  3. I don't know that I'd necessarily say I'm not happy with player build options, but more so that I think options would be an improvement. Personally, my player builds always end up in the same place, just taking a different path. Ultimately I just get several attributes to 90. Along the way there is diversity in how I have built in that I might build more defensively first (Geno Esposito) then get offensive attributes up, or I might build offensively first (Lloyd Light) then get defensive attributes up. In the end, though, I see no good reason to stray from a build that is just all-around, get as many attributes as I can to 90. It does get kind of stale.
  4. When's the last time shit has been this tight between FIVE TEAMS 13 games left for each of them, we have the Meute and Express at 90 points each, leading their respective conferences. The Vikings are just behind at 88 while the Dynamo and Wranglers sit at 85. All the top five teams within five points of each other... damn. Maybe it's not that uncommon; maybe I'm just more into the VHL this season that I'm noticing it. I'll probably do some research later tonight regarding close races, though the standings at the end of the season might not be all that close. Take a look at the remaining schedules between these five teams though... Cologne Davos x2 Stockholm x5 Davos Cologne x2 Quebec x4 Stockholm x1 Calgary x1 Quebec Davos x4 Calgary x3 Stockholm Cologne x5 Davos x1 Calgary x1 Calgary Davos x1 Quebec x3 Stockholm x1 Quebec is looking like they're in the best position. Unlike Cologne, the Meute have already started their backup 8 games. Calgary has fewer games against top teams, but they still have some games left with their backup as well. Davos has the most games against other top teams (8, while all other teams but Calgary have 7). Cologne and Stockholm play a mini-playoff series in their remaining games (including four in a row at one point) which could very well be a huge swing for one team or open the door for Davos to sneak to the top of Europe if they can win games against Cologne and Stockholm and the latter two teams split their remaining games. Exciting stuff.

Week 4 Results Congratulations to some dude named Streetlight for leading the week. Lower scoring week this time around, not sure if fewer games were simmed or something but it's the first time the leader was under 200. Updated standings Draper continues to lead, and with not much season left, it's looking like he'll be hard to catch.

  7. Big Name Member Threatens to Leave VHL The Board of Governors still exists, despite the lack of information coming from them about what they are up to. They continue to work to find ways to better the league, discussing potential changes or implementations. While the time of transparency came and went in a matter of a couple seasons, information does still leak out of the meetings. In general, the BoG shouldn't be concerned with information leaking, because they should be telling us what they are talking about anyway. However, when the story is not entirely relevant to the league's progression, it could be a little more concerning. What I have for you today is a little bit of both. I have some inside information, but not much, on a change being looked at in the BoG. In addition, I have information on one member's over-the-top reaction that may have some of you clamoring for this proposal to be implemented. Given the title of the article, I think you can see where I'm going with that. A meeting of the Board of Governors Apparently the VHL is taking a page out of the SHL's books with this possible implementation. The idea, proposed by Devise, would give members the option to select strengths and weaknesses for their player. This would affect the update scale for the selected attributes. That's just about all the information I have on that, but assumptions can be made about what it would mean: an easier update scale for your strengths and a harsher update scale for your weaknesses. I certainly think it's an interesting idea, and I would be on board with some form of it. While you would still have the TPE beasts who just get everything to 99, it would allow those who don't earn as much to make a player with a specific role. In theory, it would be a buff for them, which would make TPE whoring less dominating. I think it's a really neat concept that I would have liked to have seen more of in my sim league career. Not everyone thinks this is a great idea, however. One member of the opposition is Kendrick, who responded quite extremely to the proposal: "You install those I'm done, the SHL has that and it's so stupid." This quote is as much as I know about the SHL system of strengths and weaknesses, but that's not relevant anyway; what the SHL has or doesn't have shouldn't determine how the VHL functions and how we look at our potential improvements. (Just to be clear, I do recognize that Kendrick wasn't saying that because the SHL has it is why the VHL shouldn't have it.) The point of it all is his threat of departure should the VHL implement such a system of its own. Reports suggest that overall, Kendrick's attitude in the discussion was "poor" and that he was "being pessimistic." Knowing Kendrick, I have no doubt that this is true. BoG members clapping in support of Devise Not one to back down from a debate, Devise demonstrated bravery as he responded to Kendrick's confusion about being called out. "Your attitude was that of one that seemed to imply the idea was already set in stone," the verbose member typed. "[...] and that you were threatening to leave if such an absurd idea ever even remotely entered the league." Although I'm not Devise's biggest fan, and I definitely believe that he speaks bullshit more than a lot of other members here, I'm going to trust him on this one. Kendrick's response was to deny that he was "threatening" to leave the league; "You can do what you want, I wouldn't be holding you back," he rebutted. "Just saying it's not something I prefer so I wouldn't stick around." Personally, I don't see how this change would affect him in such a way that he would leave the league over it, but that's his prerogative. Maybe there's more to the change than I'm seeing, but my understanding is that it's an option you can use to customize your player, but it isn't a requirement. To me, this certainly seems like an extreme overreaction from Kendrick.

  14. You guess Streetlight before it was right. Wait, no I mean it was never right. Well, wait... actually AFTER it was right. But it's not right anymore!
  15. I think we all (read: I) know who was right and who wasn't.
