I will admit our roster is rather loaded, so like somewhere in our bottom 6 forwards to start, but @Frankis a master of switching up lines to get active people some more playing time

I've actually just recently joined the EFL and SBA! Hopefully you find a good home here, and use those affiliate PT to your advantage!

Super Fantasy Zone - Week 3 - Season 83
jacobcarson877 replied to youloser1337's topic in VHL Fantasy Zone
doesn't matter to me what the question actually meant I still got it wrong -
This should hypothetically be my last week before capping out once again, this time at 400TPE. In the last 2 months I’m pumped out just under 200 TPE. Obviously I’m super proud of myself for doing that, although I definitely used up a lot of player cash, real life cash and time to do that, I still pushed myself to be one of the best earners around these past couple of months. I feel like I owe it to my OG player Jacob Carson to do well this time around. Not that he wasn’t the best career backup ever, but I mean really do well this time. Landon Wolanin has just decided he can score now (I have finally decided to put points in scoring now), so there’s a bit of hope for me that he can succeed. But otherwise, I’ve just been trying to put myself out there wherever I can, including general chat, which is… interesting. But seriously, earning has been tough sometimes, and too easy other times. But now I’m reaching the cap in the VHLE and I can begin looking further into the future at my hopefully illustrious career in the VHL as a depth scoring option.

Obviously, this week has been… interesting on the forum. But I won’t be talking much about multis or all that tomfoolery, but instead more about recruitment and user engagement. I’ve read several .com articles and media spots about the general disinterest from long time users these days. It is definitely hard to see people with power within the league or just general long-standing feel this way strong enough to write about it. But as I read through them, the main ideas didn’t revolve around the new hybrid attributes, player, or team success, but community and engagement. The three leagues we have today stand pretty much on their own now. The commissioners are responsible for handling affairs within their league and making changes to better the playing experience. And I won’t sit here and harp on them for the things that have been done because quite frankly, I think they’ve done a good job. The playing experience in my opinion is better than it’s been the whole time I’ve been on the site. And that’s coming from a guy scoring at half a point a game. The hybrid attributes are a huge success in my book and with potential incoming goalie attributes we can really nail down the best simulation experience. Despite this, there is still a lot weighing on a lot of us. I couldn’t be more excited to join Calgary next season because I know that Ricer and Ben are going to make it a great experience, and I’ve been chatting with the active players as well and they all seem great. This is also the first season I’ve ever been excited about the VHL. I don’t mean this as a shot at any of my old GMs or teammates, who have all been great, at least the ones I actually chose to interact with, but the VHL has always felt so empty for me. People are worried about how the cap will affect teams abilities to be competitive and quite frankly I couldn’t care less about that. The only thing I’m worried about is getting active and passionate members on VHL squads to hang out and enjoy the site together. If teams can’t afford players, they can’t afford members which is way more important. In San Diego and Istanbul right now we have pretty full squads. I don’t interact with all of them regularly at all, but because there are so many, I talk to many of them daily or at least a few times a week. Those communities are exciting for me because there are active members in them. This is not a shot at clickers, because well I’ve been there and I get it. But we have so many active members across the 3 leagues and that’s great, but for many reasons that I don’t have time to outline, and have been talked about at nauseum, so if you’re looking for those just read a few media spots and .com articles from this week, there are hotspots of activity leaving the rest empty. I know we’ve just created a new recruitment team and I think they have a lot of great ideas and talent, and I know recruitment hasn’t gone so great recently. Maybe that’s all it is, and we just need more new members to replace those naturally leaving. But honestly, if you look at the VHL rosters it is sad that even the fullest teams have so many roster spaces unable to be used. If the VHL is truly our top product, why aren’t we filling it? We aren’t even going to come close to filling the VHLM this season. The hybrid attributes don’t matter if half of every lineup are bots by the playoffs. When handling team communities, bigger is always better. There will always be people who just sit back and earn and don’t otherwise interact with the site. And that should be fine, but we should also be maximizing the odds of having more active people in our locker rooms to build connections. I’ve been an advocate for a while for ways to fast track returning high-earning members to the VHL regardless of TPE, to sit and enjoy the VHL experience, in a depth role, and developing into cornerstone pieces of franchises later on. And honestly, I don’t even think it’s about the game for most of us anymore. The sim is really just something that we communally experience together, and its who we experience it with that matters most. I’ve been lucky recently with the teams I’ve been a part of, and I wish everyone had the experience I’m having now. I know this doesn’t actually solve anything but be aware of the pieces being posted, especially by your teammates and friends. 792 words

Current State of the VHL Through My Eyes
jacobcarson877 replied to fromtheinside's topic in Archived Media Spots
I definitely agree on a lot of the things you've said. Obviously I'm not exactly in a position of power or anything, but having open conversation about some of the annoying parts of the league hasn't exactly gotten anywhere. And I don't mean that to be controversial or anything, but there's a lot of passionate users, new and old who want to see the league grow and flourish and that comes with change. I'm not privy to many of the behind-the-scenes processes, but it really does feel like the Commissioners do what they please and the BOG ends up just having really cool coloured names. I have also always been an advocate for the VHLM in particular, because that has always been a league of excitement and community for me. I'm sure part of the blame is on me for not putting myself out there, but the VHL has also always felt desolate to me. There's the couple of close-knit circles who do their thing, and then there's a bunch of people who aren't really around. The VHLM has always had great users and just general excitement for me. So much so that I almost stuck around for another season this season. I've been happy with Istanbul and in the Wranglers LR, but this experience was not one that I've had historically. I wish there was more I could say to help other than "I get it", but alas I get it. -
too long : didn't read (basically asking for a condensed main idea summary to glance through)

San Diego Marlins Press Conference

SAN DIEGO MARLINS PRESS CONFERENCE Week Ending 5/8/2022 or 5/15/2022 Answer 3 questions for 1 capped TPE, all 6 for 2. 1. We currently have 7 players on pace for 20 goals. How many Marlins do you think reach the 20-goal mark? 2. Who do you think has the best player name on the team? 3. If you were GM for a day, what would you do? 4. How do you feel about your players recent performance? 5. Would you rather win 1-0 or 8-7? 6. What was the best meal you had this week? Let’s Go Marlins! @Firekiss @hedgehog337 @BrutalBoost @Brodie_Landry @tcookie @Plate @weekz @Bruh @Snussu @JCarson @DMaximus @David Cobberson @Sam_19 @Hoopydog @Zack @CanucksFan @Crummer77 @aleks @MMFLEX @frescoelmo -
Really interesting stuff and I was really curious to see the initial results. I do agree that obviously the largest recruitment drives recently have been through youtube, and just because there have been the most responses saying Youtube recruited them, doesn't mean it is the most effective tool. I think other platforms, particularly Twitter (which has an incredibly active hockey community) and Tiktok (which has an algorithm scarily good at providing content people are interested in) could be more efficient platforms to recruit from. The big issue with Youtube is you really have to search for what you're interested in, which means we are only reaching audiences actively searching videos on hockey simulation (NHL video games etc.). I personally was recruited from Reddit during the last big Reddit drive from what I gather, and I hope that wecan continue to rebuild the relationship there, because despite me not being an active Reddit user, the ad there brought me in immediately. Really excited to see what the new team can do, and there's a lot of great talent so I expect big things

Game 108 Recap Geneva faces off against Rome today in an offense heavy Coliseum match. Geneva Rush(es) off to a hot start, grabbing 2 goals, the first one coming 16 seconds in. Rome grabs 3, then the game ends up evening out until Escobar finishes off their divisional rivals with just over a minute left in the game. Rome should be happy to have kept up with the surging Rush, while Geneva should leave this game thankful that they picked up 2 points against a team deadest on tearing them down. Special shoutout to Geneva’s top unit containing Escobar, White, Chicoine and Kowalski, who each put up 2+ points in this affair.

It's so hard to stay engaged and focused in a limited role, and I'm glad you're still working hard for us every week! Hope we both get a bit of puck luck for the rest of the season!

San Diego Marlins Press Conference

SAN DIEGO MARLINS PRESS CONFERENCE Week Ending 5/1/2022 or 5/8/2022 Answer 3 questions for 1 capped TPE, all 6 for 2. 1. We are now about a third of the way through the season, and we currently sit at the top of the standings, do you think we will be able to stay there? 2. We have added a lot of players since the draft, who do you think has been the most important addition during the season? 3. Apparently the NHL playoffs are starting, pick a first round series and tell me who you think is going to win and why. 4. Frank just got added to the recruitment team (and got a cool new pink name on the forum), what is one suggestion you have for the new recruitment team on how they can add more members, and retain more members? 5. What song/album/artist have you been listening to a lot this past week? 6. We've seen a decent sample size of games now, what have you learned about the new hybrid attributes? Let’s Go Marlins! -
Landon Wolanin has recently ventured into other sports. He has been coaching Wandon Rolanin and Fandon Solanin in the EFL and has secretly joined the SBA under the name of Candon PoFanin. Obviously, no one has questioned this in any of the 3 leagues and it has gone quite smoothly. Football and Basketball are definitely quite exhausting but have taught a lot about how to train and perform as an athlete. There isn’t always huge overlap in physical skills but being able to take away something mentally from another sport to be better at your primary sport can be very useful. Anyways, I’ve been convincing myself not to join some affiliate leagues for a while since I know less than nothing about other sports but after a particularly boring week and chasing people down on the leaderboards for TPE earned last month, getting a nice affiliate check sounded like a good idea. Definitely made me appreciate the updating process and consistent simulating in the VHL but also it is a bit refreshing joining a smaller community with less overwhelming user bases. Even if I have next to nothing to contribute, it has been fun putting myself out there for something I don’t understand at all.

Hey everyone! After a bit of a hiatus, Ducky here to interview our favourite guest, Landon Wolanin! A lot has happened since we last heard from Landon, so let’s get into it! Why don’t you give us a quick update on how your teams have been doing so far, almost halfway into the season? Thanks Ducky! Why don’t I start with San Diego? The Marlins have been very busy in the last couple of weeks and as of writing this sit in first place in the league! We have made several moves recently, pulling in AK92 Wit Da Hoodie, Boston and Curtis Crumb via trades and despite not seeing much success, have been putting in the work to recruit waiver players. Everyone has been making lots of progress in regards to training, and I’m super proud of all of my Marlins for their commitment to the team game this season. We have been winning games with our strong defence, led by our goaltenders and 5 capped D, and following that up with an ever-improving transition offense. Super excited to see how we can continue to push against the likes of Las Vegas and Halifax, and Miami who seem to be giving us the most trouble, thanks to Art Vandelay. Istanbul got off to a bit of a rocky start but managed to settle into 3rd place, at east until a surging Rush team overtook us. We have all been earning really well, and it has been very inspiring to participate in a team environment that encourages development like Istanbul has so far. Carrying a lot of high VHL draft picks, from the S83 draft and at least one more for the S84 draft. Landon hasn’t exactly performed at a high offensive level yet this season, currently sitting at 8 points in 22 games, but after a 2-goal affair yesterday, anything could happen. There’s still plenty of time in the season, and there is still plenty of room to grow before the season ends. Landon has been taking up a much more defensive role on the team these days, leading the penalty kill and being the puck retriever for the 3rd line. A different role than usual for sure, but it has been a fun new challenge, and should provide valuable experience for the VHL next season. Calgary has had an interesting run as of late. They have fallen down the standings over the past few weeks, getting dominated by their unforeseen rivals Chicago over and over again. They’ve seen some individual success, but the most important thing that Calgary has done this season is keeping up an active locker room. Ricer has put a lot of work into maintaining conversation with players as much as possible, especially given the state of the team and the record the team has put together so far. They’re not out of reach for the playoffs by any means, but it would take a decent turnaround to put a deep run together as of now. Awesome thanks for your time as always Landon, and perhaps we will see you again next week! 517 words claiming week of May 8th
