Rhynex Entertainment 487
S84 VHL Second Featured Game Welcome back to our weekly featured game highlights! Today we have our second featured game of Season 84 in the VHL. Our second featured game is the third game of the Season 84 VHL season, involving the visitors D.C. Dragons and the home team, Calgary Wranglers. The visiting D.C. Dragons is led by VHL superstar Duncan Idaho @OrbitingDeath , who is in his final season in the VHL, and he'll be facing against Calgary's Saku Kotkakoivu @DollarAndADream , who was Season 83 MVP and points leader. We are bound to have an exciting game for Calgary Wrangler's Season 84 Home Opener! The Calgary Wranglers and the D.C. Dragons open their first game of Season 84 by trading goals in the first period. Leandro Goncalves @leandrofg opens the scoring with his first career VHL goal 2:04 into the game for the Wranglers, as D.C. Dragons Superstar defenseman B-DCD D10 ties up the game at 13:33. Game is tied 1 - 1 heading into the first intermission, teams are playing a pretty even game with D.C. outshooting Calgary 14 to 13. Saku Kotkakoivu continues where he left off in Season 83 as he adds to his earlier assist with his first goal of Season 84 at 5:57 into the second period. This marks the first power play goal of Season 84 for either teams. The rest of the period went by swiftly and uneventfully. The Calgary Wranglers outshot the D.C. Dragons 13 to 9 in the period and leads the game 2 - 1 after 2. With the third period under way, the Calgary Wranglers turned up the heat in front of their home crowd. A showcase of magnificent goaltending follows as we have a fantastic goaltending duel between Calgary Wranglers' Ben Dahl @Ben and D.C. Dragons' Bubbles Utonium @fishy. As the game started to head toward crunch time, the Wranglers began to have an increase in offensive zone time. Shots began to fly and buzz from all directions as penalties began to lurk more often against the Dragons. Bubbles began to stand on their head as the Dragons remain in the game with the Wranglers continuing to lead by one and looking to extend on their 2 - 1 lead. It is not until the final three minutes of regulation does Bubbles finally show a crack in their iron defence. Saku Kotkakoivu scores his second of the night, once again on the power play, at 17:09 in the third period as Calgary extends their lead to 3 - 1, late in the third period. Leandro Goncalves scores his second career goal just a dozen seconds later to seemingly bring the game out of reach at 17:21. Asher Reinhart @rjfryman gives D.C. Dragons some life with a late penalty just moments after the 4 - 1 goal, but little too late as Ben shuts the door and the Calgary Wranglers win their first game of Season 84. Calgary Wranglers outshot the D.C. Dragons 25 to 12 in the third period and 51 to 35 over all in the game. Final score Calgary Wranglers 4 - 1 D.C.
