VHL EDITION AD&D

If we were to play D&D….

Just had some thoughts into what our party would look like from the first few posters I saw wanting to join into a D&D campaign. So without adieu our party looks fairly balanced.

@JardyB10 would be….a paladin…

Jardy seems to like the role of bashing things in the face. I see him playing Warband and Ark a lot on steam and typically those are for people that like being in the action and the “doing stuff” type of games while immersing themselves within the game. Coupled with his leadership of VHL over the years I feel Jardy would likely go in with a high charisma/leadership type build so that lead me to believe he would likely be of the Paladin class. I think more along the lines of of a neutral-lawful Paladin. To him its not just about good or evil, because they both need to be governed by laws and order. Basically an all around powerful admin type.

@The Bread Man would be…warrior…

Breads kinda…there I find. He’s usually around and commenting on stuff and his player is pretty decent in Podarok. Nothing really stupid comes out his mouth yet I don’t find him to be exactly the intellectual-nerd type. So I’m thinking if he joins the campaign to try it out, it will be something simple and fun to play at first. I think he’ll like being able to kill shit and get cool gear and items to chop other people with but doesn’t want to be a specialist or have to do anything overly complex. Warrior it is for him, maybe a two handed one because its that much more fun to chop things down.

@Kendrick would be…a wizard…

Likely of the sorcerer or spellblade type even. I think Kendrick comes off as incredibly cynical at times and likes to poke holes in other peoples theories, statements, comments. Wizard types love doing that because most of the time, they know more stuff than other people. But I can’t imagine him liking being a frail guy so I think if he played, he’d go a sorc or spellblade which would allow him a little bit more access to close combat fighting and not only rely on his spells. Of course I don’t think it is likely he would join in our endeavour anyways, so he’d probably just pop on once or twice out of curiosity then retreat back to his non-nerd world or conclave in the middle of an enchanted forest. He’d probably make for a good special guest NPC I think.

@BMax would be…a warrior…

The base class and the one that likely requires the least amount of intricate conditions and/or reading. Seems pretty laid back and seems to like females so I’d put him as your normal brawler type that’s going to the tavern to chill and “where are all the girls? I want them here and I want to do them and am I drunk yet?”. He’d also have the +7 ogre sword of slaying so he’d be a good frontline fighter that we could use in the party to fight off orcs and goblins.

@Mr. Power would be…a rogue/assassin…

Or something of similar type. He has played before and I just can’t see him as the warrior type, as he seems to like a class with more utility as he likes to think up alternatives and not just follow the norm. Though I can’t imagine him playing a caster class so I think he’d be a rogue/thief/assassin type. Also despite Jericho saying that ADV has terrible rolls in important situations, it seems he didn’t really care, indicating that bad situations usually may not affect him as thief/rogue types typically have fairly good intuition for escape plans.

@R.I.P. Boom® would be…a warlock…

Well he said he had a level 20 warlock of bullshit. So….warlock it is. Honestly I don’t like when campaigns get so far that you’re high level. I’m more of a fan of low powered campaigns.

@evrydayimbyfuglien would be…a cleric…

He kind of cares, and he has played already so a slightly more advanced class seems to be down his alley. He only realy wants to play 1st and 2nd edition indicating that the later editions got stupidly complicated especially with prestige classes. So I think the class he played to begin with was already fairly advanced so he didn’t want to pile more stuff onto it.

@Jericho is the…dwarf engineer…

Not really a class I suppose but you could be a dwarf warrior specializing in exotic weapons. Hence the attempt to create a solar powered ram spike. Sounds like an inventor class but I don’t believe there are any of them in the earlier editions. Plus as a dwarf he loves complaining about other people (ie ADV).

@Advantage would be…the mage…

Judging from his ability to fire back a whippy comment back at Jericho, like how he flings magic missiles at enemies. Also considering hes probably unclutch in situations of interest, its highly likely that his most important spells failed their cast rolls during situations where a fireball would’ve been really handy except he fired and missed right into the water pool next to the ice giant.

What do I like playing myself? I typically like playing manipulators or grifters of sorts, so something like a female rogue specialization with seduction and charisma. Kind of like the Black Widow type character usually.

Definitely a good analysis on my part! I do in fact like getting in the shit and hitting people, with little regards to good or evil.

Although the characters I play in video game RPGs (like Warband, Skyrim, Dragon Age, etc.) are generally chaotic neutral, sometimes bordering evil. Dual wielding when possible! I'm all about saving the planet for the greater good, but I'm not above randomly stabbing an innocent person in the face for giving me sass, or just being ugly, or no longer being essential to any quests.

But hard ass leader paladin fits my VHL ruling style, so I like it!

Lol you're the only one I have on my steam friends list so I actually could look to see what games you like to play and went from there.

When you've seen one dwarf, you've seen them all. I just pulled it from "dwarf engineer" google search lol.

I mean, obviously that was the insinuation but I was wanting more info on the story.

I don't know how much of a story there is. The SHL founder and former VHL pilgrim once upon a time disappeared from the league. Then I think someone dug him up on the Florida sex offenders list that showed his charges and mug shot and whathaveyou. Which I also took the liberty of re-digging up, and it looks like he got busted once for possession of child porn, and another time (almost exactly a year ago) for "producing, directing, or promoting" it. It also says he was deported! Which I didn't even know he was an immigrant. And that doesn't seem like a responsible thing to do to a sex offender... ("Not our problem!")

Review:

Very nice idea for an article. Very appropriate given the recent post by Jardy I believe it was. Didn't see any grammar or spelling issues. Very nice work. Would be nice to see a campaign come out of this. Preferably one I would be able to read up on since I don't think I'd actually be able to participate :(
