  5. I'm actually at this point going to say whether the title is true or not. I often write the titles of my articles as a starting point and go from there. I will say that just based on looking at the Calgary box scores since the start of the season, it has felt like Strasmore is not having his best season. It definitely seems sluggish, so now let's five in and see what the stats are saying: We are 14 games into the season, or in terms of percentage, about 20% through the season. Strasmore has scored twice, earned 14 assists, is a pathetic minus 1 +/- rating, and has 44 hits with just 22 blocked shots. If we extrapolate these stats to the end of the season, Strasmore is on track for: 10 goals, 72 assists, -5, 226 hits and 113 blocked shots. So offensively, he is actually on track to have his best season. His career high in goals to date is 7 and assists is 56. However, defensively, his hits, which were a very respectable 321, would dip back down to the season prior to that, and in terms of blocked shots - well that would be a career low. So I guess you need to take the bad with the good, but the Wylde Winner from last season will disappoint many if these stats continue.

  10. In the western part of Canada, Strasmore is celebrating Wyld-ly will his teammates. Somehow Strasmore was not only nominated for an award for his last season's performance, but he won it with the BOG voting 11-0 in his favour! The Jake Wylde Trophy is a relatively new award and is awarded to the league's top Defensive Defenseman. The award was created in Season 59. It is named after Jake Wylde, a Hall of Famer who excelled at both ends of the ice, with 2,001 hits and 915 shots blocked along with 560 points in an eight-season career spanning S38 to S45. This is the first time since he good friend, teammate, and powerplay linemate @Rhynex Entertainment won it in Season 83. Johnson had career stats in points hits and blocked shots and even though he was happy with his defensive play - he never ever even expected to be considered for the honour. He had a statline of 7G 56A 63P +2 321H 173SB. Very decent defnesively and has mentioned several times he wants to maintain those numbers at the very least. Directly comparing himself in hits and shots blocked to Wylde, Strasmore has finished 4 seasons - half of what Wylde's career length was and has amassed 894 hits and 560 blocked shots. Extrapolate that rate and he's looking at 1788 hits and 1120 shots blocked - pretty comparable - IF he can keep up the pace!
  11. 100% support this! Bad teams: get gud. Summers: take a fucking break, jeez.
  12. Hey! Strasmore showed up for one game and we won! Inconsiderate prick!
  13. The title isn't correct. Maybe it's clickbait. Don't click the link... oh, too late. Strasmore is entering his fifth of nine VHL seasons. He's surpassed 1000TPE and is banking on and for the future. The big defenseman, who decided to skip the VHLE is set on keeping his attributes at the same level for the remainder of his career, and so he's responsibly holding onto those earned points to fend off depreciation. This will be the first time that Phil Knight's players will take on a ninth season, where his client will be hit with back to back 12% depreciations in his final two of his career. It's going to be a lot of TPE to be regained, but between some depreciation fighters and starting to bank now, he should be close to keeping up and avoiding too big of a decline. Is this a premeditated move to attempt to sway Calgary GM @Ricer13 into keeping him as a member of the Wranglers for all 9 seasons? Maybe. Yes. Well maybe. He'll honestly do anything for the betterment of the club, but yes, maybe. I am not sure how many words we are at, but it seems around 150. Strasmore will attempt to get 75 apples, 10+ goals, and more hits and blocked shots than last season. if he can and then maintain those levels, he will actually have had a great career. So far, it's not been amazing, but he did help win a Cup, the highlight of the year!
  14. Strasmore Looks to Future Welcome to my Fan590 article turned Media Spot. I must admit I have been delinquent in my point task duties, but it is really hard to be motivated to put the effort in when I'm just an old fart that I can get 5TPE from Welfare. So for the lack of 1TPE, I'd rather spend more time with my son. However, today I am bored at work so here we are! Now, onto the topic of today: Phil Strasmore. Strasmore is entering his fifth season, which theoretically should be the pinnacle of his career. He has been steadily gaining TPE up until this point in his career and has topped over 1000! Now, he must brace himself for the very long and devastating road of depreciation. Due to the fact that he did not participate in the VHLE when he had the chance, it means that he will depreciate for the next 4 seasons after this one. The last two of his career at a whopping 12%. This means that if he and his player agent are fine with his attributes, he will start immediately banking for the long haul. Before we take a look at that, let's first take a look at his career performance. The Big Man has spent his career in Calgary, who have been one of the league's best in that time, and even won a Cup last season. The defenseman hasn't done too much offensively. He has yet to get into double digits for goals, scoring 2 in his rookie season and then 6, 7, and 7, respectively. But Strasmore has always touted himself to be a play maker. Last season he recorded a career high of 57 assists, and is looking to break out and earn 75 this season - a daunting task for him. Defensively, he has steadily increased his performance, each season recording more hits and more shots blocked than the last, with last season hitting 321 opponents and stopping 173 shots. These are great numbers that he would like to improve on this season and fight to maintain for the rest of his career. Now looking at his attributes (STHS of course!), his highest stat is defense, which makes perfect sense, sitting at a 90! Passing is right behind it with 89, puck handling and skating at 88 and checking a mere 87, but from his top attributes you can tell this man is a defensive powerhouse with a propensity to distribute the puck. "I think that with those attributes, Strasmore can definitely leave a mark on the league," says his player agent - Builder HoF inductee Phil Knight. "He has the makings of a great defender. He just needs to be paired up with the right combination of scorers and he can attempt to snag a Beketov Trophy even. There's no doubt that he has that ability. But he's also the type of player that helps out his netminder a lot too. Therein lies his true quality and value." I do not have my depreciation calculator on hand at this time, but it's safe to assume that if Strasmore wants to maintain this level, he's going to have to earn max TPE and bank everything. Next season will not be hard to recoup but the last two seasons will definitely be a challenge. If he's lucky, and his player makes it to Christmastime, he may be able to salvage his last season or so with some nice free TPE (maybe even sooner than that for VHL's birthday!). No matter what, the road ahead will be long. Calgary is winding down its near-dynasty levels of competition and although they should remain competitive for seasons to come, Strasmore will try to help push them to at least another Cup before his VHL days are done.

  16. 1. What's up, Wranglers?! Theme week is over. Did you have any favorites among the bunch? I did not see any. Work's been kicking my butt so I've been on welfare for the past 5 weeks. It's sad. 2. The trade deadline has also passed! Were there any trades you saw that were surprising? Again, I haven't looked. I know Calgary didn't make any moves because we are basically stacked at the cap. Hoping that we end our cycle of 1-1 sims. 3. Where is your player's confidence level right now from our strong comeback? Below average to be honest. He's not producing like I expect him to offensively. Defensively he's been a tank and it looks promising, so it's not all doom and gloom. 4. Which hole against the goalie does your player love to go for? Goalies: which hole is your least favorite to defend? I like under the blocker, above the pad. My experience is that this is the weakest spot. The weight of the stick and blocker makes it slower to react that the glove side. I hate try to block high shots/tips, you never know if the puck is going to end up in your throat or face. 5. Are you watching any Star Wars this month? (May the 4th be with you!) I am not. But I am watching Succession, Barry, Ted Lasso, and The Last Thing He Said to You 6. What was your favorite game played growing up? Tabletop, video, and even physical (like tag/hide and seek) included here. Capture the flag, German Spotlight, F1 Grand Prix, Return to Zork, Ping Pong.
  17. As I put fingers to touchscreen, I don’t know what I am going to write about. I even skipped the title, which for me is usually the place I can iron out an idea. Oh well, let’s go with the flow. my schedule is currently all over the place, so I didn’t get a chance to podcast which means I am missing out of theme week TPE. But never fear, I shan’t miss out on theme week itself!! This seasons theme week is RETRO. Now I don’t know how far back retro is considered but let’s talk about grading. Back in my day, we couldn’t claim a media spot, podcast, or graphic until it has been graded by two members of the grading team. When I started out podcasting, because of the length of time graders would have to take to listen to it, these point tasks would take anywhere from a week to a month to actually be graded. Graphics seemed to be graded instantaneously, because the graders would look at it, say one line like “nice rendering” and give it a 5/6. Oh yes, we potentially didn’t get full marks on our pts. Imagine that! of course that’s when I joined the grading teams to help with the backlog of articles and podcasts. It was great tedious time. I would grade an average of about 30 articles each week. Your welcome league. Frescoelmo, victor, and I were the Og team. Dollarandadream came along and joined our gangsta crew. You kids these days have no idea how lucky you have it. anyway, I guess I found my topic for this week. Thanks theme week. You’ve done it again!
  18. 1) What did you do for theme week? 2) My leafs finally (finallllllly) got past the first round of the playoffs. Is that as far as they will go? 3) which team has been the most surprising (good or bad) in the VHL this season? 4. what’s your favourite drink? 5) all inclusive beach vacation or roughing it adventure vacation? 6) which member do you think would be the scariest to meet irl?
  19. I know this idea has happened a while back. Probably decades ago now (isn’t it insane that this is a legitimate statement?) Way back when the young Funk brother was heading up the VHL Magazine, we did have a sort of lottery that was organized and run by one of the members of the VHL magazine. If my faded memory remembers correctly, we picked numbers and the winner of the lotto would see a handy payment of uncapped TPE. Clearly the system was rigged because I never ever ever saw so much as 1 TPe from it. The Riggery still haunts my dreams. But seriously, what if we could gamble our hard earned contract money on VHL games? Especially now with the hybrid attributes and with depreciation’s harshness for idiots like me rushing into the VhL, who wouldn’t want a chance to get allll the depreciation fighters the store has to offer?!?! Realistically, unless we can automate the process through the portal, this would be a little impractical. However, maybe it can be for only certain games of the season, or have a limit of 5 games per season that you can bet on, so as not to overwhelm the system. this is me pissing in a pot here. I’m not seriously asking for this to be implemented, as I’m not giving a well thought out plan of how it can work, so don’t fret. Really I’m here for the sexy 2 TPE but this could also serve to garner some discussion about it for people would have more time to think about the legitimacy of the idea. the point is, I’m an old member and I deserve to be heard, dangnabbit.
  20. 1) what are your favourite eras of the VHL 2) what is the reason you continue to be active in the VhL? 3) seen any good movies/tv series recently? 4). name ONE player each that is synonymous with each VHL franchise? 5) if you could rename one trophy, which one and why? 6) how are your players fairing this season?
