Blazzer reacted to Spartan in Some More VHLM Rule Changes (ft. the VHLE)
    Hello, it's me again!

Earlier this offseason, @Gustav  and I announced a rule change that redefined an "active" player in the VHLM. At the time, we had a few other rule changes being discussed that needed further deliberation and fleshing out. We're now ready to announce two more changes this offseason:

Regulating VHLM Player Retirement and Subsequent Re-Creation

Recently, the VHLM has seen a few instances of a VHLM player retiring and then subsequently recreating with a new player. The VHLM currently does not have any rules that cover this area, but we have encountered situations that do not follow our expected competitive integrity for the VHLM. We are adding the following rules to the rulebook:

    Capping VHLM Player Career Lengths

For as long as I've been in the VHL, I can remember a career VHLM player existing at some point or the other. There's various valid reasons that a user could prefer to stay in the VHLM for longer than the typical 1-3 season period - some of which we're very proud of. Great team cultures, friendly environments, and user comfort are all reasons that users tend to hang out or revisit their old VHLM stomping grounds.

However, it's been apparent over time that VHLM "lifers" pose their own issues to the league. Certain teams often receive 5+ seasons out of a single player, showing a lack of competitive integrity (yes, still important in a development league to prevent abuse of rules). In addition, high TPE lifers are taking valuable minutes away from the targeted demographic of the VHLM - the new users and players. In order to prevent abuse of the lack of rules surrounding these areas, the VHLM is taking a step alongside the VHLE to make a shift to VHLM and VHLE eligibility.

Currently, a VHLM player will remain in the VHLM until they cross 200 TPE at an offseason cutoff (or spend over 200 TPA after an offseason cutoff). We are hereby instituting a 4 post-VHL Draft season maximum - any active player at or under 200 TPE after their 4th post-VHL Draft season will then be moved up to the VHLE where they will follow the appropriate VHLE procedures for Free Agency. 4 post-draft seasons were chosen as they would typically signify the completion of the standard 3 season rights period after being drafted with 1 or 2 buffer FA seasons for any edge cases. This should allow the majority of the VHLM population to graduate naturally without any issues.

These changes will go into effect immediately - any VHLM player in the S85 class or older will be moved to the VHLE.

    Hi all,

Due to an extremely busy summer work schedule that would prevent him from properly fulfilling the duties of his role, @badcolethetitan is stepping down from his position as Mexico City GM. He has done an excellent job in this position, and we're very sad to see him go. We hope that he returns to the M as a GM in the future and wish him the best of luck with his VHL career.

We're extremely appreciative of the strong candidate pool we received for the Miami and Saskatoon openings, and have decided to select someone directly from that pool due to the time sensitivity of this position with the VHLM draft on Friday. We're excited to welcome a former GM back to the ranks:

Looking forward to the draft this Friday and the upcoming season!

    1) We're approaching the VHLM Draft. What are you most looking forward to come the draft?
    2) The Aces have hired a new AGM, what do you think of the hire?
    3) Have you been following the WJC or JST? If so, what are your thoughts thus far?
    4) Following up on that, if you were to play in the WJC or JST for the first time (or again for players already involved,) what would you want to achieve in either of them?
    5) Juan Ceson is simply the best. What do you love most about our beloved captain?
    6) If you could be anything you ever wanted, what would it be? Hockey player? Astronaut? Juan Ceson?

Reply to all six questions for 2 capped TPE! Respond to each question with a full sentence otherwise updaters will probably deny your update!

    1. To players playing in the WJC for the first time, what are your thoughts? To players returning to Europe/WJC competition, what's it feel like to be back on the world stage?
    2. The rosters for the WJC have just been announced! Which team are you most looking forward to facing in the tournament?
    3. Which players that were selected are you most looking forward to playing with?
    4. What are you looking to gain most from participating in the WJC?
    5. Lemme hear your early predictions for Team Europe MVP?
    6. What are you doing personally in your day to day life to save the bees and why is it not enough?

Blazzer reacted to Spartan in VHLM Active Definition Adjustment
    Hello all,

Now that we're in the offseason, @Gustav  and I have a fairly minor VHLM rule change to announce. However, it does affect one of the core eligibility criterion of the VHLM, so it deserves a formal announcement.

Currently, the definition of an "active" player in the VHLM is as follows:
While we strive to give every member a quality VHLM experience, we've realized that a portion of this definition allows for behavior that we feel is counter to the purpose of the VHLM. The minors are meant to engage, retain and above all, develop players so that they are prepared for the VHLE and the VHL. Currently, posting on the forums counts towards activity - so a player can choose not to earn any TPE at all as long as they're somewhat around the forums.

This will be changing to the following:
Essentially, the change eliminates forum posts as "activity" in regards to remaining on a VHLM roster. We strongly encourage all VHLM players to never stop earning to stay down intentionally, so players must update to remain eligible to play. This will help nudge players to continue earning and updating, and closes a potential loophole.

I think one warning to bring up is the ability for that account to be abused or hacked? I know the likelihood of relatively low but I thought it was worth mentioning. Blazzer reacted to TheNeonShaman in Reviewing Pre-Season Breakout Candidates from Every Team
Here's a link to the predictions if you haven't read it yet:

Right before the season started I made predictions on breakout candidates for every single VHL team. Now I think it’s a perfect time to review! Also it’s worth noting that my definition of breaking out usually hovers around getting at least 50 points, though with some players in the previous article I made more specific predictions, so my judgment might be different depending on the player. Yes I do brag when I get a prediction right.

    Calgary Wranglers
    Vincent Laroche-Gagnier @vincentlg2007 (S86)

VLG put up 21 goals and 43 points total in 72 games. He didn’t manage to break 55 points like I expected, even with the two elite centers. I wouldn’t call it a bad season or a failure, but it’s just a little lower than I expected. Still plenty of time for VLG to breakout.

    Chicago Phoenix
    Alexander Minion @UnknownMinion (S85)

What a season for Minion. Finally put into a starting role, they got almost 40 wins and boasted a sparkling 0.923 save percentage. Minion backstopped the Phoenix to the 4th best record in the league. Even in Chicago’s in and out of the playoffs, Minion had a 0.939 save percentage, proving the Phoenix should be confident in goaltending for seasons to come.

    DC Dragons
    Lucas Grey @emidas (S86)

With a 21 point season, it would be hard to say that Grey broke out. However, the Dragons were also last in the league, so some of the lack of production might have been an across the team epidemic.

    HC Davos Dynamo
    Lachlan Summers @kirbithan (S86)

I should just predict goalies at this point. Summers had a stellar season (just as expected, not to pat myself on the back). Just like Minion, Summers had nearly 40 wins, but put up the 3rd best save percentage in the league to go with it (0.932). She had a good playoff performance too, not nearly as good but still with a 0.920 save percentage and 7 wins before Davos bowed out.

    Helsinki Titans
    Daryl Dixon @Ricer13 (S86)

I’m super proud of this one. I didn’t just say Dixon would breakout, I said he would be over a point per game, and I was right. Dixon was a bright spot on an otherwise gray season for the Titans. I would not be surprised to see him have another fantastic year next year.

    London United
    Leonard Triller @Triller (S86)

I would say it was a decent year. Calling it a breakout might stretch it a little, however a 47 point rookie season is pretty good. I would be surprised if Triller didn’t start to make a big impact in London going forward, but this season wasn’t as big as I expected with the star power down the middle that London has.

    Los Angeles Stars
    Sunglasses Joyo @JetsGoalie101 (S85)

I was really hoping that I could hit on this one, but unfortunately Sunglasses did not hit the 55 point mark I predicted. However, with a 51 point season I think it’s safe to say Joyo definitely contributed quite a bit to the depth of the Stars, and helped to make them a better team. It’s hard to call it a breakout, as Joyo had 38 points last year, so I was looking for just a little more. A solid season nonetheless.

    Malmo Nighthawks
    Yaroslav Trunov @qripll (S87)

Trunov did not breakout, scoring 38 points on a rebuilding Malmo team. I may have been premature in thinking that more ice time would help, and Trunov was even outscored by the Nighthawks 1st round pick from the season 88 draft in defenseman Jacob Stone. However there’s no reason to panic on the young winger, and I’m sure Trunov will find his footing sooner rather than later.

    Moscow Menace
    Left Alone @okochastar (S86)

Left Alone had a nice solid season. 43 points is actually a great jump up from last season in Seattle, where they had 14 points. Playing pretty far down the depth chart, one could only hope that Alone might get some more opportunities next season and showcase some more of the obvious talent. Is it a breakout? I would say it could be considered one. 43 points isn’t as high as some players that didn’t have breakout seasons, but Alone increased their season point total by nearly 30, which is very impressive and a much bigger increase than other players showed.

    New York Americans
    Babay Shrimp @Blazzer (S85)

With one of the higher point totals of the players on this list, Shrimp manages to still not hit my expectation of 60. I feel a little bad saying Shrimp didn’t break out though, as 57 is very close and a good point total. 16 points better than her previous best season. A very solid year for Shrimp.

    Prague Phantoms
    Nikolas Kauppi @Tetricide (S85)

With no players left to breakout on the Phantoms. I gave Kauppi the expectations of exceeding his rookie year total of 54 and getting close to point per game. Unfortunately he did the opposite, and the sophomore slump took Kauppi down to 39 points. A rough year for the winger.

    Riga Reign
    Skor McFleury @Alex (S87)

McFleury had a great year. 55 points and not to mention 23 goals as a defenseman. I would say he’s made a name for himself as a very talented defenseman in this league. I said Skor would take a big step towards being a point per game, and I would say while not the biggest step, it’s still big enough to classify as breaking out. Especially as a defenseman.

    Seattle Bears
    Yaroslav Bogatyrev @Bojovnik (S86)

It feels so good to hit on some of my more ambitious predictions. In Seattle I could have gone with talented rookie Randy Bobandy, and I would have been right there too as Bobandy had a very nice 60 point sophomore year. However I decided to shoot my shot and predict that Bogatyrev would not only breakout, but put up 70+ points this year. With a very nice 77 point season, I would say that matches the prediction. What a great season.

    Toronto Legion
    Jimi Jaks @kelvi (87)

Jaks had a decent rookie year. I wouldn’t really classify it as breaking out, but a 43 point rookie season is pretty good. I might be putting him back on next seasons list.

    Vancouver Wolves
    Wann Kerr @VattghernCZ (S86)

Kerr along with FISTED ANALLY BY A CIRCUS MONKEY Analfist and Oreo McFleury, who I also mentioned, did not break out. Kerr actually had the most points between them, with 43. Swing and a miss.

    Warsaw Predators
    Tim Riggins @Jayhawk (S87)

In hindsight it might have been wishful thinking for Riggins to break out, just barely eligible for the VHL out of the VHLE, Riggins probably wasn’t ready for the big leagues this year, only putting up 8 points. Better luck next year!

    Review
So out of the 16 predictions I made, 6 came true. There were also a few that were close but didn’t seem to me like breakouts, or I gave specific thresholds of points that didn’t get hit. Lots of young talent in the VHL, not everyone can be a star. But for the 6 players who did breakout, there are some new stars in the making ready to make some waves.

    What is up, VHLM!

It's generally a seasonal occurrence that we hire new people, and this season is no exception. We first learned that @nurx planned to leave us earlier this season--we respect his decision and we'd like to thank him, as one of our first hires, for the time that he spent making Miami a great place to play hockey.

In addition, we have done our best to establish contact over the past few weeks with @Bulduray_1, who's been a GM longer than we've been commissioners. It's something that I hope we never have to do, but we've reached the unfortunate conclusion that Saskatoon will require a new GM moving forward. We'd also like to thank Bulduray for his work with the Wild and wish him all the best both on and off the Internet.

So, with two leaving, we've got to announce two arriving!

If you're an older member who cares about the VHLM, first of all, thank you! There aren't enough of you in our fine community.

Second of all, if you were active anywhere between S67 and S72, you may remember an offseason tournament held between the VHLM commissioners at the time--@Banackock and @diamond_ace--called the Commissioners Cup. And, as Bana said in a status update from 2021 that I don't know how to link to, "Greens haven't had the drive to get er done since."

Well, good news, VHLM: @Spartan  and I are here to change that. Introducing...the revival of the Commissioners Cup, starting this offseason! The basic rules are as follows:

The Commissioners Cup is a best-of-three series featuring the best of the VHLM, facing off against each other on two teams, one drafted by each VHLM Commissioner. The two teams, TEAM GUSTAV and team spartan, will consist of 12 forwards, 6 defensemen, and 2 goalers each. Any player who spent the last season in the VHLM is eligible for selection. That's it! Winners receive bragging rights, and 40 of you get to see your player in a few sims this offseason.

Spartan and I will hold our draft live on stream, Wednesday night at 8:00 Eastern. Hope to see you there!

If you have a weak stomach you may want to stop reading this because it only gets worse.  Its about a recent discovery found on several online sites and it made me hurl.  Someone has taken things to a new low.  You might ask, “How low?” Well, let me tell you.  It’s so low an army ant would lose in a limbo dance.

Juan Ceson, @dylanjj37, has become victim to imitation sales of merchandise.  The official Juan Ceson logo is being replaced by a false logo, similar to the original trademark design but is lacking the quality that a true Juan Ceson product guarantees.  Even the Juan Ceson zoo animals are in danger of being disguised as fake.  As an example, the Juan Ceson zebra, white with black stripes, has been rented out to unsuspecting birthday goers as a maroon with tan stripes.

This leads me to the next question.  Who is responsible for this?  Some have questioned @Blazzer, but she has a good alibi.  Others have suspected @Viper, but he is loyal to Juan Ceson.  All leads; however, have pointed to someone who favors giving Las Vegas trouble and has the means and the motive.  It’s @badcolethetitan.  Blame Cole!

Blazzer reacted to McLovin in What's Next for Las Vegas?
The long and difficult season the Las Vegas Aces have had is finally over. After being bounced by Mexico City in the first round in a four game sweep, the Aces find themselves on the golf course once more, looking for ways to improve and return to the promised land of the Founder's Cup Final. In the seasons since the Aces last appearance in the Finals, the Aces have only won one game in the playoffs, that being in S87. With this in mind, let's take a dive into the Aces and what they could potentially do to elevate themselves to contender status, and bring Sin City another Founder's Cup.

The most obvious start would be goaltending. It was the Aces Achilles' heel this entire season, and cost them big time once it came to playoff time. While goal tender Linden Moore cannot be blamed for everything that went wrong this season, you have to start somewhere unfortunately. Being thrown into a starting position in his rookie year, Moore struggled to find his game and couldn't catch a break. Despite doing all that he could to keep the team in games, Moore put up a 14-24-5 record in the regular season, with a 0.888% save percentage, with a 3.65 goals against to go along with it. With the Aces being swept in the first round, it didn't get much better for him. With 3 regulation losses and one in overtime, an 0.862 save percentage and a very rough 4.9 goals against average, it's safe to say that defensively he was not given much help. Obviously Moore is going to improve his game and will no doubt be a solid goaltender for the future, but sadly those numbers just can't match the level of the Aces opponents, who have had remarkable seasons posted by elite talent. With this in mind though, it's only fair that we take a look at the blueline in front of Linden Moore, and assess what could've been improved to help his situation.

Defensively it didn't get much better. As it stands, the Aces only have one defenseman signed as we start approaching the post season. Captain Juan Ceson put up a strong offensively minded season, notching 13 goals and 43 helpers to match. Despite putting up a -19 +/-, Ceson had his second best career year in terms of blocked shots, and a career high 291 hits in the regular season alone! With a strong cornerstone piece like him most likely remaining on the team until retirement, building a strong defensive core with him as the highlight of the blue line, you have a promising future in those regards. The issues arise, however, when you consider that a cornerstone like Ceson has been around for a while now, and only has a few seasons left in the tank. This will mark his 8th year of playing in Las Vegas, and one can only wonder if regression is going to damper an already struggling defense. With this in mind, drafting or signing free agent defenseman has to be a top priority of the Aces management, General Manager Blazzer and AGM Viper certainly have their work cut out for them. Onto a much higher note, we'll wrap the review of the season up with the offense and what the plan should be moving forward team-wise.

The Las Vegas Aces did not struggle offensively this season, and that should be something to lean on going into S89. With the likes of ShaunYoungca, Jeremia Barbaslov, and RJM nearing the end of their VHLM careers as they move onto Europe and the Pros, the need to either retain or replace the primary drivers of the offense is abundantly clear. Solid prospects have started making names for themselves with the team, with the likes of Jack Foster, Paul Cramer, Nose Nacho Montana and Maxim Anisimov hopefully either being resigned or drafted by the Aces in the upcoming draft. The future is bright for the Aces offense, but an additional piece or two will really solidify an already strong team hungry for championships once more. That being said, let's take a look at the off-season moves Blazzer and Viper can make to turn a fledging hopeful into a dominate contender.

First and foremost, improving the defense and getting additional pieces to assist Juan Ceson is a must. The man simply can't do it all by himself, and I sense Blazzer and Viper are going to be potentially moving pieces, whether it be players and/or picks to get help in that field will happen. That being said, I likely see one if not both of the Aces and Reapers first round picks they have currently being used to acquire players that will make immediate impacts on the team. Moving on from that, either signing a strong starting goalie in free agency, or drafting a prospect goalie to potentially backup a rejuvenated Linden Moore might be the play as well. Either which way you see it, an extra pair of pads to help Moore out is essential in my eyes, short and long term. Finally, I definitely expect the offense to be bolstered further in this offseason, with more winger support coming in to assist an already remarkably strong center core. The possible drafting or signing of playmaking minded wingers to sauce dishes to the snipers already on the team would enhance the offense tenfold, and would likely result in very high scoring games should that be the focus of management instead of defense. With players like Maxim Anisimov and Jeremia Barbaslov already filling those roles on the team, retaining them should be a must, and I'm not only saying that because I'm extremely biased. 😉

All-in-all, the Aces are a promising team to look forward to watching in the upcoming seasons. A swift and decisive offseason for them will likely propel them back into the elite of the league, and with the assets they currently posses, they have the potential to make some major splashes to chase that dream. Time will tell what ends up happening, but the future is bright in the Neon City.

Blazzer reacted to McLovin in Maxim Anisimov - Biography of Ukraine Wayne
    Early Years
Maxim Anisimov was born and raised in the small Ukrainian settlement of Zhurivka by his mother. Maxim never knew his father, but it was rumored by multiple sources in North America that his father was in fact Wayne Gretzky. Regardless whether these rumors were true or not, it meant little to young Maxim who struggled to help make ends meet in his family, where he either spent a large portion of his childhood working in factories, farms, or working at his towns local shops and various business schemes. Anything that could help keep the lights on, Maxim would find himself more times than not getting himself into.

As Maxim grew into his teenage years, the winters in the Kyiv Oblast were harder and longer than he remembered as a child. Despite this, Maxim took advantage of the cold, frozen lakes & rivers and decided to lace up the skates for the first time at the age of 13. He was a natural. It took Maxim no time at all to grab a stick from a shop selling old wooden hockey sticks and a ball from his old toybox at home and start playing the game he'd eventually fall in love with. Around this time, people in the settlement started to notice Maxim's skill as well, and it got him on the radar of a few youth teams in the region that were looking for players that could be game changers to their programs. Maxim, however, could not afford to join any of these programs as he was still barely able to contribute enough to help his mother keep a roof over both of their heads.

    Maxim's Moment
Now at the age of 17, Maxim was still playing on frozen lakes with his friends where he was truly refining the skill he'd be known for in the pros. His heads up play and ability to find open sticks to pass to made him quite the quarterback and playmaker for whichever team he got placed in when doing miniature fantasy drafts. Maxim always found himself being drafted 1st overall in them, of course, but he never let it go to his head. His upbringing made him humble to be appreciated, and he hoped one day he could make his family some money doing something he felt he truly excelled at.

He got his chance as word had gotten to Kyiv and the Ukrainian National Team President Gennadiy Zubko. He was amazed at Anisimov's playmaking ability, and was stunned that it took him so long to be discovered. Despite his financial problems plaguing opportunity in the past for Anisimov, Gennadiy Zubko offered to front all costs of moving him and his mother to Kyiv and allowing him to play in an actual arena. Maxim was honored, and after a very brief conversation with his mother, it was decided they'd immediately accepted Gennadiy's offer, and Maxim would join the U18 Ukrainian Men's National Team.

    International Play & VHLM
It was everything he could ever dream of. Lights, cameras, custom pads that weren't duct taped onto his body, carbon fiber instead of his old rundown wooden stick. It was truly all surreal to him. One would understandably assume that being immediately thrust onto the world stage would hamper Anisimov's game. If not for good, at least at first, right? Not for Maxim. His playmaking ability was on another level, one the Ukrainian hockey program frankly had never seen before. Ukraine isn't one of those places on Earth that produces a number of remarkable hockey players frequently, so Maxim's presence on the team was immediately felt, and he became an integral part of an otherwise fledging competitor on the world stage. Being on this level of play, and in this environment, it only elevated his status as one of eastern Europe's next up and coming potential superstars. This is when the nickname "Ukraine Wayne" was being floated around by the media, due to the rumors of his father potentially being Wayne Gretzky, which would explain Maxim's remarkable playmaking ability. Call it genetics, call it luck, call it what you will, whether he was related to the Great One or not, he had the ability to be a real competitor should one of the major International leagues like the VHL or it's subsidiaries in the VHLM or VHLE pick up his services.

As Maxim became more immersed into the hockey world, he realized that he had a long way to go before he was up to par with the likes of the Canadian and American super factories that were constantly pumping out incredible and generational talent. At the age of 18, Maxim had been doing his best to keep an otherwise deflated team afloat in international competition, and found he enjoyed being in the developmental program more than competing for medals, floating offers from Europe and North America to join real franchises and truly kickstart his career. That's when he was offered $1.5 million from the Las Vegas Aces to play the last few games of the S88 regular season in the VHLM. Maxim was dumbfounded. He never thought he'd see THAT much money in his entire life. He was grateful, and graciously accepted the offer. Flying himself and his mother out to Las Vegas, Nevada, the heat and desert atmosphere was a stark contrast to the frozen tundra of eastern Europe. With a new team and a new purpose, Maxim finally stepped onto the ice with his new team against the Mexico City Kings, and the story has been history ever since.

    Scouting Report
Maxim is a playmaker through and through. Hands made of silk and an ability to read the play before it develops, Anisimov is a powerplay specialist that thrives with a dedicated Sniper on his line. While his professional career at the moment of writing this biography is only two games old, he's one of the few S90 draft eligible prospect's who have already made immediate impacts in the professional scene. Should he maintain this progression and development of his game, scouts can see him becoming a top pick in the VHLE and VHL drafts, and an immediate impact player in any role he's thrown into.

It is now time for us to move on to the games. Some interesting storylines to watch as we go into these games are as follows.

    1. The top scorer of the league Tullemore Dew is looking to add more points to his belt in these unofficial games as he plays for the Eastern Conference.
    2. Mississauga looks to show their strength defensively as we expect the Eastern Conference to play the two Hounds D-men on the same pairing.
    3. The Western Conference showing it can score goals as well. The Western Conference has been struggling offensively in terms of scoring leaders as all of the Western Conference teams have been more team focused rather than star focused. This could lead to struggles in scoring and the Western Conference All-Stars are hoping to show the league that they are just as capable of scoring goals as their Eastern Conference competitions.
    4. Pope Francis shot-blocking. Pope Francis has a very comfortable lead in shot blocks, but Halifax also has more shot attempts against them than most teams in the league. That including the Pope plays more minutes than the average D-man leads to the possibility that he simply is getting in the way of shots at an average rate if he were playing for a team that was better defensively.

Without further delay, let's get right into the games!
