  2. Partial to the Helsinki jersey.
  3. You literally utilized graphs. Dang! That's dedication. This is a proper write up, and impressive if nothing else. It was wordy yet easy to read and compelling at the same time. I've read a lot of forum posts in my short time here and not many have entirely made me want to search a specific author, but I'll be checking out some of your other work as well.
  4. A well though out press conference, and the gif/header is fire. Literally and figuratively speaking. Very neatly composed and organized with all of the mentions. The accurate inclusion of statistics really bumped it up and gave it a professional feel. I may have to take a page from your notebook for any of my future press conferences.
  5. Maybe the best reporter name, but probably not the best reporter.
  6. 1. How do you feel you've performed thus far into the VHLM season? I feel my performance has been way below my expectations as well as everyone else's. I strive to be great at what I do, which is probably relatable in any given profession. Currently, I'm just in a rut with only 5 points in 10 games, but I'm looking to be a breakout player before it's all said and done. 2. Do you have a teammate who you feel you can count on to back you up? Yes. Another player that I seem to have some chemistry with has been @Noodle Enjoyer. We both started and the same time, and they've been super supportive and extremely helpful. 3. Is there a player on an opposing team that has her your respect or disdain, if so why? I couldn't honestly narrow it down to any one player as far as respect goes. There needs to be a certain level of respect for every player in the league. So, I'd say that all of you are in even keel in the respect department. So far, I haven't had any real feelings of rivalry against anyone specific. 4. Is there a team you're particularily interested in getting drafted by? Well, at the moment I'm trying not to focus too much on the draft itself as much as I have been staying in the moment and trying to elevate my game. When the draft comes, I'll just be happy to be selected. 5. Do you believe your Squad is capable of winning the Founders Cup this year? Of course I do. We're off to a slow start, but we're gaining momentum as time goes on. There are a few key pieces missing in the line up, but we're making the best of what we're working with. 6. Who to you is the scariest opponent right now? (Team/player/goalie) To answer this is to say that I live in fear of someone or a team as a whole. If I go into the ice with that type of mentality I'm doomed. So, going back to the question about respect, I just try to equally respect everyone and not put any one individual in a pedestal.
  7. With the first week of games wrapped up, I'm here to report on a potential VHLM prospect who is currently in the VHLM. Initially going into the season, UghSike showed more potential on paper than he has on the ice. With ten games played, he only has five points. Four of which are goals. With a +/- of -3, it appears as though his current line is struggling a bit in the defensive zone. However, surprisingly he's been very successful on the face-off dot, winning a lot of draws when necessary. Going into the season, scouts predicted him to be "one to watch" as far as racking up a lot of assists, but with only one assist in ten games, I think they may want to reconsider their initial assessment. As far as draft potential goes, he was initially predicted to go early to mid second round, but that is also questionable. With the numbers (or lack there of) he's putting up, this may considerably drop him down the overall ranks at the end of the season. Of course, there's plenty of hockey left and still adequate time for him to make a noticable difference wholly as a player. Generally speaking, we don't count anyone out based entirely on early season performance. Even the big names and trophy recipients go through dry spells. All things considered, he's new to the league and some players adjust more quickly than others. He definitely has potential to be a top contributor to any team, but I feel it's just a matter of adjusting to his new environment. Recapping on what's been stated previously, maybe it's a matter of adjusting to a new team and "gelling" with his line-mate's style of play, or just first season jitters. His line is taking shorter shifts as well, so less ice time correlates to less opportunity to produce. He's going to have to utilize the shift lengths his line is receiving, and capitalize on any given opportunities to contribute something in that small window. Averaging roughly six minutes a period and respectively seventeen minutes per game, his line is responsible for about a third of the entire game on any given night. His lack of penalty minutes almost guarantees he'll at least be on the first penalty kill line. But, will he ever contribute enough in the points department to be considered for one of the two power play lines, let alone anything above the third line? All of Saskatoon is rooting for him as well as the team as a whole, which have been lackluster thus far. The team isn't terrible. Granted, they struggle with defensive pairings, but that's only due to being short manned in that department. I think the acquisition of one or two more solid defensemen will help greatly. I'm sticking with a previous prediction of UghSike going early in the draft. Sometimes, the bar is initially set too high, and when these players aren't living up to the media hype and expectations of the fans, they're considered a bust in the draft. But, with anything, time and patience is a bit of a requirement. I think as we get deeper into the season, a lot of naysayers are going to be eating their words. 8. That's laughable, and hopefully no reflection on the TWO Chipotle's that are opening in my town soon. Also, getting a Five Guys burgers, so one of the 3 has to be good. Fingers crossed.
  9. Great piece! Well thought out and composed. It was flattering to see myself covered in this. Thanks for the mention!
  10. Thank you kindly!
  11. Thanks. I truly appreciate it, and the sentiment is reciprocated.
  12. The scope of my initial scouting report on UghSike will cover 3 aspects of his play style. Offensive vision, Shot, and defensive coverage. Player name: UghSike Team Affiliation: Saskatoon Wild, VHLM Handedness: Right handed shot. Primary position: LW H/W: 6'2", 210 lbs Making his debut in the VHLM, UghSike seems focused and looking towards the future. As I sit in the stands and watch some of this season's rookie prospects, there are a few notable player's who catch my eye. One of them being UghSike who I was specifically assigned to scout. He seems confident with the puck and comfortable at both ends of the ice. If I were to categorize his player archetype, I'd consider him a two-way forward/playmaker hybrid. His vision, offensive awareness and passing are where he excels. Some may say he's afraid to take a shot, but I made the deduction early on that he generally looks for the best scoring opportunity in general. If a teammate is in better scoring position than he, he will capitalize on that and dish the puck selflessly. Positionally, he knows where to be to create space and get the defenders out of position. He's good a cycling the puck. Whether it be down low, back to the point, cross crease or a nifty saucer pass to a seemingly impossible receiver. *Compounded Grade for OV/PA - B+ From what I've noticed today, he's no slouch with his shot release either. He has a very strong slapshot, and his snap/wrist shot is nothing to overlook. He seems good at finding the gaps between the pads and the back of the net. With some work on accuracy, I foresee his slapshot as being one that opponents are reluctant to try to block. His wrist shot accuracy can use some work, but the release is wicked. Reviewing a few of his shots via my tablet, I don't think I've seen too many others get every ounce of whip out of their stick the way he does. Upon release, the shaft of his stick is something reminiscent of a hunter's bow fully drawn. *Grading for wrist and slapshot - B Finally, I'll make mention of some areas that could use improvement. Physicality and checking are somewhat non-existent in his game. Although not all player's play a physical game, it's imperative when necessary. He has the size to be a physical presence, yet seems reserved about using it to his advantage. I don't see this as being a long-term issue. I think he's just finding his feet if you will, and as time goes on and comfortability in the league becomes less of an issue his impact (no pun intended) in the checking department will be formidable. *Grading for defense awareness and checking - D If I were to give an overall assessment for what I've noticed in his play style just from today, I'd give him a solid B grading in aspects of offense and a D+ in his defensive coverage and back checking. This is by no means a final grading. At just 19 years old, his full potential is only beginning to blossom.
  13. "I used to be an adventurer like you until I took an arrow to the knee." Had to post a review based on the fact that the word "Skyrim" caught my eye. It's uncanny. I started playing this game again after all the updates too. Seems to have more replay value than Fallout 4, and let's face it, Fallout 76 is still kinda trash. Nevertheless, I wish you well in your potential GM endeavors. Seems much easier than battling frost trolls with an iron dagger and leather armor. Follow your dreams! One day you can be just as good in the VHL as you proclaim you are in real life!
  14. +10 UghSike *Will be 104 TPE after approval on my submitted Scouting Report
  15. Good to know that folks are approachable. This should work well for me since I like talking to people but not always when it requires in-person conversations. I pretend to be an extrovert at work, but that's all it is. Pretend.
  16. Born in Ireland, and touching down in Saskatoon by way of Pennsylvania, I feel ready to make an impact in the VHL. Of course, there's a bit of anxiety tied to moving to an unfamiliar place and joining a new team, but I think most of my nervousness is derived from not living up to my expectations. I set the bar high for myself, and I'm well aware of the competition in this league. I know I have to make my mark early in the league in order to uphold my end of the bargain as far as expectations are concerned. I didn't sign the contract for the money as much as I did out of respect for the Saskatoon organization. The Wild settle for nothing less than 110%, and I'm motivated by the coaching staff and my teammates to give them that. This team has a rich history of success, and I want to be a part of that success. After all, I've worked very hard prior to my contract offer to be noticed. Why would I stop there? My only intention is to progress, and contribute night after night. To me, anything less is unacceptable. So far, my rookie season has been amazing. As a team, we're just familiarizing ourselves as we have a strong rookie prospect presence along with outstanding veteran presence that provides some really stellar leadership in and out of the locker room. There's always work to be done, and everyone is going above and beyond the call of duty as far as making me feel welcome and helping me to adjust to my new environment. So far, in my first 2 games, I have managed to tally two goals. I'd say that's a good start. With notable passing skills, I expected to have more assists than goals, but clearly I'm in an unselfish team. So, I'd say I'm excited to be a part of The Saskatoon Wild organization. I think we're going to surprise a lot of the doubters out there. So far, we're 0-2, but like I said earlier, there's always more work to be done. The team as a whole seem to be on the same page. Recognizing our strengths and weaknesses early on so that we can address the adjustments that need to be made. As long as we keep on pushing, and don't get too complacent then I believe everything else will fall into place. I think one of our secret weapons is that we don't take any team for granted. I'd suggest the rest of the league give us that level of respect as well because we may be down, but we're never out.
  17. Thank you! I'm looking forward to this season!
  18. With the season just underway, it's still too early to make any solid predictions. Let's take a look at some notable performances in the first games so far. @Leon Bruhmaninho and @Ivan Ivanov are both tied thus far with a WHOOPING seven points in only two games. At this rate, it may be a tight race for the Alexander Chershenko Award. Two players not far behind with six points in two games are @Bilbo Teebaggins, @Wayne Shotzky, and with six points in three games is @David . This is an impressive start to any season, but with @Ivan Ivanov having six of their seven points coming from goals they appear to be locked and loaded for the coveted Alexander Chershenko Trophy. In the blue line, @Bilbo Teebaggins is making a name for their self. An astonishing early performance for a defenseman. Averaging 3 points per game, perhaps it's not the forwards for @The Miami Marauders that teams need to worry about. Although, the "one two punch" of @Leon Bruhmaninho seems to be a force to be reckoned with. I'd recommend any team to adjust their strategy and play tight man coverage on these two. Taking a look at our net minders, @Ondrej Vencko has an impressive save % with 0.96% iand a GAA of 0.92 in their first start. Unfortunately, their one start resulted in an overtime loss to @San Diego Marlins. That's a tough break for @The Houston Bulls who are currently 1-0-1. Nevertheless, I wouldn't sleep on Vencko as a firm contender for the Benoit Devereux Trophy. In their first season, they are playing at a higher caliber than most would expect from a rookie net minder. Of course, these are just numbers. Personally, I don't think statistics and numbers entirely correlate to a player's overall ability. There are many factors that play into this. After all, hockey is a team sport. This is not to say that all player's don't have potential to be great. Because, let's face it, we all have good days and bad days. It's rare to see 110% efficiency in any aspect of life. Defensive pairings that aren't fully adapted to their partners style of play may take more time to "gel". The same goes for forward lines. There are a lot of fresh faces out their, and this report is just a quick glance at the season so far. I think as time goes on, teams will make some line adjustments and find that perfect mix. I'm looking forward to this season and seeing how it pans out. Honestly, it's way too early to make any real predictions. I still think there are a few teams with great potential, but are still feeling out their line ups. I wouldn't count anyone out at the moment. Reporting from Saskatoon Sir Dingus Clappingham Esquire
  19. At 6'2" tall and weighing 210 pounds, the 19-year-old Irish native has a gentle demeanor that often leads others to mistake him for being physically weak on the ice. However, this is far from the truth. Although he has soft hands, don't sleep on him. His fists are hard as stones, and he's willing to sit for 5 or take a game misconduct for the greater good of his team if necessary. He knows his strengths and prefers to use them to his advantage. His vision is one of his greatest assets, and he excels at exploiting it to help his team. He is quick and has excellent passing skills, which he uses to get the puck past the defense and into the hands of his teammates. He is known for making extra saucy passes, and his shooting skills are not to be underestimated. If you don't prefer extra sauce, too damn bad. Because every dish comes with extra sauce at Ughsike's Rinkstaurant. As a newcomer to the VHL, he is expected to score many points, both in terms of goals and assists. Although he prefers to remain unnoticed, his dedication to the game of hockey is sure to quickly put him in some headlines and highlight reels.
  20. Congratulations to all of the trophy recipients!
  21. Love the color schemes. Home jersey gives me Notre Dame vibes!
  22. The Untapped Potential of UghSike Our reporters reached out to one of the newest acquisitions of The Saskatoon Wild and asked for an interview. After some reluctance to take a day off from practicing he agreed to meet us as long as we bought him lunch at Chipotle. Good afternoon, UghSike. If we knew that all it took was Chipotle to get you to answer a few questions we could have saved a trip, Door Dashed your order, and did the interview over the phone. Gas is expensive these days. Well, if I'm being honest, I needed to get out of the apartment for a bit anyway. But, aside from that, you can just call me "Sike" or "Shawn". Whichever works for you. OK. Noted, Shawn. So, now that you're making your debut in the VHL are you finding that your adjusting and transitioning easily to a higher level than your previous experiences in the South Jersey GHL (Ghetto Hockey League)? So far everyone has been very accommodating. Initially I was intimidated by the league as a whole because I know there's a strong veteran presence with much more experience and skill than me. But, I'm looking to learn from the older generation of players to help me hone and build on my skills. It's nothing like my previous experience in the GHL. But, I like to keep a growth mindset and remain open to the suggestions of the coaching staff as well as the teammates. Couldn't have said it better myself! So, what do you feel your strengths are and also what are some of your weaknesses that you foresee yourself possibly focusing on? I'd like to think that I have a strong sense of where my teammates are on the ice and great passing vision. If I'm not in a good shooting position, I'm going to find the blade of your stick and collect that "apple". If I can't put the puck in the net, I'm going to make it my goal to help a line-mate do it. I think I may try to focus on some strength training in the future. I'd like to be a more physical presence. Being able to get in the dirty areas, come out with the puck and serve it up is something I believe will be beneficial to my team and overall game. That's commendable and quite selfless! A lot of players aspire to be in the spotlight as pure goal scorers. What are your thoughts on that? Well, every team needs those guys/gals too. That's just not how I'm built from a psychological aspect of the game. Every receiver needs a passer if you want to look at it in those terms. I'm not afraid to take a shot, but I'm a critical thinker and I believe that helps me to quickly deduce if my shot is the best option or if a line-mate is in better position. So, even though the season is just getting underway, how do see The Wild in terms of the future standings? Of course, we all go in with high hopes. However, I think my hopes with this team and it's overall future are fact based. We have a lot of returning veterans who play on an elite level as well as so much new talent in their first season. I think we're a very balanced team and we're all going to compliment each other's game in some form or another. I'm looking forward to progressing with this team and seeing just how high we can elevate as a unit. Well, I think that just about sums it up! I thank you for your time and informative responses. Hopefully we can do a follow up interview in the near future. Yes! Hopefully you can buy me lunch again next week and we can talk about how my first week in the league went. Just have your people call my people! Sounds great! Until then, good luck in your endeavors with The Wild. We look forward to seeing you out there in game!
