I love playing D&D. I've been a DM once or twice but there's nothing like playing. At the moment, I have no group to play with and I am starting to get the itch to play again.

Would anyone be interested in starting a game group? Roll20 now has a feature through Discord so it would make playing really easy.

Just feeling out for any interest.

Aimee reacted to JCarson in Don't believe everything you read
Last week prior to the VHLM draft I put out an article detailing out the priorities of the Mexico City Kings. I posted this article well in advance of the draft partially hoping that the other GMs would take the time to read it. I know that in the past I had several of other GM’s comment on my postings related to being a GM and how I thought about things.

I will admit that the article, although it held some truth was meant as a red herring. I was subtly hoping to influence some of the other GMs to make their selections with my not so trustworthy information in their minds.  Now I can’t tell you if it worked, and for the most part what I wrote wasn’t a complete and outright lie, it was just a reorganization of my thoughts.

I in fact did want to add to my forward depth, it just wasn’t my first priority.  In fact, it was my last priority. I did need to add to the defensive component of my team, which did happen to be my first priority. And goaltending was a close second.  The fact I was able to pick up veteran player Alagsantere Groenvold (VattghernCZ) was one of my biggest surprises.  I had expected that by the 7th pick he would be off the draft table.  Follow that with the ability to pick up goaltender Chazz Michael Michaels (Xflexz) and I can say it made my draft.  With my first 2 rounds picks secured and priorities satisfied, I started to look at options for my third pick which was in the 2nd round.  I quickly exercised the ability to pick up Nathan Blaize (Maple) and with my fourth pick I got Rick132’s player David Michael in the hopes of gaining some added strength as the player developed.

That left 1 last expected pick and unfortunately this one was a bust.  Having seen most of the later round players I had scouted and heard back from leave the draft board I was left picking blind.  I decided that I would pick a low TPE goalie that potentially would be around in season 96.  As goalies can be the toughest position to fill. Unfortunately, I got caught on an Alt that had not been removed from the system.  Severely frustrating but I should have done my due diligence.  Not a massive loss, I will just need to position myself for season 96 in another fashion.

With the draft done that will leave me with 4 forwards 3 defenders and1 goalie, not optimal but I am not sure any of the VHLM rosters are optimal.  Waivers should come in and provide some support over the season, with expectations of that happening closer to trade deadline.  All said I am happy with how things turned out with this draft and look forward to how this team will perform.

Season 96 will be a strong showing for the Mexico City Kings, we will push for another chance at the Founders Cup.  Come join us and cheer us on.

Aimee got a reaction from sadie in Ahsoka's Actual Journey to the VHL
Born on a planet no one in the VHL would be familiar with to a family long lost and forgotten, Ahsoka Tano was raised to be a Jedi. And a hockey player, it would seem. She was found by Master Plo Koon of the Jedi Order and trained to be one of the best Jedi that the galaxy had ever seen. Though, if you asked her, she was no Jedi. Having turned down the title when the arrogant Jedi Counsel refused to admit that there was evil among them and that it wasn’t her. She ran away, fighting for the Mandalorians but then went into hiding during Order 66. She was followed to the ends of the Outer Rim, hunted by the Inquisitors. Found over and over, she was always on the move, trying to find a place where she could just hide and put her past as a Jedi behind.

Once things calmed down some, and the evils around her were defeated by a lone Jedi on a mission, she finally found some peace. The ability to breathe a sigh of relief could be heard far. She worked until she was able to find a ship that could travel long distances without needing a refueling stop. It was small but it would work for what she needed. Ahsoka boarded her ship and took off from the galaxy that she knew, leaving it all behind to prosper or fall as it saw fit. With no one left for her to care about, there was no reason for her to return or ever look back.

So, she traveled for a long time through the universe, making one final stop along the Outer Rim for long haul supplies and fuel. Finally, she was on her own and alone for more light years than she could count. Space was quiet when you didn’t have the New Republic zipping around in their X-Wings trying to give out speeding tickets. No freighters full of supplies or people. No more hiding. No more sneaking around. Just her and the stars.
It was several months before she neared a galaxy that showed any signs of life. However, it was primitive, and technology was still rocks and pointy sticks. But she was able to easily find a place to land and try and find some food and water that she could stock up on. It gave her a good ability to rest and breathe some fresh air as well. After a few weeks of exploring, resting, and restocking, she took off once more and soon entered the Milky Way Galaxy.

When Ahsoka finally approached Earth, she found a secluded area to land and call home. Up in Greenland there seemed to be enough uninhabited land where she could touch down with the ship and get herself sorted. She was able to fit it in a small mountain range not too far from the nearest settlement. Her robes were perfect for this weather, and it reminded her of the winters she had enjoyed and endured on various planets. She picked what supplies she could carry in her bag, shut down the ship for a long hibernation, and then took off.

It was hard to get herself integrated with the local people seeing as she was aware that this planet had yet to make any contact with other species. Strangely, though, Jedia had apparently been heard of and honestly, she wasn’t going to question it. She was too tired of being alone and she was willing to just accept this interesting turn of events. Eventually she found her way in with a nomadic people who were willing to accept her into their community once she was able to prove that she would be able to carry her weight and help provide for the group.

After a few years of wandering, living the life of a nomad, and learning about the planet she was now calling home, Ahsoka discovered hockey. The game was played by the children whenever they found a frozen lake and she fell in love with the fast-paced movements. It also was fun to watch them use the sticks to slap around the puck. It was different from a lightsaber, but her years of Jedi training would actually come in handy as she learned the game and the rules.

Once Ahsoka took off from the peoples she lived with and moved into a small town, she began to learn even more and continued to work to integrate herself into society. Getting to be able to openly know people was something she hadn’t been able to do since she was practically a child, so it was nice to be making friends and be out and about in the real world.

As her knowledge of hockey grew along with the rest of it, she discovered the VHL and its affiliate leagues. It was then that she would work towards her career and find herself amongst some of the greatest athletes in the sport.

OTTAWA, ON — River Harrington and Brandon Petan Jr. have arrived back in Ottawa after being selected 2nd and 4th overall respectively by the Lynx, who they played a short stint for in S94 coming off of waiver claims. The two were seen renewing their lease for their shared apartment for the next year as they prepare for training camp.

There had been reports coming out post-draft that Harrington and Petan Jr., who are childhood friends, specifically told teams who’d interviewed them that they wanted to stick together. Ottawa’s general manager, Blake Laughton, jumped on the chance to bring back two players who breathed new life into a struggling Lynx squad who just barely missed the playoffs after their arrival.

Now with the return of the two offensive and defensive powerhouses, along with another returning S94 waiver Lynx in Kyle Evans, as well as new additions: Marty Flowers, Mikey Lopez, and Seto Kaiba, they are set to join blossoming goaltender Onyekachukwu Chidieber Oluwaseun in a quest for the Founder’s Cup.

Draft day has come and gone and Roger Eagles was selected 3rd overall and will be heading to Los Angeles.

"I am excited to head to Los Angles and get started over there. They have a solid tam of young players an I think in the next little while this will be a solid contender" Roger said " While there was talks of first overall, I am happy for Panda and Sakic to go 1 and 2 overall. Their agencies have great history with Calgary and I think it was just fitting for them to go. While the Eagles dynasty also has some history, I have the opportunity to chart my own path in LA and be the first Eagles to play for that great city"

Eagles is expected to start the season in LA as the teams starter. Many will want to see how well he does in the big leagues with a young team in front of him. If the WJC is anything to go by then he should be able to get off to a hot start. There are some who think he is rookie of the year capable, but with so many great rookies starting off in Season 95, it will be a tough award to achieve.

It’s been six weeks since I was hired as an updater. Holy shit time flies. And I got to say, it’s as good a job as I thought it was going to be. I wouldn’t say it’s an easy job, as I’ve made some mistakes while learning but it’s not a job where I feel stressed. It’s also nice because I am getting exposed to forum content that I probably wouldn’t have looked at otherwise. It’s also giving me the chance to talk with some more of the well-established members of the VHL through the updater chat and I’m enjoying that as well. It’s nice to feel like I’m doing something worthwhile.

    Alrighty!

Many have already been aware of this message coming, however, it is time it is fully open.

At the end of the S95, I am stepping down as GM of D.C. Dragons and also stepping away from managing teams.

S95 will be my 25th Season (With some gaps in between) of being a General Manager of some level in our great community. I couldn't be more thankful to everyone who was and is a person who I have had contact with as a GM. You all are amazing and have made these 25 seasons absolutely amazing. To give a bit of a perspective, as a GM, I have been with few different teams:

S66 I took up a role as a VHLM GM for Houston Bulls
S71 I took up the job of VHL GM for Malmo Nighthawks
S80 I became a VHLE GM for Bratislava Watchmen
S88 I returned to VHL to GM for D.C. Dragons

Throughout those times I have had unbelievable support from players and also have had great experiences with awesome GMs. Houston, Malmo and Bratislava will always make me think of @OrbitingDeath, @Elmebeck, @Erik Summers, @Edustava, @leandrofg, @Shindigs @Zetterberg, @samx, @hylands and of course many many more. Those individuals made my time in those leagues exciting, full with hope and energy. You all deserve massive praise.

Though my time with Dragons will be special as it is my last as a GM. So, I would want to say a massive thanks to people who were awesome, supported the team and my vision and helped us achieve what we all wanted!

@OrbitingDeath - This is the second time I have mentioned you but I feel that your criticism against moves and decisions I made was intrumental in making me a better GM. Thank you.
@emidas - Loyalty is incredibly important and you were the one I and the team could always count on.
@fishy - Even though we didn't manage to achieve the Cup together, you helped the team be what it needed to be and without you many things would not have been possible.
@dustywilson22 - I probably would have already stepped down if not for you and your positive and optimistic outlook towards future. You will remain as one of my proudest draft picks ever.
@Beketov - Bringing you a cup after a long time was special and even though we couldn't extend out Cup window, you are a true class act and I am not sure a manager can ask for a better member to have on the team.
@vincentlg2007 - You are an incredible individual and you were the player that jumpstarted our competitive window. Thank you for your dedication to D.C. Dragons!
@Keegan Gamble - A player with strong backbone throughout the push and a player that was always ready to slot in for the team no matter what their role was. A true team player.
@diamond_ace - What an amazing individual you are, from my VHLM Commissioner to the player that I can always rely on!
@der meister - Making your build work was an incredibly amazing time for me and I will remember those lengthy conversations with you as long as I am around!

To my fellow GMs - you all are amazing and do tremendous work and I hope to see many grea things from all of you in the future!

With a bit of History here, I would want to say a massive thanks to 2 individuals specifically. Ones that I feel have been incredibly important for this journey and the fact that it even started. @BladeMaiden - even though many things have happened, without your push to apply and try, I would not have done this for 25 seasons. And @Banackock - your help, drive and excellence at everything you do was a strong and still remains a massive motivator from VSN to being a GM. Thank you both.

To my current players, I know that the league will find a brilliant replacement and a person who can take this team once again towards a Continental Cup!

    That is it!

Positions Held: VHLM Commish, VHLE Commish, VHL Commish, VHL GM, VHLM GM, WJC Commish, VHLM Fantasy Zone, Updater, BOG + 1 Hall of Fame Player (Battre Sandstrom)

@Acydburn came to us on one fateful day called April 30th, 2019. He arrived from a post in r/canucks, back in our Reddit recruitment hayday. He started with his first player Acyd Burn, and became an earning machine while learning from @Thranduil in Halifax. In his 9th week in the league, he took over from @Esso2264 as the Ottawa Lynx GM. And just days later, he also picked up the VHLM Fantasy Zone position from @Josh. That season Acydburn would also win the Founder’s Cup as a GM in his debut after taking them to a 61 win regular season. He would go on to win a Jack Reilly Trophy in S71 to cap off his VHLM GM career.

That offseason he would pick up a 3rd role, this time as WJC Commissioner alongside @Banackock and @rjfryman.

Then he would tack on a 4th with taking on the role of Updater starting in May of 2020, a role he still picks away at to this day! 4+ years of making sure we’re all getting our TPE, and counting!

Acyd Burn would go on to attain just shy of 1400TPE, and retired peacefully in S73, winning 2 Continental Cups with the S68 and 69 (nice) Seattle Bears.

He would hold the VHLM Fantasy Zone and WJC Commissioner jobs until late 2020, right around when he would join diamond_ace as Sonnet’s replacement in the VHLM Commissioner role. A year and a half in, Acydburn had held more roles across all facets of the site than most ever would. Acyd would begin his career working as a spreadsheet master tracking GM offers and inactives, and helped clean up rosters during an overwhelming recruitment boom from the COVID-19 Lockdowns. He also pushed the decision to move on from inactive players entirely, and brought bots to the VHLM. He also accounted for the potential of further expansion, and worked to enable a flexible framework for the Juniors system to be enabled should rosters reach a certain threshold. This turned out to be something of a prophecy as by mid-2021, a new league was added, the VHLE, and Acydburn joined @Victor as the first commissioners of the Europe branch.

Acydburn would go on to hire old WJC Commissioner buddy rjfryman to fill the spot left by Victor, and would spend most of his time writing punishments for GMs not following the backup rules. He did get VHLE players 2TPE in Practice Facility, and I’ll always be thankful for that. His final act as VHLE Commissioner would be to hire @Enorama, who ironically built a similar reputation in the league as a spreadsheet wizard, which they both used to push very important changes.

Acydburn would also come back to us as a GM, taking over from his once VHLM Commissioner partner diamond_ace as Prague’s 2nd GM. He would win 2 David Knight trophies in his first few seasons, and win a Commissioners Cup as a GM just before stepping down.

He would also finish his 2nd career, this time with Battre Sandstrom, who would go on to be inducted into the Hall of Fame himself, picking up quite a few individual awards, and would play under his own watch, before waiving his own NTC to go to Riga to finish out his outstanding career.

With @bigAL moving on from VHL Commissioner, Acydburn was quickly scooped up by the Blues, and @thadthrasher took over in the VHLE. The Meta Era esarure was in full swing, and the Blues had just unveiled the new system that would save STHS from our min-maxing dreams. It was certainly a tumultuous time for the league, with lots of veteran leadership parting ways with the league, a whole pile of COVID recruits, a new attribute system, and a new Blue on the loose.

Acydburn has never been the face of the VHL Commissioner group, that has usually been filled by @Beketov, but Acyd has been a part of many huge initiatives behind the scenes. Some of these include revamping regression under the new Hybrid System and fixing wonky salary brackets.

Acydburn and I don’t have much history, despite working together as VHL GMs for a good section of both of our tenures, only completing one trade, which I suppose I won as a technicality, as of the picks we exchanged, I managed to pick the only player that would go on to play VHL games, one of my very few draftees who ever would. We have shared a few fun moments together though, Acydburn was the one who hired me for both my BOG and VHL GM positions, and hilariously in almost identical conversations. I broke the news to him that he had picked a player that would put him over the salary cap, forcing the Jacob Stone (@scoop)and Moritz Stauffer (@GoodLeftUndone) swap that altered the course of Prague and Malmo for many seasons to come. We circled around a few more trades and a Fantasy League, but never really made anything stick. I did write Battre Sandstrom’s HOF article, which I believe was one of my first, and one that I’m really proud of. I’m glad to be taking on Acyd’s 2nd one as well. I feel like the keeper of his legacy at this point.

We got to experience a lot of wonderful moments here with Acydburn, and while it wasn’t always a smooth ride, Acyd has been something of a stable force here, always bringing us back down from emotionality and into the objective. Despite the horrors we’ve all seen since 2019, we’ve experienced great leadership from a great guy. With his 3rd player, Matt Murdock, retired, we await what new ventures Acyd will take on next. For now he is a trusty Blue, and while we don’t see as much of him as we may have in the first couple years, we know that he continues to bring great things to our league every day. No crime is left unpunished, and things continue to be safe and stable. I hope to see another player someday soon, and hopefully many more, but for now, we sit back and appreciate what has already been done.

Welcome to the Builder Hall of Fame, after me sitting on writing this for the last season!
