Does sports betting have a place in VHL? My very rough, initial stages idea.

Recently the Province of Ontario has legalized sport betting (okay it has been a while) and as such there has been a massive influx of online betting apps that have been advertised on television during sports events. It started me thinking, does betting have a place in the VHL? Could a system of betting be introduced into the VHL that could allow people to earn extra TPE for their player? I am thinking of something that would be limited so maybe it is 1-2 Uncapped TPE each week. 

 

I have not completely worked out the details but if each person was given an allotment of 10 VHL bucks at the beginning of each week and they are allowed to place bets on a number of things like game results, 1st team to score in a game, over/under, etc., and different options would give different odds. And at the end of the week, you could buy TPE based on the amount of VHL bucks you had at the end. 1TPE would cost 15 VHL bucks, 2 TPE 20 VHL bucks, or something like that. I know it sounds like a lot of programming of an entire system for calculating odds, managing finances, allowing purchase of TPE and application to a player but it is an interesting concept given that sports betting is becoming a standard part of the professional sports culture. 

 

I fully understand that the idea I have above would be lots of work and is not fully thought out, but it is something that could be flushed out and expanded on and potentially implemented and would provide a new and unique experience as an add on to the current VHL experience.

I'll start a VHL casino where you wager your TPE. Lose and you lose the TPE out of your build or banked, straight into my banked. Win, and you get my TPE!

I like this idea!  Would add another dimension to the league but you might have to ban GMs from being able to play.  Only other thing would be the encouragement of younger members to gamble!

From a legal perspective that’s why we’ve always avoided any kind of betting system, specifically betting with TPE. Since technically donations could be seen as buying TPE it could be argued that it introduces illegal gambling.

 

It wouldn’t be a likely outcome I’m sure but it’s also not something that, IMO, is worth the risk.

The concept of earning extra TPE through a betting system adds an intriguing layer to the experience. While the details need refining, the notion of using VHL bucks to place bets on game outcomes, first team to score, etc., with varying odds is pretty cool. It's a bit like introducing a Premier League vibe to the league dynamics. Admittedly, the implementation might be a challenge, but the potential for a unique and immersive addition to the VHL is exciting.

with your luck I'll gladly take that chance, it has to be blackjack though because we both know what that means for me
