In recent seasons, members were used to seeing one/two deals that would sometimes involve a big player. There never was many deals for members to look over after the trade deadline day, but this time around there were many more than expected. Many teams are looking to have a big run in the playoffs and we saw teams from the European conference buying in on players. So today, the question that the Power Poll is asking this week is: Who do you believe had the best trade deadline? While I did say that it was mostly European conference making deals, that wasn’t the only case. Both New York and Toronto made moves during the few days leading to and including the trade deadline. New York, at the cost a couple second rounders and a depth player, brought in Bennett Wahl, a player from a respected player agency and a second round pick to recover one of the few they moved. Toronto on the other hand was definitely building for the future. While they did move Wahl, they also moved players that have been heavily involved with the franchise. Jack Sound and Chico Salmon went to Vassy while Jakub Kjellberg found his way to Riga and in return Toronto got their hands on a first round pick and a second round pick. They were one of the many teams to acquire a rental from Vasteras as well who we’ll touch on next. Vasteras leading up to the deadline moved many players to make room on their cap. Once they had the room on their cap they brought on David Collier, Jack Sound, and Chico Salmon, solid pieces that will lead them to a cup run. They also only gave up second rounders, not losing any of their first round picks through the trades. Finally Riga was heavy on the market as well bringing in Kjellberg from Toronto and Niklas Valiq from Riga. It came at a cost though. In what’s regarded as risky moves, Riga traded away many of their top picks from top talent. Will it be enough to surpass Davos?
