ECN on VHL Portal #4 "Surely overlooked"

Just because S66 VHL draft in coming up doesn't mean that we here at ECN are gonna focus on that as there is plenty of interesting and important things to talk about around VHLM!

So this week we will focus on something different - we will look at already drafted players that are tearing it up in VHLM and see who has the highest potential to be a dominant force in VHL and maybe win a Rookie of the Year award! So let's grab snacks, drinks and get comfy as we will focus on some of the greatest talents in VHLM!

We have to point out that people on this list are not listed by their TPE or by points per se, nor this is a list of Top anything - this is our Chief Editor's list of who he thinks is being influential on teams success in VHLM this season. And now - let's get to it!

1# Orion Slade ( @BluObieZ ) Drafted in S65 VHL draft, 24th Overall

It would be disrespectful to not mention one of the most offensively capable and influential players on League-leading Minnesota Storm.  As a true playmaker on Minnesota's 1st line, he is proving to be instrumental in allowing the best line in VHLM to produce and be well over point-a-game for each member. His most impressive stat is +/- rating as Orion Slade is +42 this season. It puts him in Top 3 in VHLM this season in that category, only to be surpassed by 2 of his teammates. To add, it is not clear who is the real MVP on Minnesota this season - it could be either Shane Mars@Spade18 or Orion Slade and we have to agree that both of them would deserve that title.

2# Denver Wolfe ( @Goonie ) Drafted in S65 VHL draft, 9th Overall

One of the best Two-way defenceman we have ever seen to come to play here in VHL/VHLM. It is a bold statement, but we all have to agree that leading a league in points for a defenceman and at the same time being in Top 10 in categories like Shots Blocked, Hits and +/- is a showing of a well-balanced player that should not have any problems of performing on the same level in VHL next season. We can only imagine how dominant next season Vancouver's defense is gonna be with Denver Wolfe. As this season Denver Wolfe is helping Minnesota to dominate VHLM, his future is his own hand and we all hope to see greatness from him in the upcoming seasons in VHL.

3# Anthony Matthews ( @Anthony Matthews ) Drafted in S65 VHL draft, 11th Overall

One of the most exciting players in VHLM this season that has been overlooked because of the amazing season his teammate, S66 most probable 1# Overall draft-pick Hunter Hearst Helmsley ( @Beaviss )is putting up. This season Anthony Matthews is showing that he can be effective on the offensive and on the defensive end. Having the most blocked shots of any forward this season puts him on an elite list of the most prominent defensive forwards in VHLM and not only that - his high IQ and disciplined play allows him to have one of the lowest Penalty minutes in the league out of all high-scoring forwards. If he will be able to keep himself on the same level and be that dominant Two-way forward, he might be able to man any VHL teams second line center position with no problems at all.

4# Sven Hitz ( @JayF ) Drafted in S64 VHL draft, 22nd Overall

This one is interesting - his skills are surely different from what you would expect from a dominant player in VHLM. He is leading all VHLM in Hits with 230 in 56 games played. That put's him over 4 hits per game - ECN crew would name him: "Most intimidating player in VHLM". His presence on the ice and ability to actively wear down opponents on ice just allows his teammates like Hunter Hearst Helmsley to be dominant offensively and not worry about getting hit as no one is having the strength to do so. There is a drawback - he hasn't contacted media in a while and many of us have been thinking if he has decided to leave media out of his playing career but even that might stunt his growth and not allow him to become a billboard star.

5# Basaraba Moose ( @Toasty ) Drafted in S64 VHL draft, 28th Overall

Probably one of the most overlooked players in VHLM this season is Basaraba Moose - with a good balance of hits and blocked shots and high +/- rating he can clearly be considered and talked about in the conversation about the best defencemen in VHLM. His upside is surely his high defensive IQ and ability to handle the puck as well as any of the forwards in the league, I would go on a limb and compare him to someone like Brent Burns in NHL (Less known competitive league in North America). His skills have to be developed and he surely has to become a better skater and probably try to work on his passing, so that his skill set can be used to dominate VHL next season.

Alrighty, folks, we have looked at this week's special edition of ECN on VHL portal where we talked about 5 overlooked players and their effectiveness in VHLM this season. Coming closer to the draft, ECN will publish an official 4 Round Mock draft that will feature upsides and downsides of each team and why it would be wise for them to choose certain players. But that will come in a bit of time - right now, thanks for reading this and we at ECN hope that you are truly enjoying our content. Till next time everybody!

Yeah, I know - but I felt like writing a bigger article - after all - I have nothing to do today soo... :D  But, yeah - Riga is looking quite promising in the future. Who knows - maybe a cup in the next 2 Seasons?
