  1. I remarked in a previous VHL.com article that I thought I had probably been the most successful as far as the VHFL is concerned, and I've done some research that does not back up my claim, at least not to the extreme of me being the very best. Two other members, @CowboyinAmerica and @boubabi, commented on their prior victories in the fantasy games, and they are indeed some of the top players as well. These two, along with me, are in my list of the top ten most successful VHFL competitors. This list is only considering the current VHFL format, which dates back to Season 52 (seven seasons of VHFL; S55 did not have a VHFL season). Honorable Mention: @FacePuncher - While I didn't necessarily plan to include a required number of seasons to make the top list, the rest of the names have enough consistent success that FacePuncher is the only multiple-win member to not make the top ten. He has two relatively easy first-place finishes and a fourth-place finish in what was a tough group. While his average is certainly impressive (better than all but the top two of this list), he hasn't competed in even half the seasons of the VHFL, so I'm just giving him a mention here. Tied for 8th-10th (no particular order) @STZ - He has two wins, but has also finished in last place twice (though once in a five-man league, which isn't quite as bad as 6/6). He also has a second, third, and fourth place, so his results are kind of all over the board. He has generally played in leagues with one or two tough opponents, including his last-of-six placement which included two other top tens and FacePuncher. @der meister - The only member of my top ten to not have any wins, der meister has three second-place finishes. He does have two fourth-place and a fifth-place finish as well, but those lower results are not quite as bad as they may seem when you consider some of the people he was up against. Overall, though, there are some names he should have been able to beat. @Smarch - Smarch has a win and two second-place finishes, but also two fourth-place and a last-of-six. Similar to the other two, he has some good finishes and some bad ones. Not quite consistent enough to break into the highest tiers of fantasy competitors. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. t-8. der meister t-8. 6. As tragic as the tale of Benjamin Glover is, it has to be him. This was back when New York was a terrible franchise historically, and I was GM of the team trying to turn the image around. Glover, my goalie, joined the team in S24. I played eight seasons with the team, including five finals appearances (four straight from S25-S28) and lost all of them. While this mild "success" was the beginning of a turnaround for the franchise, to have never won with Glover was very saddening. SAHD = stay-at-home defenseman? As far as being a capable fighter goes, I'm not going to be concerned with that. I don't know that there's any evidence that this would be beneficial for a team in any way, and I'll have enough else to worry about. While I do want to be a physical player, I don't necessarily care to rack up penalty minutes for fighting when I'm sure I'll get enough for minors as it is. I'm just gonna skip this question because I don't watch hockey enough to make player comparisons. I do think I potentially have great value for a team on penalty kills, but unfortunately I also think I'll be drawing a lot of penalties myself. But if I'm going to be as good on defense as a team's star defenseman who is all-around great, it would seem more practical to give me ice time when we aren't going to be playing very offensively anyway. Maybe in the 50s. By the prime of my career, if I'm in the right place at the right time, I might reach a point-per-game season. I don't plan on being totally incompetent in the offensive zone, but I will never consider scoring to be my job.
  7. It'd be okay, I guess. Being not as invested in the league as I have been in the past, I don't really have feelings of "oh yeah I really want to be on a team with this guy" like I have with others. But yeah, the most recent I could think of for sure is Jason White and Benjamin Glover on New York. It's very possible that a season or two of another career we were on a team together, but nothing that comes to mind. For updating purposes, with 6 questions answered, this marks the end of my March 26-April 1 cycle. The remaining questions will be for April 2-8. I'm not sure if he's stated how active he's going to be in his return, but if he returns to top form, I don't think you and I will be the top two. Truthfully, I was never 100% on myself being a top two pick, so now with another potential big name in the mix, that just decreases the chances even more, even if he's just 70% of the Victor that we were used to seeing. I actually wasn't aware until just now that it was the Jake Wylde Award instead of the Jack Sound award, but I like that switch. I don't think I was ever going to have much of a chance at the Labatte, so the splitting of the award will actually give me a chance at something. It's probably the only award (save maybe the Stolzy or Funk) that I'll ever potentially have a chance at, so I guess that's nice that it gives me something to look forward to. It does make the decision to build a defensive defenseman feel as though it could be a little more rewarding.
  8. There's an Update Guidelines thread in each updates forum but it doesn't included the update scale thanks @Beketov @Will @Higgins
  9. My expectations were very low when I joined the Ottawa Lynx this season, not wanting to simply join the Rush and coast to a Founder's Cup on the efforts of other players. I think Ottawa was in last place at the time of my signing, and ultimately passed Saskatoon in the regular season standings. This had little to do with my joining the team, but was more so the result of two trades Saskatoon had made about a week before the trade deadline. They had traded away some of their better players, leaving them with a roster much worse than even ours. I didn't realize this until just now, so I was quite surprised when I saw the shot totals for our playoff games against them. In total, we outshot them 121 to 32, while outscoring them 9 to 5 over the course of the two-game sweep. I'm sure we're going to get smoked in the next round, as we advance to face Yukon in a match that could end up being even more lopsided. It won't be a disappointment at all, even knowing that I could have been on that team. It wouldn't have meant anything to win on that team. I am glad for them, though, as Yukon is and will always be my favorite VHLM team.
  10. Jason (diamond_ace) is a competent GM, and I think the team is in good hands while he's around. I don't know exactly how they are positioned for the future, and right now that's honestly not really a concern of mine. I'm only on the team for the remainder of this season, then I'm back in the draft pool. I could end up back in Ottawa, and I'd have no complaints if I do. I'm not expecting to be a team's number one defenseman; at least, not a competing team's top defenseman. Maybe when I'm at the peak of my career a team will be able to rely heavily on me, but I see myself as more of a secondary player. With the way rosters are in the league, maybe to say I'll be a "depth" player isn't necessarily the best wording, because even if I'm the third or fourth best defenseman, I'd still get several minutes. I (will be) more of a physical, defense-first player. Teams can find players who want to score. That's usually not an issue. I'm hoping that by focusing more on my defense, I can help out in an area where a team might be lacking. I likely won't be a superstar player, but I don't want to become a liability. Wherever I end up, there will be players that can score, so I'll let them do that while I play as a defensive specialist. We might be able to get through the first round, but past that, no. Truthfully, when I signed here, I hadn't realized that the Vilhjalmssons had been traded, so at that point I was thinking we maybe had an outside chance at some more upsets, but without them, I really don't see it. I think ideally I would like to go to a team that is on the verge of competing or already near the top of the pack. That may seem a bit odd considering my decision to join Ottawa instead of one of the top two teams in the VHLM, but I'm in the minors for development. Once I'm in the VHL, it's all about winning. As a defensive specialist in an offense-driven league like the VHL, if I end up on a rebuilding team, it's going to be a real struggle for me. I'd like to be able to start my career with a good group of players around me.
  11. Well I did alright I guess
  12. It's because blocked shots have high value, and being on a shitty team, you'll get a lot of those. That's why there are always defensemen who people don't look at for fantasy that will end up being among the top scorers. You laughed at me for taking Forsberg but he's doing better than any of your forwards
  13. A lot has changed in the short time that I was away from the VHL. We are back down to eight teams, the weekly cap has risen, and other things too I guess but all that isn't the point of this article. This article is about reminding everyone how incredible I am when it comes to the VHFL. Now, I don't remember my exact accomplishments of the past when it comes to the VHFL, but I am pretty sure that I'm more successful than anyone else. And as far as my current group goes, I am of course in the lead as the season winds down. With just a handful of games remaining, I likely have my group on lock. Before going into any more detail about how individual players are doing in terms of fantasy scoring, here are the standings for my VHFL group. As you can see, I'm quite good. As you can see, only Kendrick is even within 100 points of myself; even the Undrafted team is closer to third place Pandar than Pandar is to me (not that this is actually all that remarkable, considering there are often undrafted defensemen who don't really have business having high fantasy scores, but do anyway because of their shots blocked and hits totals). My roster actually had three of the top five fantasy scorers in Franchise Cornerstone (1), Felix Savard (4), and Keaton Louth (5). Fabio Jokinen (2) and Ay Ay Ron (3) make up the rest of the top five. Of the top ten skaters, three went undrafted in my group (Augustus Gloop, Colton Rayne, and Adam Warlock), while another four undrafted players (Michael Kinkaid, Diego Jokinen, Boner, and Matthieu Bourdon) are in the top 20. All of these Group 3 Undrafteds are defensemen, and this is not an uncommon thing to see. As far as goalies go, the top three are very close. Ironside, DeGrath, and Stropko are all within three points of each other.
  14. I didn't really care to simply sign with a team to win a Cup for free. Yeah, Yukon will always be a team that is special to me, but they already have multiple active defensemen on their roster. If they were a bit lower in the standings and actually could use a defenseman, then I would have loved to sign with them. If they were in the position where the Aces were, I would have gone to them. As for why Ottawa: after seeing that Yukon wasn't really a good option, it was down to Ottawa and Vegas. I actually had a larger offer from the Aces, who actually had room for active defensemen on their roster while still being closer to the top of the standings. Ottawa became the choice because Jason is a good guy; no disrespect to Spade, I'm sure he's great too, but I liked the thought of my return to the VHL starting off on the team of one of the most prolific VHLM GM's, especially since it's the same franchise for which he was most well-known. The fact that I'd be joining a team with literally no other (non-CPU) defensemen was enough to close the deal. As far as the draft goes, I'm not super concerned with being selected high. Looking at the names out there now, I don't expect to go first overall, but it could come down to team needs between myself and Matt Thompson (Beketov). I anticipate he'll be a higher TPE player, but if I'm not too far behind and the team selecting first is prioritizing defensemen, then it's possible. Most of the other creates so far are in the same boat as me: a returning member who has had success in the past, but has also shown reason to doubt them. All things considered, though, being drafted first overall is not a goal I have in mind. Gate will likely be strictly a welfare player, yes. There are still certainly other avenues through which I will earn TPE. I'll still do some of the smaller tasks, along with all the fantasy zone stuff. I won't be earning my 12 TPE per week cap, so I'll fall behind the most dedicated of players, but I certainly think I can earn enough to be a solid depth player at the very least. It is possible that, from time to time, I'll have an idea for a media spot and some time to spare, but they will be few and far between.
