Malmo tops Helsinki

Day 1 of the playoffs came as a bit of a shock to Malmo, as they quickly found themselves down 2-0 in the series. However, in a Montreal Canadiens fashion, they managed to win 3 games in a row, and overcome the play in round that seemed like anything but rosy just a couple days ago. Then the wins started to come for Malmo. And they had a granddaddy of a game 5. 7-4 was the final, with Telker just doing Telker things. He managed a hat trick while getting the game winning goal. Dayne, Sosa, Kamenov, and Muffbeav all had multi point nights in game 5.

Malmo have a nice mix of young and old on the team, and players from all age categories helped contribute. Dayne, Muffbeav, and Telker have all replicated the success that they had in the regular season, as those 3 sit on top of the Malmo scoring lead for the post season. Sosa has been pulling his weight in this series, with a tidy 5 points in 5 games. Every game, win, or dare I say series win, is all going to be gravy for the Nighthawks. Now that the play in round is settled, Malmo have a date with Warsaw in the conference semi final. The bright side for Malmo, is that their season record against Warsaw is 4-1, so no one should expect Malmo to be an easy out.

The Off-season and Beyond

With Marsh leaving after the playoffs, and Muffbeav announcing he will be stepping away, Muffbeavs ghost should be sticking around for a while, and will still be a massive help in the years down the road. In my opinion, Malmo need to fill about 4 positions in the off-season. While that may seem like a difficult task. It may not be as hard as it seems. The bright side of this is that 3 of the 4 positions should be pretty easy to fill.

The first is the backup, and that’s no harder then finding the next best goalie in FA. As for the forwards, they’re fine hanging out and growing for now, but just one more depth piece of a 400 ish tpe guy should be no problem as well in FA. The defence is going to be a bigger hole to fill, but if they can lock onto a young ish d man in FA, maybe with around 500 tpe, then that would be a big win. I think the last piece that is needed is a stud d man, and while Sova can be that in the future, it would be a big help to get one now to help grow alongside Sova. That’s a big laundry list, and while the GM may have a slightly different version of how the off-season should go, I don’t think he would be far off from that. Malmo’s young talent should help attract middle aged and younger FA’s to the Nighthawks.

That’s it for today’s update, and to my fellow Malmo teammates, just keep on worshipping El Huevo.😁
