animal74 1,822
Announcing the S76 Mississauga Hounds’ Team Awards as voted by the players and management: Best Defenseman Chris P Bacon Canadian defenseman Bacon sizzled all over the ice this season as he led Mississauga in ice time and led the Hounds’ blueliners in assists with 53 and points with 65 points, good for 2nd and 3rd on the team respectively. These totals were boosted by his greasy power play numbers as he was 2nd on the Hounds PPA (14) and PPP (22). He also was 3rd on the team in PIM (134), shots blocked (142) and 4th in hits (187). Others Receiving Votes: Elvis Michael, Aurelien Moreau Unsung Hero Luke Spinelli Spinelli came into S76 expecting to be incumbent starter Andrew Bowman’s backup but all that changed when Bowman was sent to Saskatoon only two games into the season! Thrust into the starting role and backed by the confidence of his teammates, the Brazilian performed solidly if not spectacular as he led all VHLM starting goaltenders in SV% for much of the season and had the Hounds in a playoff spot. But the workload eventually took its toll. Even after the Hounds disappointing last quarter of the season, Spinelli still finished 3rd in shots against (2358) and 6th among starters in SV% (0.889). Others Receiving Votes: Druss Deathwalker, Chris P Bacon, Elvis Michael, Aurelien Moreau Most Energetic Elvis Michael This Elvis left two buildings before landing in Mississauga in the Bowman trade and running the locker room party all season long. Michael didn’t let being traded twice at the beginning of the season get him down and instead saw a need on the Hounds and even switched from forward to defense. Although the stats don’t show it, Michael brought his passion every night and was the team’s vocal leader. He also contributed 18 points in 68 Hound games and recorded 103 hits. Others Receiving Votes: Miks Sunish, Owen Taylor Most Gentlemanly Druss Deathwalker In a bizarre turn of events, the VHLM’s 2nd-leading hitter didn’t get a vote for his own team’s Most Energetic award but received the most votes for Most Gentlemanly! A bull on the ice, Deathwalker was definitely a gentleman off it to his teammates, managers and rivals. Others Receiving Votes: Miles Johnson, Luke Spinelli, Kirby Pandora, Owen Taylor Most Valuable Player Druss Deathwalker, Guy Lambert Not surprising that the Hounds’ top two scorers tied for the team’s MVP award as both were instrumental in keeping the team in playoff contention for much of the year. Lambert led the way offensively for Mississauga as the diminutive center exploded for team-highs in goals (36), assists (61), points (97), shots (334, and power play assists (18). There weren’t many nights when he was held off the scoresheet and his skill and vision was key to the Hounds’ attack. Deathwalker was the brawn to Labert’s brain as the hulking winger led the Hounds in hits (335), plus/minus (+8), power play goals (15) and points (24). He really found his groove in the second half often producing multi-point games to lead the charge. Others Receiving Votes: Luke Spinelli, Chris P Bacon, Owen Taylor Hound of the Year Druss Deathwalker Deathwalker was an impact player on a team looking for an identity. He tried to be a steady, encouraging voice in the locker room full of players gathered under unusual circumstances. He was voted as one of the alternate captains and wore the “A” proudly. He had hoped to lead the Hounds into the playoffs but is excited for what the team can accomplish next season! Others Receiving Votes: Elvis Michael, Aurelien Moreau 3-Stars Award Druss Deathwalker Although Lambert led the Hounds with 8 1st-Star selections, ultimately Deathwalker narrowly won on the strength of his 8 2nd-Stars and 6 3rd-Stars for a total of 18 Star selections which were all tops on the Hounds.
