They don't come more American than @frescoelmo. GM Jordan Tonn stepped down mid-season during an unfortunate series of controversial moves surrounding the New York Americans franchise. Elmo has taken over as the interim GM. Everyone was probably wondering if this was a temporary measure, or if Elmo actually had genuine interest in perusing the position beyond this season. It's a lost season for New York, if Elmo didn't lift a finger no one would know, nor would anyone care. However, Elmo has not been quiet since taking the reigns. Shortly after taking over, Elmo made his first move for New York and it was a big one.

New York receives:

Ryan

S85 NYA 1st

S85 VAN 2nd

Vancouver receives:

Pierre Emile Bouchard

William Futch

It was evident the Americans PPG star rookie PE Bouchard was ready to move onto other pastures, so Elmo sent his S84 rookie and prospect to Vancouver in exchange for a 1st in a talented top half of the S85 draft and what will be an early 2nd rounder. They also received Ryan, who could be VHL ready next season. In this case, Elmo is hitting the reset button and has started the commitment to the next full rebuild. New York now owns FOUR 2nd rounders in the upcoming draft class.

The Americans made a last second trade deadline deal with the Riga Reign to get some young real estate, and assets from the Reign in exchange for players to help Riga's playoff push.

New York receives:

Nathan Powers

Yun Chiang

S85 DAV 2nd

Riga receives:

Jerome Reinhart

Robert Wilk

Star defenseman Jerome Reinhart will now have another chance to play for the cup as he joins the contending Riga Reign along with Robert Wilk. New York received their 4th S85 2nd round pick and a fresh chance for Yun Chiang, who has not panned out in Riga. Sometimes a change in scenery can boost a player's career. Nathan Powers may be set to hit free agency before the final season of his career, and it may be a contract New York is willing to let go in order to let the younger bucks take role. It was just a sweetener part of the deal. The point being is Elmo has stocked up New York's assets and gotten rid of some big contracts. Could this mean he is setting himself up to become the permanent GM of the New York Americans, or is he simply doing a courtesy for the person who will? Either way, we tip our hat off to Elmo for stepping in and making some waves.

Last time we had an interim GM (Jubo in Helsinki), that stayed the case. I'd bet it's the same deal here; I don't see a reason to swap out for someone else unless the interim GM isn't capable.

I hate to be the ACKTUALLY guy, but the last interim GM was Bayley in VAN after Beav left. Which did not stay the case.

ACTUALLY the last time we had an interim GM was Nyko in Vancouver after Fonzi left and that did stay the case.
