  5. Welcome everyone to the S92 Junior Showcase Tournament (Jacob's Version)(Sad Girl Version)(Recorded at Long Pond Studios)! We had some technical difficulties (our simmer left us), and as such I have taken up the noble task of rigging the sims for this tournament! Unsurprisingly, the team my player is on has snagged 1st place out of the gate! Figures! Our opening sim begins with a shutout, as the Rush get off to an early lead with the help of their powerplay! (Rush 3 - Brigade 0) https://vhlportal.com/vhlm/JS/92(2)/JST92-1.php Our second game is the first to go to extra time, with the Warriors winning in the shootout! (Royals 2 - Warriors 1) https://vhlportal.com/vhlm/JS/92(2)/JST92-4.php DBot6 ties it up late, but the Rush can't get it done in the shootout! (Steel 3 - Rush 2) https://vhlportal.com/vhlm/JS/92(2)/JST92-5.php Brigade surge to a 3 goal lead, and avoid squandering it to hold onto the win (Brigade 3 - Royals 2) https://vhlportal.com/vhlm/JS/92(2)/JST92-6.php Steel didn't have much to say here as they get shut out, only shooting 13 times. (Warriors 2 - Steel 0) https://vhlportal.com/vhlm/JS/92(2)/JST92-7.php A quiet second sandwiched between two busy periods has the Rush taking this one! (Rush 2 - Warriors 1) https://vhlportal.com/vhlm/JS/92(2)/JST92-16.php A goalie duel for the ages ends with a 3-save then 3-goal shootout! (Brigade 3 - Steel 1) https://vhlportal.com/vhlm/JS/92(2)/JST92-23.php I may not do this commentary every day, but figured I might pop some in to spice up the fact that we had to replay the first days! Another big sim tomorrow, and we should be all caught up! INDEX https://vhlportal.com/vhlm/JS/92(2)/index.php
  6. Welcome! Got a few GOHLS members kicking around here!
  7. You would think that I’d probably have a ton to write about this week, with my London United within one win of a potential second Continental Cup, but I really don’t have a ton to say on the subject. The work to get to this point was set up a long time ago, and we’re just seeing the residual effects now. The core of players that are leading the way for us have spent the last many months putting together their builds, grinding away at their TPE earnings and carving themselves a role here in the VHL and on the United. The work we did put in this season was securing exactly enough depth scoring and defensive responsibility to survive the onslaught of other teams. Working with Torbjorn, Marchand, Knievel, Braun and Maloish to work on getting their builds to an optimal point considering their TPA and contract gave us some excess value for every dollar spent. Torbjorn had a monster season, keeping up with our max contract forwards at half the cost, and almost none of the high-conversion minutes. Jeckler, Braun and Maloish rocked the +/- category, not necessarily getting in on the action themselves, but facilitating offensive pressure and keeping Teno from too much danger. The regular season was incredibly underwhelming, and I think we sunk into a morale pit early, and never dug ourselves out. Compare that to the post-season, where we got out of our first-round matchup with consecutive wins, snowballed through Malmo, and once again ended the EU Finals with consecutive wins. This is probably our second-last crack at this championship thing, with Molly the Cat in their finals games, and Jesse Teno facing the same fate next season. Not to mention the wealth of depth that we’ve acquired shortly afterwards. There isn’t much left to extend the window into S94, and I’ll be doing my best to give the next era of United hockey a head start on discovering their new faces. It’s a real testament to the work we’ve put in as a team to have core players stick around as long as they have, and that free agents want to come be a part of our process. It’s no VHLM locker room, but I’ve had a pleasure getting to spend the last many months with this group, and while I wouldn’t dare doubt Frostbeard’s ability to bring this thing back, I really do hope I can give them another opportunity to celebrate their success. I think it would mean a lot to them to be the first team to win multiple championships in the Hybrid Era, particularly after the long wait to be relevant. So yeah, I really don’t have much to say about the Playoffs at the moment, pretty well everything is out of my hands at this point, and into the hands of Simon (Praise be to Simon). I’ll be proud of the team and our work regardless of the result, but wouldn’t it be nice! Lots of hockey left to be played, and you can count on the United being ready to outwork whoever we face!
  8. Big Game 5 tonight! Any predictions?

  9. leaks? Did I miss this somewhere?
  10. The main reason we've never really approached injuries, is that it means people aren't playing in games. Fun management challenge, not fun to sit out for days on end because you blocked a shot wrong.
  11. What a flurry the last couple of weeks have been! I feel like it was just yesterday we were starting our campaign against Prague, and now we're holding on for dear life against a high-flying (Landon Wolanin-less) Helsinki Titans, figuring our who gets to meet up with the Dragons in the finals. My girlfriend and I are working out the final details for signing our first rental agreement, and then I head back home and catch up on the rest of life, including getting all my sim hockey stuff in order! I’ll be holding onto my TPE with Jillian Woods here for a while, and ideally applying it to 200 for the next VHLM season and banking my way to as close to 400 as possible for the beginning of S94. If I can’t stay down, I’ll make it work, but I’d love to get some time here with some of the first-gens that keep making their way to our doorstep. Chances are I won’t be able to make a return to San Diego, but I’m excited to see where I end up!
  12. Update: - Finished ACOTAR, it was fine, would read the 2nd one to give it a shot post lore-dump. - Read Throne of Glass, did prefer it, lulled a bit halfway through, but excited to read the next one eventually! - Read another Redwall book, they're just so fun, about the start the 3rd for the year! After the next Redwall book is some non-fiction ideally, and then I'll start Mistborn! Excited to see what my take on the Sanderson style is!
  13. It has been a furious start to Jillian Wood’s career thus far. Growth has been quick as she’s getting her skating legs underneath her as she continues to showcase her talents going forward in the VHLM season, and now an opening playoff round against Houston. Down 3-2 in the series, there is a lot of work to do before this thing is done, and Jillian will have to rally the troops here in order to lead this charge to 2 more consecutive wins. Monday will be a big day here for the Marlins as they have a lot of training to pay out, ideally as early as possible, and could see some substantial growth from some key players before Game 6. Keep an eye on the defenders in particular, as a lot of them are crossing that huge 150TPE threshold and close in on their maximum builds here in the VHLM. London walks away from a tightly contested play-in series against Prague, and walked in with confidence in the opening 2 games against Malmo. The top seed seemed stunned at home, but look to return the favour as the series heads back to London for the next 2 games. London will be needing to pull at least a win here tomorrow to feel any sort of comfort in their initial surge. A return to an even series could mean a decisive morale swing, and momentum is the most important statistic one could ever track. One could reasonably suggest that the London core is starting to show their age, with many of their top players having a down season as compared to S91, But the depth that London has been able to produce, particularly from the forwards, has been notable. The defenders have served their design, as shaving precious cap room in order to flex their advantage in net and up front. Holding the shots to a reasonable level without spending a single more dollar than necessary fuels this machine that aims to win a second franchise Cup this playoff. Many remember a London that was led by the defense, along with one of a couple aging, but still incredibly talented goaltenders. It was always a situation where the forwards, particularly the depth that held this franchise back. One final push of this old design won the franchises only championship win, but the sustainability of that model was hard to put money on. The team wins more games now, but seems far more susceptible to losing from a great goalie effort, and perhaps may not be playing the game the “right way”. Is this new style going to get this team through another playoff round, or has the design gone too far in the other direction? Malmo represents a team that has invested heavily in this defenders and forwards, but has always saved significant money on their goaltending, which has always managed to be serviceable enough to win them games. This season they had all the pieces together, and are looking to see the vision through.
  14. Riga, Prague and London feels like a pretty consistent 4-6.
