Welcome to the VHL, rainyday0_0! We're happy to have you. You should have received a PM with some more detailed information, but to get started quickly you will want to head over to the "How to Create a Player" topic. That topic will offer you detailed information about how to use the VHL Portal to create your player and get you started. We also highly recommend joining the VHL Discord where there is a channel dedicated to helping new members with any questions that they may have about the league or improving their player. Once your player is made, you will be placed in a pool of players eligible for the next draft. You may also choose a VHLM team to play for this season if the season is ongoing. While you wait to get your first games in please feel free to ask any questions you have here or in your create-a-player thread. We're happy to have you in the community and we hope you stick around!

Just a cold it seems, he’ll be fine. This should be fixed now.
-
Yes I meant to do that this morning but then kiddo was sick so it slipped my mind. I’ll get it fixed. Looks like TPE properly reset, it’s just the draft class that needs adjusting so that’s easy.

I long ago said we should have split the record books; at the very least to pre and post-portal if not more. Having records dating back to S1 is cool but it means we're kinda locked into what "normal" or "exceptional" mean.

Apparently we need to talk about the trade deadline
Beketov replied to twists's topic in VHL.com Articles
Well yes, it can obviously be claimed, but talking about the theme specifically doesn’t help any. We got rid of that theme week requirement ages ago. -

You are aware that talking about the deadline in a .com does nothing right? -

I cannot say with 100% certainty but I don't believe it's possible. Coding wise a goalie would have to be able to take a shot in order for that to happen and I don't believe there's any part of the goalie decision making that can result in a shot. Honestly as I understand it goalies don't even have as much decision making as the skaters which is already very limited. They are more or less just pawns who's attributes affect where they are in relation to the puck.

There’s a reason I did it as the CoDCast and was gaming while I answered stuff. It gave me a distraction for the awkward silence bits while I was thinking and also removed the need to edit it. I probably still SHOULD have edited it but I didn’t really need to. Not for everyone but it worked for me. As for hating hearing your own voice, that never gets solved. I’ve never seen someone who enjoys listening to themselves in any form.

Suggestion change the Wilcard playoff format
Beketov replied to Lemorse7's topic in Suggestions and Complaints
You can set up custom playoffs and it basically asks you how you want them assigned for each round; you can swap teams up, down, and between conferences. You have simmed the M, you should know this haha -

It’s 12. Earlier it mistaken read 2+6+6; that has been corrected now.
-
The OP has been corrected, it’s meant to be 12. Was supposed to be 2, 4, and 6; he just copied the wrong part.
-
This is what we get for pointing out errors
-
@Josh can’t count. 2 + 6 + 6 = 14

Look I don’t make the rules, if you guys decide to get it on then that is your choice. Mind you we’ll have to see if a game from 2008 will even run on an ARC GPU since they are known for being iffy with older titles. Worst case I’ll buy Planet Zoo instead and use that but I would rather avoid spending the extra money if I can.

We literally had a "Jesus Christ" in season 1. Some people like joke names, it has always been a thing in the VHL and I imagine will continue to be. Any actually offensive names are changed but just something silly that isn't harming anyone is fine.

Basically knowing "I can't say X but I can say Y which heavily implies X so I'm just going to carefully tread the line of what's appropriate and what isn't without stepping over into the territory of Y"

Happy New Years @Members! As we move toward another week in the life of the VHL we wanted to announce a bit of a shake up in how moderation has been handed. Obviously there have always been highs and lows with it and this past year was no exception but we saw a bit of drama near the end (as I'm sure many of you are aware) and the @Commissioner team decided to wanted to investigate things a bit and make a few changes to how things are handled. The start of that is that @frescoelmo has been let go from his position as head moderator. He is remaining on the mod team and we have nothing against him, we just feel like his talents have not aligned well with the goals of the moderation team that we are striving for. @samx has accepted the head position in his place. No other staffing changes to the mod team will take place at this time. Outside of staffing though Sam has written up some new policies to hopefully keep everything running smoothly, both for the mods and the members. Her main goals and objectives are as follows: Better documentation: Improved documentation policies so that we can better track on going issues. This will allow us to make better judgement calls when it comes to handing out punishments. Earlier intervention: Implementation of policies that make it so we intervene earlier during ongoing issues. That way we can hopefully help prevent the issue causing a larger, more dramatic scene. "Toe the liners": Implementation of new policy regarding actions of people who "toe the line" of what is allowed in the league and what isn't in order to allow for earlier intervention of these individuals before larger action feels necessary. Communication: Improved policy of how communication should happen between people who report issues, the people reported, and other parties that may be affected by a punishment (such as M commissioners). A common complaint is lack of communication. With new policy we aim to make sure that the people who need to be "in the know" about what is going on with a situation are properly informed. This also includes making sure that people who submit a form as a complaint know that we have seen it and are working on establishing what needs to follow. (If they did not submit anonymously). This also includes better communication between mods. There has been confusion at times between mods as to why certain actions were taken and we end up on different pages. The new policies aim to make sure that mods are all on the same page and have the proper information about why certain actions were taken. Correcting Bad Habits: Making sure we are following old policies correctly. Many policies have not changed however we got away from following policies and taking shortcuts. The aim is to be more on top of making sure we are following these new policies as well as being better about continuing old policies that were already in place. This includes better documentation of former infractions and punishments so people are not labelled as "repeat offenders" (for example) without evidence. The mods all have a more comprehensive version of these goals but those are the main outline. I feel like the last one makes an excellent point that there isn't a lot outwardly changing in the expectations the mods have of the community but more so a focus on making sure old policies are held up and followed, they were implemented for a reason. In general this shouldn't have a huge effect on most members but we wanted to make sure we were clear about what was going on so everyone could be on the same page. I appreciate you reading this far, feel free to take 2 uncapped for your troubles if you managed to read this far but don't mention it anywhere; I want to see if people have actually read everything without just searching for those 3 letters we love so much. @Commissioner @Moderator
