  2. I actually preferred the Anchorage Owls as an expansion team over Yukon Rush way back in S31. I liked both options, but the community favored the Rush, so that was ultimately the decision.

  5. The Ottawa Lynx currently sit third in the VHLM standings, but we still are hopeful for the playoffs. And while I am still invested in the remainder of this VHLM season, it's hard to not start looking past this season toward the VHL draft. TPE isn't everything, but I think with where I'm at, it's safe to assume I'll go in the top five of the draft if nothing changes drastically. While trades can definitely happen, I'm mostly just looking at the teams that hold those picks right now. Seattle Bears The Bears are in third place, but they have Toronto's first-round pick, which should be first or second in the draft. It's not too often that the first overall pick could potentially go to a team that just won back-to-back championships (not that I necessarily think Seattle will win, but they could), though I think Seattle probably goes in one of two ways this off-season: either this top pick is traded to amp up the roster, or the team sells it's veterans for a (hopefully) quick rebuild around this first pick. While I wouldn't mind joining an already established strong team, if Seattle were to keep the pick and not sell their players, then when I enter my prime, the team would be on the downswing. Quebec City Meute The Meute have some strong S60 prospects already, including Velevra and STZ's forwards, so this could be a good place for a defenseman like myself to join. They don't have any extra picks in either of the next two drafts, but with the prospects they have right now, that's not a huge concern. Riga Reign The Reign could benefit from the Wranglers disappointing season, as they hold Calgary's first round pick (as well as their own, which is currently looking to be 5th). Truthfully, this roster is not enticing for a draft prospect, and I would probably prefer to be drafted to any other team. While they do have several draft picks (three firsts in S61, two firsts in S62), they don't have any prospects in the system at the moment. I'm not looking to be the first key piece on a team's roster; I'd much prefer to join a team that's a little bit further along in the process. HC Davos Dynamo Davos has a few good prospects from the last couple seasons, most of which are forwards, which means they may be looking to add a defenseman such as myself. They Dynamo are in a similar situation to Quebec in that they have some young players but no extra draft picks, basically putting them a season or two ahead of where the Reign are.

  8. Looking at the standings, I think it's safe to say that Toronto's first round pick in the upcoming draft will, at the very least, be top two. The Legion are by far the worst team in the VHL right now. Unfortunately for them, they don't hold their first round pick. (However, they do have New York's, a pick which could very well end up being 8th overall.) Toronto's first round pick is actually held by the team that I predicted to win the Victory Cup and make it to the finals: the Seattle Bears. While the Bears are currently 3rd in the standings, they are certainly a competitive team and could still end up winning a second straight Continental Cup. And then possibly follow that up by picking first overall? They acquired the pick during the off-season leading up to S59 in this trade. I think it's fair to say, looking back, that this deal was a massive win for the Bears. Toronto had Jokinen and Yu for one season, and after winning the Victory Cup, they were knocked out of the playoffs by Seattle. The Bears proceeded to beat the Titans in the finals. Neither of the two players that Seattle acquired in the deal are still on the roster. Warlock was traded during that same off-season along with S61 SEA 1st and 2nd to acquire Mats Johnsson, a very good young defenseman. Lane was a part of the Bears championship team before being traded this past off-season as part of a deal to upgrade at goalie to Markus King. I don't know if Toronto was anticipating being the worst team in S60, so maybe trading their S61 1st didn't seem like a bad idea at the time. Granted, it could have turned into a Continental Cup, but we know now that it didn't. I can't fault them too much for that, as it required a rather massive upset (the Legion were 35 points ahead of the Bears in the S59 regular season). But because of that upset and the ensuing victory against the Titans, the Bears came away with a great haul. With the S61 draft looking to have three incredible players at the top (Podrick Cast, Matt Thompson, and Samuel Gate), having the option to add one of those to an already competitive roster seems great. It also gives the Bears some option in this upcoming off-season; they could either trade some of their older players and start a retooling around that top pick, or they could trade that top pick to acquire some more firepower and try to stay on top.
  9. 1. What do you think of Press Conferences as a task?
  10. 1. Where do you rank Johnsson among all of your players, and where do you think he'll be by the end of his career? 2. Who would you say are the three best defensemen in the VHL right now? (Not necessarily the best statistically this season) 3. Coming into the season, I pegged Seattle as the best regular season team, but New York and Helsinki both have a decent advantage on you guys. Obviously it's still early, but what chances do you think Seattle has at winning the Victory Cup? 4. How do you feel about Seattle's future? No one on the current roster is set to retire after this season, and the team holds Toronto's S61 1st which looks to be a guaranteed top three pick. Could the team transition smoothly after players like Gretzky, Federov, and King are gone? 5. Hypothetically speaking, let's say the Bears win the Cup this season; does that make you more likely to re-sign (to go for the three-peat), or do you think there may be an urge to prove yourself elsewhere as well? 6. What's going on with the Wranglers?
  11. 1. What do you think are Ottawa's biggest weaknesses at the moment? 2. Now that we are halfway through the season, with Victor seemingly back in strong form, how do you think Pod Cast will shake up the top of the draft? 3. Who is Ottawa's MVP?
