Daniel Craig is not a good Bond. He plays a decent Bond, to be sure. The series has lost some of its wit and light-heartedness, but he does a fairly good job. He just doesn’t look the part.

Furthermore, the redo has weakened Bond too much. Old Bond stops the guy on the train long before Moneypenny needs to shoot him. Old Bond is able to stop himself from going into cardiac arrest, and doesn’t need a Bond Girl to come out and save him. Old Bond doesn’t make bad movies (I’m looking at you, Quantum of Solace).

The best Bond was Brosnan. Connery tends to win these arguments because he was first, but Brosnan had the wit needed to play the character. Brosnan’s Bond was perfect, in that he didn’t have very many flaws, and that’s as it should be. Look at the scene in China in Die Another Day. He knew about the surveillance behind the screen. Craig’s Bond would have slept with the masseuse, who would have pointed a gun at his head and brought in support, forcing him to fight his way out.

In conclusion, Bond is Bond. He’s a superhero without superpowers. He’s barely human, but the pinnacle of humanity.

Old Bond did make bad movies. See: Moore, Roger.

I do agree. Brosnan >>>>>> Craig and probably Connery. I mean I grew up during the Brosnan era so may be biased.

That said, Craig has grown on me. And I think Skyfall redeemed him a lot and it was pretty light-hearted and humourous. I think he has two more left, starting with Spectre, and if the level is maintained he will go down well in my books.

I agree. Brosnan > Craig. However for many people it depends on when you grew up whether you think Connery or Brosnan or etc.. were the best Bond. Personally Brosnan was a beast and was witty. Like Victor said though, Skyfall was good and that might just be because of the storyline.

Nobody is better than Connery. Connery defined what we think of as James Bond. Everything that Brosnan did is only good because he was imitating Connery. Everything iconic about Bond was Connery's Bond.

So? It is a franchise so there should be continuity and he did a damn good job imitating him.

I really have no particular preference but GoldenEye is my favourite of the 23. Goldfinger is a close second lol. Then Skyfall. That probably influences my personal ranking a lot (though I'd say Dalton > Craig).

I never said that Brosnan was bad, he was great. Connery was just better.

I will forever maintain Casino Royale is overrated. Too dark and not enough action. Maybe good from a pure movie standpoint, but I rank Bond films on a separate scale on different criteria.

Which is pretty consistent with the books.  Fleming developed Bond as a mysterious, dark guy.  I've really enjoyed Craig's work thus far, it was nice to see them go back to the beginning with Royale.

Nice response but you never told us why. Daniel Craig is a good actor but there have been some duds in his lifetime like Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace that are scars on the Bond record.

casino royale is a dud wtf are you on

he's one of the best because he brings realism to the character, he makes mistakes and has flaws. he's not a caricature like I feel the other ones were.

He lacks emotion half the time and that's somewhat a negative on Bond. Quantum of Solace might be one of the/if not the worst Bond film ever made.
