Earlier today, I was in middle of VHFL related controversy, which offered me a media spot idea. I put together a little article. In the end I wrote a short description of what I thought was going on in the other end of this little controversy. Now, in my opinion the words I used were not that bad. They are natural and common, words you might hear everywhere.  Moderators still decided to hide/remove my media spot.

Here are the two examples that were pointed out by the moderators. I have removed the words.

Example 1:

"Heart still beating fast, they get up, and as they walk towards the bed, positive thoughts circle in their head: ''you did good today, thad, you did good''. Suddenly a lamb falls. Thad accidentally pushed a lamb off the table. ''What the hell, I have a huge *censored*? VHL has not given me such a rush in months.''

Example 2:

Shaken and fearing someone will see them, thad goes back to the computer and quickly visits a few *censored* so the browsing history has something else than VHL in it. Relieved, thad starts once again making his way toward the bed. As thad is laying in his bed, he starts to feel sleepy, once more thad whispers: ''you did good today, thad, you did good'', then he closes his eyes."

Are the article and those parts in poor taste? Maybe. Is the article worthy of hiding/removing? Not really.

Not really, especially if we analyze the following podcast from a moderator:

https://anchor.fm/fishy3/episodes/you-can-feel-my-god-getting-louder-the-longer-you-listen-e1h8os0

1:08 - ''drug''

2:23 - ''shitty''

7:10 - ''shit''

7:35 - ''fuck it up''

8:07 - ''shit''

10:50 - ''fucking''

12:02 - ''Motherfucker''

12:13 - ''Fucking''

12:23 - ''Motherfucker''

12:36 - ''shitty''

12:40 - ''fuck''

12:51 - ''bitch''

12:54 - ''motherfucker''

13:04 - ''motherfucker''

13:06 - ''shit''

13:09 - ''fucking''

13:24 - ''bitch''

13:26 - ''bitch''

13:51 - ''fucking''

14:19 - ''shithead''

14:32 - ''asshole''

14:35 - ''asshole''

14:40 - ''fucking''

Let's compare.

The words that I censored above and the words that got my article hidden/taken down. Example 1: erection. Example 2: porn sites.

Somehow my list feels less severe than the list of words I collected from the moderator's podcast.  My post was removed because using those words breaks the 1.3 part of code of conduct. Take a quick look of the  code of conduct and and part 1.3. Then go check the list above. Quite funny stuff. These are the people who dare to come in and tell me to change my content. Can you believe it?

To the end some Helsinki-related commentary. The pre-season has been an exciting time. I was looking forward to seeing how this new build will work. Or well new and new, I'm still trying to be an offensive defender, but pretty much everything is worse when it comes to attributes than last year, so it's still unknown. Based on the three games, I think I played alright. I had one goal in there, which was nice. As a team we did not score too much, so that makes that goal even more valuable. Interesting to see how the next sim goes!

thank you so much for listening to & promoting my podcast, i love my fans

since you apparently prefer to have conversations in public forums instead of DMs, i'll be happy to attend the discussion.

swearing is not against the code of conduct, and context is important. i know that it's much more convenient for your argument to just look at the words out of context and try to make an argument, but unfortunately for you, mod team considers more factors than just the individual words.

you explained yourself in your OP why your first post today was hidden. considering context, i fail to see the disconnect? you keenly point to section 1.3, which explicitly prohibits sexual context, and then you seem to question why your sexual content has been removed. what's not clicking? i'd love to bridge the gap so that we can avoid situations like this in the future.

truthfully, the worst part of your hidden post was the explicit targeting of another member. that kind of content is not fun, interesting, or acceptable, and all of that is said without even stating judgment about the reason for which you were upset. that's not a matter of moderation, though; that's a matter of personal preference, so i'll let it go for the sake of this post.

i told you that we could make your post public again if you removed the paragraphs you referenced, and you chose to write an entirely new media spot. that was your decision to make and honestly way more work than just adjusting the post you already had.

i feel that mod team has given you an abundance of warnings at this point about the fact that we will not accept the kind of content you've been previously notified about. moving forward, we can certainly move forward with responses beyond a warning if the warnings aren't effective.

No problem!

I found it funny that you and the moderators walk around with the ''save the kids'' hat on after you have done swearing 22 times in a 15 minute podcast. That is the disconnect. Worry about your own content first, and then come after me.

Since we are talking about personal prefences and what is fun, interesting, and acceptable:

https://anchor.fm/fishy3/episodes/you-can-feel-my-god-getting-louder-the-longer-you-listen-e1h8os0

14:36- : ''I know how to manipulate people, I'm very good at it, and I'm going to get what I fucking want, I'm gonna......''.

That is nice.

Or is this out of context too?

Anyways, I thought analyzing podcast made by a pirate (because you swear a lot and frequently mention alcohol) from the 1650s and then comparing the results to my own article would be a fun idea for media spot. Content is the name of the game, when new opportunities and ideas come up, might as well use them.

May the winds be favorable!

Hi, user who joined VHL at age 13 jumping in

By the time I got to this league, I had heard and probably used (at least silently) every one of these anti-“save the kids” words before, as has almost everybody at that age. As for someone who started out younger than me, a person such as Gritty, yeah, maybe not the best move. I’d be all for having the podcaster put something on their podcasts that indicates that there’s some not so nice words in the podcast, but there’s nothing wrong with swearing. We all do/did it in our lives, so what’s to stop us from using it here? Also, for all this apparent need to keep the kiddos from being corrupted by the “badmins” cussing, you’re the one who posted every single swear word from an episode into a public space where all these kids can see. The irony between your grievances and your actions isn’t as bad as someone saying “Don’t do drugs kids” while he’s smoking crack, but it’s there nonetheless.

As for this hidden article, a lot of issues. First off, why the fuck would you make up all this shit about Thad doing immoral things? He’s the pastor on this website, not you. Additionally, though describing those words as “natural and common” isn’t wrong, that doesn’t mean they don’t refer to something that’s OK to say. There’s all sorts of words like those ones that we could use and get warnings/punishments for, but they’re natural and common!

And from the Coc

  • In addition to media shared, sexual content, including explicit or suggestive references to genitalia and sexual acts, should not be shared or directed toward another user. This includes comments intended to be jokes, remarks, or discussion points. Enforcement of the rule does not depend on the gender identity or sexual orientation of the involved parties, nor their relationship with each other.

Seems to me like you mighta done just that.

And lastly, the title implies that the moderators are specifically coming after your content. On the one hand, you’re not wrong: There’s not many other people out there disregarding the rules like that. However, because very few people actually go out and make sexual references, it seems difficult to believe that you’re a victim of “cancel culture” by the mods.

You are right, plenty of people of swear, but still isn't it quite hilarious for a pirate to speak to their mateys in a podcast, swearing 22 times during the process, then few days later they are cleaning the site for terms like ''porn sites''?  Look at the list I collected from the pirates podcast, compare some of the words to ''porn sites'', in your eyes ''porn sites'' is at top of the list?

I don't give a fuck about the shitty kids. I'm not that kind of motherfucker. I write bitch and asshole when I want. Is this the type of content you want to read on this site? Apparently it's fine in a podcast format, so I'm only guessing I can use at least 15 swear words in a 500 word media spot?

Immoral things? Have you seen how quickly he poached Sandstrom in front of my eyes because I was 1.5 hours late from my VHFL pick? And not only that, he also tried to delete my pick

I can't take coc seriously when I listen to moderators talk in a podcast like they are in a pirate saloon 350 years ago.

That was a mistake with his understanding of the rules and got corrected in about 5 seconds, no reason to make a scene over a mistake.

Also you liked Papa in like round 1, not a great choice anyway.

Too late at that point, gotta write when the pen is hot.

If Papa is not going to carry my team to at least top-3 finish, I will publicly blame Papa.

Okay this may sound stupid but maybe we should place content warnings in the title then for stuff with a lot of swearing like fishy podcast, sexual content is made clear it’s not allowed end of story can fight that but if the problem is fishy swearing a lot, mods can make content warnings required if the article contains swearing. It will be annoying yes. But solves the swearing problem, and for what it’s worth I think just a warning of them being nice you publicly targeting fishy here probably doesn’t help you case instead of talking with them!

I think we need a minimum swear word threshold to meet in order to claim TPE.  Like one every fifteen words.

Okay only 33 for media spots fair of 500 words 67 for 1000 and 100 for 1500, sounds fair

Fresco and minion for BOG, might be a bad idea the league may get broken down

Every swear word should contribute to a VHL swear jar, for the BOG to use for vacations, petty cash etc.

Or for *censored* *censored* *censored* ;)

Reported for censorship, new bog rules  clear states you don’t censor swear words, and most swear once a post

Cursing and swearing isn't against the COC in particular. Any other books you'd like to judge based on their cover?

I assumed cursing and swearing is something you should avoid, but now I know better!
