  2. #1) I used to listen to music or the Jays games on radio before I got married. Now my wife insists the fan stays on while we sleep so that is the only noise I have other than her very loud snoring. #2) I think the Vancouver Wolves this season #3) I don't think there is anyone on McDavids level in the VHL but if I had to choose someone I guess it would be Brendan Marner 1) Do you think the Saskatoon Wild will win more than 20 games this season in the VHLM? 2) Who do you think will win the championship in the VHLM this season? 3) How many games will the Rome Gladiators win in the VHLE this season?

  6. After a fairly lengthy wait, or what felt like one anyway, I have been drafted to a VHLM team! Tonight I was selected 6th overall in the S88 VHLM Dispersal Draft by the Mississauga Hounds! It's kind of a homecoming for myself as I spent some of my youth actually growing up in Mississauga! During the lead up to the draft I had only heard from two or three teams so I was really unsure of where I'd end up or where in the draft I'd be selected but I am quite happy with this end result. One of the teams that did reach out was Mississauga and I had a good chat with them and I really liked their vision and what they are planning to accomplish with the Hounds. Shortly after the draft I arrived at the locker room and quickly found it was after hours as it was fairly quiet! I look forward to meeting my teammates and getting the new season underway! 166 words
  7. In an unprecedented situation, the Junior Showcase Tournament has had to be replayed! The league has not commented on the situation other than to let us know we had to lace up our skates and replay the tournament to date. We had between 19 and 22 games played per team in the first go at things. Team Clue was on top with 26 points followed by Steel (24), Warriors (22), Royals (20), and Brigade (14). The standings were pretty close with several games to go before the news dropped about a restart. The top 3 point getters in the first attempts were Liv Slater of the Brigade (34 points in 18 games), McDonalds BigMac of the Warriors (32 points in 20 games), Jasper Davis of the Warriors (31 points in 20 games) and Legacy Gaming of Team Clue (31 points in 19 games). Gregger McKeggegger of the Steel led the league in goals with 16. On the goalie side of things, Olivier Gauthier was sitting way atop the goalie leaders with a goals against average of 1.59 and a save percentage of .921. So what happened after the restart? The first change we noticed was an alignment change that had the Warriors and Team Clue swap conferences. The second thing we noticed was a significant shake up in the standings! Now leading the way were the Royals with 31 points followed by Brigade (26), Team Clue (23), Warriors (20), and Steel (19). The restart was great for the Brigade who saw themselves improve greatly over their first go of things. When we look at player statistics, Mason Jones of the Royals (32 points in 22 games) leads the way with teammate Francesco Mancini (31 points in 22 games) right behind him . Liv Slater who was leading the first attempt is still hanging up there with 30 points in 22 games, a slight dip in production but still very impressive. Mason Jones is also the goal scoring leader with 18, 4 more than Gregger McKeggegger of the Steel and Jasper David of the Warriors who both have 14. Taking a look at the goalie leaders, Olivier Gauthier is still holding his own with the top save percentage of .901 and is second in goals against average with at 2.51 which is just behind Boolie Buchholz of the Royals who has 2.40. I'm not quite sure how many games each team plays in this tournament but it look like there is still a large chunk of the tournament to go as we've played through game 55 and there are 75 total. To date, it's been fun taking part in the tournament, a really nice way to stay busy before the drafts come up. The restart has taken some of the shine off of the tournament but we're still getting to play games and that is what makes things fun (unless of course you're this player who completely fell off between restarts). Thanks to the convenor and a good luck to you as we wrap things up and good luck to the teams the rest of the way! 515 words
  8. 1) For how long? If it was for anything more than a day or two probably not 2) Not really, but the VHLM draft definitely! 3) I am new so not sure if it's better when you have a team but I do find it kind of long but I think that's because it also included the playoffs where I had nothing going on. 1) Would you say you’re more of an extrovert or an introvert? 2) Do you have a favorite holiday? Why or why not? 3) What’s your go-to guilty pleasure?
  9. It's hard due to timing of joining but we have the draft coming up soon and that's when the fun will begin! In the JST I am playing almost half as many minutes as some forwards and barely producing but I think it's a mostly for fun thing. Soon we'll have a team!
  10. The playoffs and off season have felt like they've taken forever. While it can be exciting for those in the playoffs, it feels like a very long wait for someone like myself who is yet to be drafted. Sure I was able to cheer on Davos and San Diego in their respective playoff games but eventually I'd like to be part of the team actually playing in those playoff games! Now that the playoffs are over, things are starting to move! Congratulations to the winners of the various leagues by the way: Calgary Wranglers (VHL), Cologne Express (VHLE), and Ottawa Lynx (VHLM). First, is the Junior Showcase Tournament which finally gives me a chance to see myself in action against other junior players. So far, it's been a little disappointing as I only have 2 goals and 2 assists in 10 games.I guess overall for my first time on the ice in the VHL isn't too bad but you always want to see yourself do better. The team, however, is doing quite well sitting in the middle of the pack of teams all separated by only four points. It looks like there is still a large number of games remaining so there is plenty of time to keep adding to our totals as well as my personal totals hopefully. Ice time seems a little skewed as well with a couple forwards closing in on 30 minutes a game versus my 15 minutes per game but as a rookie this happens and probably should if a team want to win games. It's still been fun watching the results roll in, lets go Warriors! While the JST is going on, teams have begun scouting for the draft! Always an exciting time when you start getting to talk to teams about their plans for themselves, yourself and getting the chance to ask the usual beginner questions. It's always interesting to see how many teams reach out and see their various different scouting methods and I very much look forward to talking to several teams. Hopefully as the draft approaches I'll hear from more teams as well! Speaking of the draft, it has felt like it's taken forever since I created my player. It's only been just over two weeks (16 days) but it's exciting getting into the league and just FEELS like it's been longer. There is no date set for the VHLM draft yet but it's definitely inching closer and closer with each day that passes and I am really looking forward to finding a home! While there is no draft date set, I continue working on my TPE and applying it as I continue to train harder. Really looking forward to getting some training help as I progress since I am very unfamiliar with the VHL still so some words of wisdom are always welcome. In the meantime, I'll keep hanging out in a couple teams locker rooms chatting with people, absorbing knowledge and generally just having a really fun time. 500 words
  11. The Junior Showcase Tournament is underway and we're several games in at this point. Teams have played between 9 and 11 games and the standings are still very tight with four points separating first and last place. In Conference 1, the Steel are in first place with 12 points just a point up on the Warriors who have a game in hand. In Conference 2, Team Clue is in first place with 12 points followed by the Royals with 9 points and the Brigade with 8 points. All teams in Conference have played 9 games. Liv Slater of the Brigade currently lead the tournament for points scored with 19 in just 9 games, a fantastic 1.39 points per 20. Nils Andersson isn't far behind points per 20 at 1.35 scoring 9 points in just 6 games so far. So far, all of the goalies have a save percentage under .900 with the top one being .876 from Boolie Buchholz of the Royals. The only sub 3.00 goals against average is from Merome Dilson of the Brigade. One thing I find a little odd are some of the average minutes played numbers. There are some forwards nearing 30 minutes a game while some are much further behind. I figured the minutes would be more shared in a showcase tournament but it is what it is. 224 words

  13. 1. Yes we do Easter eggs here in Canada. Used to have fun hunting them down on Easter as a kid, now I just like eating the Cadbury creme eggs 2. There are so many places I'd love to go. Cuba again, I'd love to visit Costa Rica and all the eco stuff there. Probably my dream vacation would be to visit Europe and visit some of it's oldest sights. The Colosseum, Stonehenge, Acropolis, then maybe dip down south out of Europe and hit up the pyraminds in Egypt. I just really like some of the old stuff there is around. 3. Will be my first season in the VHLM, I just hope to be productive, more so than I am in the junior tournament right now 1. If you could join any past or current music group which would you want to join? 2. What is your favorite family holiday tradition? 3. What is one thing you will never do again?
  14. Thanks for mentioning me on the podcast! Also, your pizza segment was interesting. Going to suggest that to my wife and see what she thinks
  15. When I joined the VHL, the league was just starting the playoffs. It seems to be a quiet period for new players with not too much going on. One of the first teams to reach out and invite me to their locker room was HC Davos Dynamo, a gesture I appreciated very much. When I joined they were just celebrating their sweep over Riga Reign and the excitement was definitely there, it really pulled me in. As they advanced to the next round they would face off against the Malmo Nighthawks, a team that didn't finish too far behind the Dynamo in the standings. In a pretty tightly contested series, the Dynamo would prevail in seven games sending them to the finals against the Calgary Wranglers. The Wranglers finished ahead of the Dynamo in the regular season standings but anything can happen in the playoffs and we're set for a pretty good series I think in these finals. It's very exciting to follow along with the team, I don't have any team yet at all so it gives me a way to get to know some of the teams, the players, and ultimately the league so I very much appreciate the locker room invite by the team. I'll hang around until they kick me out and cheer lead the team on as they enter the finals! 226 words

  17. The San Diego Marlins fell just short of a second huge upset in the VHLM playoffs. The Marlins didn't have a bad season by any means finishing in third place in the Western Conference with 87 points and a goal differential of 22. They were, however, tasked with facing the Miami Marauders (53 goal differential) in the first round of the playoffs. Miami finished tied for first in the Eastern Conference with the Ottawa Lynx (63 goal differential) at 101 points. Miami got off to a great start taking the first two games for a strong 2-0 series lead which two games later would be a 3-1 lead and ready to wrap up the series. The Marlins were not ready to go home and took the next two games by scores of 3-2 and 5-3 leaving the series going to a seventh and final game. Game 7 would be a tightly contested affair with Miami scoring at 18:53 of the third period to tie the game at 2. This game was going to overtime! Kenny Etsa Ramiran would provide the heroics scoring at 4:14 sending the Marlins to the second round after knocking off the strong Marauders. While the Marlins celebrated their victory, the playoffs would not get any easier for them as their next opponent was the Ottawa Lynx who were well rested after knocking out Halifax 21st in four games to one. This would be another close series with San Diego facing elimination in game 6 of the series. The Marlins got out to a quick start and 2-0 lead after the first period. Ottawa would counter with a goal in the second and another in the third tying the game up and sending the game to overtime. The Marlins were hoping to overtime luck to strike again and after Gregger McKeggegger picked up a penalty for hooking they saw their opportunity on the power play. Reinhard von Kongming would pick up his first goal of the playoffs sending the Marlins fans home happy. The Marlins would live to see another game seven. Game seven would get off to a rough start for the Marlins as Ottawa would finish the first period out in front 2-0. Those two goals were on 6 shots as the Marlins carried an 11-6 shot advantage after one. The second period would see no goals scored and this period was carried by Ottawa leading the shot clock 11-7. The third period saw the intensity turned up and under two minutes in Jasper Davis would notch his 6th of the post season getting the Marlins to within one. At the 5:49 mark, Reinhard von Kongming would pick up his 2nd of the playoffs tying the game at two. It was starting to look like the Marlins may have a real chance at a second upset with momentum on their side. Unfortunately for them, Sjin would take a hooking penalty killing the momentum for San Diego and putting them shorthanded. Roughly a minute into the kill, FISTED ANALLY BY A CIRCUS MONKEY Analfist would net his 6th of the playoffs putting Ottawa ahead 3-2 in the game. With twelve minutes remaining in the game, there was plenty of time for the Marlins to get one back. Time was now the enemy for the Marlins. A penalty late in the period had them killing off two minutes of Ottawa power play but they would then have a final chance with just under a minute left as Ottawas Winston Dixon jr picked up a hooking penalty. Despite a flurry of activity around the Lynx net, Ottawa would hang on for the victory! Was a fun run to watch for the Marlins! Ottawa would go on to face the Mexico City Kings. 622 words
  18. 1) No, I don't think so although they are definitely making it entertaining 2) I really like Dusty Wilson from Seattle 3) Part of me would like to go back to prehistory because I love dinosaurs but if we're looking at other times I can't decide between Ancient Times (maybe out in Rome or Egypt) or stick it out in modern times and the Victorian era. I'd love the Middle Ages but it looked brutal. Questions 1) If you were a super-hero, what powers would you have? 2) What's the longest you've gone without sleep (and why)? 3) Who was your first celebrity crush?
  19. I am super new to the league and am enjoying it a lot so far. Thanks for sticking around and helping shape what it is today! Congrats from a fellow Nova Scotian!
  20. Round one of the VHLM playoffs are well underway with only one series still yet to be decided. In that final series, the San Diego Marlins and the Miami Marauders are tied at three games each in their best of seven series. It's west coast versus east coast in this tight series where the upstart Marlins are pushing the heavily favoured Marauders to the brink of elimination. In an already completed series, the Ottawa Lynx defeated the Halifax 21st in five games. Ottawa was by far the team most expected to win this series but Halifax put up a good fight and didn't have any real blowout games against them. The Mexico City Kings eliminated the Las Vegas Aces in five games in probably the biggest mismatch in the first round. Mexico City finished a whole 47 points ahead of Las Vegas in the regular season. In the final series to look at, the Houston Bulls eliminated the Mississauga Hounds in yet another five game series in this round. Both teams finished with 96 points on the season but it was Houston who controlled the series from game one with a 9-1 pounding of the Hounds. One game to go as San Diego looks to upset Miami and then we move into the next round! 215 words
  21. The playoffs are a time for excitement and heartbreak. Teams battle hard trying to make it all the way to a championship and players are deeply invested in their teams cheering each other on when they win and comforting each other when they lose. For someone in Jeffs position, they are somewhat in limbo as they aren't invested in any particular team and only passively watch the playoff results roll in. Without a team drafting him he doesn't have a team that is his, instead he relies on the kindness of GMs that may extend a locker room invite giving him a chance to meet other players and giving him a team to have some interest in and follow in the playoffs. In this period before being drafted, he continues to train hard continuously improving himself even though he has only been in the league for a few days now. He has to, he awaits the Junior Showcase Tournament currently which is something that he is very interested in. It will give him a chance to showcase what he can do to prospective teams. Waiting, however, is hard and it feels like it will be forever although it really won't be. Just a couple more weeks! With the tournament coming up, he's not entirely sure how it works yet but he's been looking around at others in his draft class to see how hard they have been training. As part of the S89 class, he sees some players have already found teams and have been training longer than him but he's quite happy with where he stands so far. He has had a lot of questions so far and other players have been very welcoming and forthcoming and this makes for a very smooth on boarding process and he thanks those who have reached out to him with advice, words of encouragement and answers to his many questions. He'd also like to thank a GM who reached out to him and let him hang out in a locker room while he waits. When looking at his draft class he finds himself sitting sixth in TPE with some work to do this week yet. A couple of defencemen are on top. Erin Queefson of the Las Vegas Aces and Pope Francis of the Ottawa Lynx are the top of the class to date. The class will still grow but he finds himself quite happy with his effort so far as he works towards finding a home. If we remove the players who already have a team and just look at free agents he is second in TPE, again, with work to do this week still. Of the available free agents, only Montgomery Burns is ahead of him so he feels quite good about his start. Now he awaits the playoffs to end so he can get to showcase his talents for prospective GMs of the VHLM and find himself a home in the draft. He looks forward to being scouted by teams as the draft approaches and hopes to have some good interactions with more people. Good luck to all of the teams in the playoffs currently! 526 words

  24. I am not entirely sure when the cutoff for the draft classes are (and there might be a few weeks left, I'm just not sure) but so far the size of the S89 class is shaping up to be quite small compared to previous seasons In each of the last three classes (S88, S87, S86) they all had over 100 created players. So far S89 has thirty players created including myself but I am guessing before and after the Junior Showcase Tournament we'll see a lot more created. I always find it interesting to see how many active players are created and continue on for a few seasons and I see some familiar names around here as well that are fairly active elsewhere. I'm excited for the junior showcase tournament to see my player get into some games, then it will feel real and we can hope to find our first team and our first locker room that we'll be with for quite some time. I'm just hoping there are plenty of other S89 creates around to also take part in the tournament and generate some draft buzz! I can't wait for the playoffs to wrap up and get things going for Jeff Lewis! 204 words
