  1. So if this is my training arc you just made yourself Team Iceland? How did that go for them at the end of the season?
  2. 1. Fuck yeah dude! 2. Was drafted 3. Lotsa Dubs 4. Stop pucks and give no fucks 5.All of the draft hype! 6. More two dollar shot nights!
  3. This is the opposite of quality content with all the tech issues we were having, but anyone who watches the whole thing...don't say we didn't warn you.
  4. @Devise Smooth Pimpin'
  5. Get in mah belly!
  6. Today the first draft took place since my return. I definitely spent longer than I'd care to admit trying to find it since the whole thing is in the portal now and I was still looking for it on the forum. Went full Boomer again on that one. It's cool to see how streamlined that whole process is. You get a push notification when you get drafted now, which is dope as hell. Back in the day it was sitting in a thread constantly hitting refresh with the rest of the league. We've come a long way since our roots as degenerate forum lurking monkeys who shouldn't have been allowed in public. It's cool to see things evolve and progress as the years go on, technologically as well as socially. Having the option to add pronouns to your profile for example, it seems like a small thing, but it's significantly more welcoming to the non-binary members of the community. Back in the day that wouldn't even have been considered, but MOST of us have done a lot of growing up and realized being inclusive is way cooler than trying to pretend to be edgy or trying to use dipshit pseudo-science to invalidate someone's identity (except for you Gen Chat you guys are a fucking nightmare factory that should be flushed down a toilet jesus christ. I'm proud to see most of the people I knew ten years ago have gone on to be relatively well-adjusted members of society. For those of you who didn't, well have fun in Gen Chat.
  7. Yeah that'll solve everything. Then instead of giving people just the results to argue with they can also argue with what everyone said and things will be even more toxic around award times than they already are. Creates more problems than it solves.
  8. I think you missed the entire argument above that about how toxic the community can be toward the voters if those are released. This wouldn't solve that issue at all.
  9. This is a good point as well. Some of those awards take a lot more discussion than others. When a guy leads his position in every category basically everyone just goes "Yup" and moves on, which is totally reasonable. The complex ones are when you have different guys leading in different stats. "Well Player A had 10 more goals and 30 more hits but Player B had 25 more assists. Who's our top Offensive Defenseman". Those are the ones that take pages to discuss.
  10. Publically releasing the votes would be a bad idea. The discussions can get pretty heated among the voters and those are MOSTLY people who have a fairly nuanced take on what's going on. They've generally been expected to be able to justify it to the other BoG members and the Blue team, so there wasn't a complete lack of accountability. The issue you'll run into is that there are cases where there isn't an objective right or wrong answer, and two differing takes could be valid but the guy who loses may or may not see it that way. Way back in the day it was voted on by GMs (which was terrible because you'd have cases where a GM would vote for their guy when he had worse stats in every category than the winner in some cases). But people are going to be pissed if someone votes the other way, and people hold grudges. I've seen people get mad about objective awards before (Most Goals, Most Assists, etc), just because they're mad and they want to blame someone for something. Awards voting is super complicated, and not every member is qualified to weigh in on that discussion critically. The headaches they'll get from angry members aren't reasonably something to expect them to put up with.
  11. We actually used to have discussion threads in BoG during my time, not sure if they still do or not but that was the response previously when this issue arose.
  12. What excites you the most about the VHL? Do you have a specific team you would like to play for? Are you playing for that team now? Everyone has a pre-game ritual. What is yours? Is there any music you listen to to pump you up for a game? Do you have a playlist? If there was any other sport you could play what would it be? What's the worst hockey-related injury your player has endured? 1. Nostalgia for the community that shaped my early 20s. 2. No specific team, currently undrafted. 3. Napping in the airport like my name is Brandon Cutler 4. Jurassic Express' entrance music. 5. Devise nailed it. Stacking those fatty waves top lane so I can go for a big ass tower dive. 6. Broken Pelvis from my vulgar and over the top victory celebration.
  13. 100%, you just give a little more leeway when it's someone who still has a chance of picking it up. I know tons of people my age and older who can't/won't use it. Those people are a waste of breath.
  14. 1. Good. Been earning that hot TPE 2. No conversations yet, nothing to be surprised about though. 3. It's the VHLM draft, I'll be there for a season so I'm not picky. 4. I'd like to put up respectable numbers and make post season. 5. Masturbation 6. Somewhere without Covid
  15. It's more of understanding who you're dealing with. A 15 year old who's tossing out his first conspiracy theory where he ignores half of the evidence that doesn't support his claim hasn't been taught critical thinking and genuinely believes hat he's saying adds value. If the same argument is being made by someone in their mid 20s they either A) Have been taught the difference but chose to ignore it or B) Are too stupid to be able to tell. In these cases that person isn't worth investing the time into, whereas the kid might be. Outside of a community like this I only see these takes out of adults, because that's who I associate with, and so my reflex is to automatically dismiss the person as arguing in bad faith. In the case of younger kids here that isn't necessarily the case, so it's important to keep that in mind.
  16. One of the things I'm starting to learn is that leaving a community and coming back at a different life stage is an interesting experience. I'm a very different person now than I was in 2015, and it's strange seeing some of these familiar faces after so long. Most of them have grown as people in their own right, but some of them are the exact same people they were six years ago. That's too be expected, and is something I've experienced in life before. The difference is that in real life I just stop associating with those people since they don't give me anything positive by letting them exist in my life. In a community like this though, they'll keep lurking as a constant reminder of who you used to be. The thing I need to work on though, is that there are lots of new people, and some of them are a lot younger than I am. As someone who's nearly 30 years old, I tend to interact with 15 year olds as little as possible, if for no other reason than to avoid ending up on a government watch list. I have to remember that they're going to have some bad takes. When I see some of these takes with adults I'm very harsh since they should know better. I have to remember that a lot of these kids need to be taught instead of scolded. I'll get used to it at some point I'm sure.
  17. This is possibly the stupidest interpretation of the announcement that could possibly have come out of the announcement. Are you intentionally missing the point? Literally nobody from Blue or BoG said it was their idea originally. This was a topic of conversation that dated back as far as the mid 40s and has apparently been brought up numerous times since. Trying to turn this into a weird BoG flex they were in no way making is incredibly dishonest.
