first ballot I believe) with fewer wins, a worse GAA, the same S%, and fewer shutouts. So what was the difference: Stopko’s generation of goalies sucked and he was by far the best one. Playoffs keeping Holik out has always been totally valid in my book, he couldn’t stop a beach ball in the post season. The competition one irks me a bit more because it basically means if you play at a time with strong competition you’ll get passed over for worse players who got lucky on when they created. Vic and I have long argued over this. Fun read either way, I expect Papa could join Holik on the “dies on the ballot” list soon but we’ll see. Possible he doesn’t even make it on. My goalies have this great tendency of having no consistency whatsoever.

Problem being throwing too much uncapped at one specific thing that not everyone can do because unfair, that’s why it was low. I mean it also counted as your PT for the week at least so consider the hours saved on that as well. Just add it to my reasons to not bring it back though.

It wasn’t remotely the work load that was the issue, it didn’t take us much time. It’s simply that there was very few options by the end, a lot of manipulation with the vote, and in general a solid amount of complaining that eventually just made it not worth the hassle. Some of that was of course made worse by the MetaWolves winning 3 straight. I’m not saying it can never come back but it certainly outlived it’s welcome the last time as far as I’m concerned.

That is correct. It used to be that depreciation would hit in season 6-8 post draft regardless but we found there were people spending 3-4 extra seasons down sometimes so they’d end up basically getting depreciated immediately which didn’t seem fair so now it’s based on VHL seasons exclusively.

Depreciation is based on the number of seasons you have played at the VHL level, not just your draft season. So because you spent S80 and S81 in the VHLE you are currently entering your 6th VHL season. This means you were depreciated at that level. Still Kicking is, of course, for 7th season depreciation which is why it was denied. You are able to use it next season.

I do wonder when these numbers get pulled because it always seems like I’m a week behind. For instance Jardy is in fact at 184 as listed but I’m listed at 171 and am in fact at 185. It really doesn’t affect anything, it’s just curious that my update Monday morning always seems to be missing.

I promise it will happen. I got dragged out of town for a couple of days last minute so that threw some wrenches into planning things.

Out of morbid curiosity, does this trend continue if you go back to the seasons I was posting the poll, or does it already? I don’t recall when Vic was tasked with the job. I don’t mean it that he has done anything wrong or that I didn’t, simply that I know I never aimed to have any implicit bias in the matter (I’m sure Vic doesn’t either, I just can’t speak for him) so I’d be curious to see if that’s how it played out.
