Here we are with a brand new edition of the Swiss Central Gazette for your reading pleasure. Today we are going to look at GM Kris Rice's more significant moves in the offseasons and share our view on the deals made and try to guess the motives behind the moves. This is articles does not lay claim to be accurate (or complete, as there were a plethora of deals) in that respect and the motives/ideas behind every move may completely different. We will list the trades in chronological order.

As the more observant and interested readers have noted, Calgary was facing a cap issue, mainly due to their S83 draft crop developing like studs and entering veteran status. Therefore, it was not possible to keep all players of the existing roster. There was clearly no performance issue to be found with the play of either Kotkakoivu nor Jokinen. To the contrary, both are amongst the best players in their position at the moment. Alas, the cap space (or rather the lack thereof) forced Rice's hand and he had to make hay while the sun still shone. The veteran Center and Defender were packaged and sent to Prague in return for prospect Alfred Champagne and three early round picks in S86 and S87. The S86  PRG 2nd round pick was used to draft Quinn Saint-Willes a promising Defender currently dressing for Mexico City in the VHLM. Alfred Champagne would be later traded to Davos in return for LW prospect Creeg (dressing for Rome in the VHLE) two S86 draft picks (RW Adam Rage (Stockholm) and RW Tristen Gorlim (Miami) were chosen) and a S87 2nd round pick.

With Ben Dahl missing exercise due to personal reasons, there were concerns that Calgary will fall behind significantly on the netminding side of the game. Hence, the management decided to acquire budding goaltender prospect Karl Pedersen and called them up to fill in the back up role to grow into a starter, given time.

In order to get more depth, seasoned Defender Logain Ablar and Right Winger Kakapo Bushtit were traded for a 2nd Rounder. Bushtit would later decide to enter the free market, while Ablar is now in Calgary's roster

Center Omi Aberg was acquired for a 4th Round pick, RW Bob Vladovechsenkchushkin came at the cost of S86 3rd round and S87 4th round pick.

With the above moves, the Wranglers were able to manage their cap and field a 6-4-2 squad. Portuguese Wonderkind Gonçalves will most likely lead the second formation, while re-elected Captain Janser will continue to play in the middle for the first line. His brother Marcel re-signed for another year and while clearly not as talented as his older brother, he is a servicable defender with a good price/value tag and proved to be one of the best players in the league in the +/- category.

The Albertan team has a balanced mix of seasoned veterans and young talent and will continue to compete for the foreseeable future as only one of the twelve players will face retirement at the end of the season. Omi Aberg has already announced that they will hang up the skates for good. Since he is a depth player, it should be possible to find a successor either in the own prospect pool or in the FA market, when the time comes for the veteran Center to ride into the sunset.

We will keep you updated on further news in due course.

Yup crazy that I got traded two times almost in the same week I think?

But if everyone got what they wanted, no problem with that. I joined to possibly best team in Europe, so I'm not complaining.
