There has been a lot of talk generated by @Tate's article over the last 24 hours. I am not here to dispute, refute, or agree(fute - damn my need for alliteration), the article. Rather, I would like to shed some light on why I stay in the VHL, if for no other reason than it's a good topic to give me my sweet TPE. No Commitments- @Ricer13doesn't need to shit himself here, but there's nothing stopping me from walking away at any point. I am a recent new dad and will some weeks find it difficult to get all my point tasks in. This is a league for recreation and so the vast majority of people will always understand that irl comes first. In my prime, I did a lot for the league. I enjoyed the platform and wanted to give back to the community. I was rewarded by being inducted into the HoF as a builder - by far the bigger honour the league has bestowed on me. But now, I feel like I can just sit back and relax and enjoy the league how I want to. The Community - whether there are toxic or inattentive members here, I won't comment on, but this is a very large community and it's got some fantastic people in it. I choose who I interact with to enhance my enjoyability from the league. I've been with this league for well over a decade so I have had relationships with some members for a very long time. That definitely keeps me coming back. The History - 12 (13 now?) years is a long time to be part of something. I have grown up with the league, as the league has with me. I've watched members graduate high school, college, get married, have kids. Even if it's not on a very personal level, I have a deep connection with the league and its members. I try to make the VHL the place I want it to be and see what I want - encouraging, welcoming, compassionate. I try to pay that forward with all my interactions.

There’s got to be a better title in there somewhere… Strasmore managed to just get to the rink before it locked its doors and got that final practice hours in. He was delayed after finishing up the holiday classic Home Alone. Strasmore reportedly got into bed before remembering about his last practice of the week. why didn’t he do it during the day? It’s because he was too busy making a list of all the Christmas movies he either had already viewed or needed to view before Christmas. There’s 34 on his list at the moment. Obviously the classics are there - Home Alone, Love Actually, National Lampoons, Elf, the Family Man, etc. He also has his animated fix covered via Arthur Christmas and Klaus as well as some of his alternative favourites like Why Him, the Holiday, Serendipity. Muppets Christmas Carol and the Alastair Sim version of the dickens tale makes it there too. All this to say that between watching these, the World Cup, and practicing, Strasmore is a busy and tired man

1. I’m not crying; you’re crying…? 2. will you slip into my DMs from time to time? 3. do you feel a sense of peace that you’ve decided to step away and you’ve let everyone know? 4. when I go inactive, I will probably just fade into the mist. Stop checking the discord and sims as often, claim only welfare and then just not recreate. Is this a bad way to go? 5. what 3 pieces of advice would you give a brand new member? 6. what would you do if we randomly bumped into one another on the street. it’s been terrific having you here. You’re doing what’s best for you and I can’t fault you for that, but you’ll be missed! All the best good sir and ill see you around!!

VHL Holiday Charity Auction call for items: 2022 Edition
Phil replied to Acydburn's topic in Announcements
Here - most "eggnog" that you buy is non-alcoholic. I add my favourite spiced rum (smells like vanilla extract) and top it off with nutmeg and cinnamon. I'll tell you all about it during the podcast -
VHL Holiday Charity Auction call for items: 2022 Edition
Phil replied to Acydburn's topic in Announcements
I never received my winnings from last from from @bigAL so this is clearly a scam. I will do a Christmas themed drunk cast - featuring lots of xmas music, past VHL Xmas events, holiday movie breakdown, and me drinking spiked eggnog, and xmas brews. It is possible that my baby Ollie will make an (ear) appearance. -
So in order to qualify for the old Jr Review/Hello Europe I need to sacrifice a season in the VHL? But did I miss something - I skipped the VHLe with Strasmore to get the full 8 seasons - do I get 8 or 9 seasons? (If it's 9, then damn! Who cares about missing that career task!!) I got confused when you replied: "One of the trade offs ultimately of getting a 9 season career, you lose out on that one career task." Thank you in advance for the clarification! Interesting idea about the podcasting! I think I'll still opted to write it though!!

A tale of two Brothers // A Captain's disclaimer
Phil replied to Daniel Janser's topic in VHL.com Articles
I heard that @Daniel Janser actually started the rumour that @Rhynex Entertainmentwas soft -
On this new series I probably won't follow through on, I will be diving into the player pages of some of the VHLs best, worst, and everything in between. I figured there's no better place to start off than with my own player, because a healthy dose of nepotism is always appropriate. So Phil Strasmore is a Sophmore in the VHL. He dove straight in there, skipping the VHLE, unlike most of the player in his draft class. This will give him an extra season, but developmentally, he is way behind the eight ball. As expected his, scoring leaves something to be desired. In 94 career games he's scored 3 times and tallied 35 points. He does have a respectable +41 rating, but that is more of a consequence of his team being good rather than he. He has hit 230 opponents and blocked 156 shots, showing off the fact that he can actually play a bit of defense. What's also impressive is that in the 94 games he has played, he's only taken 40 hits. This bodes well for him being a responsible defender. Is he still worth 3rd overall? Did @Ricer13make a mistake drafting him so high? It's still too early to tell but at least there are signs of hope! Stay tuned for maybe next week when we maybe continue this series. I doubt I'll remember to though.

1. Why do you drive on a parkway and park on a driveway? 2. Thoughts on Canada at the World Cup? 3. Still playing any PC/mobile games? 4. You have amassed a lot of TPE with Poopy! Great work! Thoughts on TPE not going as far as it used to? 5. What year will it be when the VHL enters its 100th Season? 6. The Argos won the Grey Cup! You mad?

Do people even remember where the bolded text came from anymore? I can do a drunkcast on it. I'll get FISTED ANALLY BY A CIRCUS MONKEY on it for sure but still would be great content.

Strasmore stumbled out of the bar on Friday night and stammered and stumbled his way through the press conference the next morning. It was hard to get a cohesive statement out of the Wrangler entering his second season in the league. He seemed lethargic and like it was immensely painful to get the words out of his mouth. however he basically said that he’s excited for the season and he is ready to go. We won’t even bother quoting him, since it didn’t make much sense, but he seemed generally sincere. Strasmore was displeased that we changed his press conference from Sunday morning to Saturday, probably for the reason that he was going out on the Friday night. Oh well.

1. What type of person would you describe yourself as? 2. What are your thoughts on rigging in the VHL. Do you think we ever had any? Do you think it’s possible for riggery to happen now? 3. favourite breakfast? 4. if you could get any type of animal for a pet, what would you get? 5. if we could expansion the vhl by one team in each conference, what city would you decide to put the teams in? 6. favourite feel good movie?
