  1. Clayton Park joined the Bears in the time of a rebuild and has had an meateoker start to his rookie season. However on Sunday night there was nothing meateoker about his performance vs the Helsinki Titans! The Titans fired a total of 11 shots in the first and Park came up huge stopping all 11 of them! In the second period the Titans fired a parade of shots, 19 in total. Bert Meyers beat Park on a sweet passing play where he had absolutely no chance, to make it 1-0. Then minutes later on one of Helsinki’s many power plays Julian Borwinn sniped one past Park to make it 2-0. Although it may look like Park had a bad period he absolutely did not! He made some incredible saves in the 2nd and stopped 17 of 19 shots. In the 3rd period Seattle took a dangerous amount of penalties. Park was without a doubt the best penalty killer as he continued to make save after save trying to keep his team in the game. Park only allowed 1 goal on the power play and Helsinki had 11 power play opportunities!! That’s pretty dam good if you ask me! Park continued to battle making save after save in the 3rd and stopping all 18 shots. Unfortunately Seattle’s offence could not get going and they fell 2-0 to Helsinki.

For the first time in his young VHL career, Clayton Park was named the 2nd star of the game. He stopped a total 46 of 48 shots in this game and had a save percentage of 0.958. I’m sure this won’t be the last time we see a stellar performance from this young rookie! Clayton Park had this to say post game.

“ I definitely feel this is my best game as a bear to date and it’s nice to be recognized for my performance. Unfortunately we still couldn’t come out with the W so we will have some things to work on in practice.”

  2. 1) What is the biggest thing you bring to SAN Diego?

    2) What are your expectations for yourself this season?

    3) What will it feel like to put on that jersey for the first time and skate onto the ice in front of thousands of chearing fans?

    4) If you could have any Vhl player or vhlm past or present on your team who would it be ?

    5) Who has been the most welcoming teammate?

  3. 1) Were a growing team that is getting lots of assets for the future. We’re not the strongest team but give it time and then we will be a strong competitor.

    2) There are 3 players from S66 that are an important part of the rebuilding process. Shane Mars, Valeri Morozov and Kari Jurri. Also I think I’m a big part of the rebuild as I am a young goaltender that can be counted on down the stretch.

    3) I think a centre would be wise, I have looked at the talent and think Boris the Forest would be a great pick! He is getting better everyday and putting up good numbers in the VHLM. Also how can you not love that name ???!!!

    4) Vancouver, they added a lot of young depth and will be a tough team to beat.

    5) Helsinki vs Malmo in the finals with Helsinki taking home the cup!

    6) It’s hard to say as I’m not sure on the number of starts I’ll get. However I’ll try my best lol.

Were in a rebuild and I understand that so the numbers reflect it. I am just happy to get a decent amount of starts as a rookie and gain VHL experience!

  4. 1st overall pick in both his VHLM draft and VHL draft, HHH aka Hunter Hearst Helmsley is quite a special player. He played 1 and a half seasons in the VHLM for the Yukon Rush and Halifax Raiders. In his first partial season he scored 7 goals and picked up 12 assist in 24 games. The next season he blew up scoring a incredible 57 goals and picked up an amazing 68 assist in 72 games! It was clear this guy was the real deal and would be an elite VHL super star! At the VHL draft HHH was drafted first overall by Riga. Since the start of his rookie season he has done very well picking up 6 goals and 5 assist in 14 games. Let’s take a quik look at what makes HHH so great!

    (S66) Hunter Hearst Helmsley- C

    6’3, 250lbs

Scoring Ability: HHH has a very accurate shot and uses it to score many of his goals. He has the ability to see the play before it happens and that’s what makes him an elite scorer! I would compare his shot and the release to Alexander Ovechkin!

    Rating: A+

Skating: HHH is a great skater and uses that to his advantage on both the offensive and defence. He also is very fast and will work his ass off to get back to help his defence.

    Rating: A-

Puck Control: One thing I’ve noticed a big difference in is his puck control. He looks a lot more comfortable with the puck and he is doing a better job of guarding it. If he keeps working on this he will get even better then he already is!

    Rating: A-

Overall I would give him a ‘A’ as I believe he is an elite centre that has a very bright future. I think he will be a difference maker in Riga and will help there team a lot in the future. I think this guy will win many awards over his career, including rookie of the year!

Clayton Park had this to say about his former Yukon teammate.

@Beaviss “ The guy has incredible talent and will be very successful in the VHL. He’s the best rookie I have seen in awhile and Riga is very lucky to have him. With that being said I wish him the best of luck getting one past me”!
