Axelsson Dealt to Helsinki

The offseason kicked into gear recently, with a whopping 10 trades taking place on draft day.  Toronto moved towards a rebuild, marking the end of their impressive dynasty.  With Riga lacking a goalie and Shawn Muller headed to free agency, the other teams of the European Conference raced to take over the top spot.  But in Calgary, a changing of the guard in the front office also meant that a rebuild was coming.  This rebuild was sent into gear when the Wranglers made a blockbuster deal with the Helsinki Titans - sending pending free agent defenseman Black Velvet, Theo Axelsson, and a Season 54 first round pick in exchange for top prospect Jacob.

For Axelsson, this change of scenery means a new experience.  After spending his last two seasons on a Calgary team with talented players like Aleksi Koponen, Tyson Kohler, and Unassisted ahead of him, the Swede will have to be Helsinki’s top forward - especially now that Kohler and Muller, the top two free agent forwards, have both headed to Stockholm.  While Axelsson was known for his hard hitting play that got him a league-leading 381 hits in Season 52, he’ll need to turn up the offense and become the Titans’ main scoring threat if he wants to see success in S53.
