LucyXpher 1,580
1. Well I'm a glass half full kind of person, so I think we're doing fantastic! But yeah, it'd be nice to have a bit more security in the standings, but I think our team is good enough that we shouldn't fall out of the playoff race either. It's probably more about battling for favorable playoff matchups. 2. I have no idea if my player has peaked this season or if there is more to come lol. It seemed like I started the season pretty strong, but the last stretch of games has been pretty rough ngl. But I guess I really shouldn't complain with 29 points in 39 games lol, my prediction for myself this season was 35 points total! 3. Yes, I think Red Panda @Lemorse7 is one of the best in the league! I would not at all be surprised to see them up there with the best by season's end. Also, looking up Red Panda gifs, why have I never realized they're so cute?!? 4. The strongest asset to this team is definitely @mattyIceman Kimi Raikkonen's ice cold demeanor. Nothing phases him and he's a true professional. Also his French might come in handy since Simon's not talking to me anymore... 5. Well, punchbuggy is pretty fun, although being in the European Conference and based in Riga, we fly pretty much everywhere so my fun is ruined because I hate flying and there's no punchbuggies in the sky... yet. 6. Sadly, no summer vacations planned this year. It's one of the downsides of being a semi-broke college student having to work for the summer, but on the plus side I'm almost done with college and I'm a bit of a home-body anyway so I'm not really complaining. I think I'm still pretty optimistic even though we have dropped lately- last year's cup win has given me new confidence that we can for sure have playoff success no matter what. 2. My player will improve I hope going into the playoffs- I don't like the production levels right now but it's also understandable as she plays on a team with many more instrumental players (also in her last season before retirement). 3. I think it's definitely doable and I think they'll end up 6th due to the inflated SV% of the backup goalies who played almost no games (so in reality 4th). 4. I think it's our deep forward core more than anything else, every other game it seems a different line is the big contributor and it's important to have that on a team looking to go deep in the playoffs. 5. UNO is the ultimate game in any situation and I will die on this hill. 6. Visiting Italy which is really great! What do you miss the most when you travel on the road? 1. Totally! I don't see us being caught for that spot so we don't have to worry about making it. That said, it would always be nice to move up and keep winning, even if our spot is secure. 2. We gotta get pucks in deep, get a good forecheck going, and just stick with our gameplan, you know? Um, yeah just play simple, play hard. 3. Well, we've been getting pucks in deep, establishing our forecheck, and sticking with our gameplan, you know? So uh, yeah, we've been playing simple and hard and we're being rewarded for it. 4. I believe Skor McFleury can do it! He's on my fantasy team, so he'd better! But seriously, he's been having an amazing season and with the pace he's kept up, I don't see it being impossible, though definitely not a slam dunk-- because this is hockey. 5. My personal goal for my player is to be more consistent. I think the season started well, but it was a bit slow going up until recently. I'd just like to see a bit more consistent play from my player to be more reliable for the team. 6. My bed. It always takes me a couple nights to adjust to a new bed if I'm travelling, which means I don't sleep as well and it can affect everything. ke1vi and Lemorse7 1 1 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/62047-riga-reign-press-conference/page/50/#findComment-1030540 Share on other sites

ke1vi 662
RIGA REIGN PRESS CONFERENCE June 30th, 2024 1. We had a pretty good week and currently sit third in the conference (with a game out of hand). How important is it to stay above the wildcard round? 2. We have almost double the goal differential of Warsaw (+46 vs +24) despite being just one point apart - do you think that's just some tough luck more than anything? 3. By next press conference, we will be well into the playoff round, who would you award the team MVP for this season? 5. It would be huge if we could stay above the wildcard round and avoid that altogether. I think we still have what it takes to get through even if we end up there, but it would be ideal stay out of that mess. The wildcard round can be... 2. I do, actually. I think this team is better than our record shows and there was a stretch where we seemed to be getting unlucky in games we should have been winning. But I think we have a deep team with all the pieces necessary to compete with some of the best in the league. 3. The focus for the last 7 games is just to stay consistent, hopefully, and go into the playoffs on a roll as a team, hopefully on a winning streak. 4. I think it's gotta be Skor McFleury, I mean, 31 goals so far as a defenseman and 88 points with 7 games left is a fantastic season and he leads our team in scoring by 16 points. I don't think it's much of a debate tbh. 5. Ngl, I like to follow Malmo and I'm a bit sruprised by how much they fell this past week. They were top of the league about a week ago and have kinda gone through a rough spot. That could be a team we meet in the playoffs, which would be a fun matchup. 6. I've been most surprised to see Sergachev traded to Utah. Like, I can understand why Tampa is probably doing it, but he's an incredible defender and a huge part of their team, and I'm not sold on Moser or Geekie in return so I guess we'll see what happens, but that was unexpected. ke1vi 1 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/62047-riga-reign-press-conference/page/50/#findComment-1031393 Share on other sites

It was definitely huge that we avoided the wildcard round because anything can happen there and it’s one more opportunity for a team to knock us out potentially. As a player, you just want the best chance to keep the dream alive and skipping the wildcard does that for sure! 2. I was following Moscow mainly in the wildcard round since I think they’re a lot better than their record showed this season and I thought they’d be a top team in the league this season. I wouldn’t want to be the team to face them coming out of the wildcard because they could definitely go on a run and be a scary team! 3. I’m mostly just chilling, getting some rest and trying to get refreshed for the first round. The season is fun, but it can be a grind week after week so I’m just trying to reset to be 100% for playoffs! 4. I think us rookies could definitely be a factor if we can bring our best game to the playoffs. Annie Oaks @Noodle Enjoyer in particular could be a huge player for us if she gets going in the postseason to give us some depth scoring, and the talent is definitely there! 5. after a full season, I think my most improved area is puck handling. I’ve really been working on those stick skills and protecting the puck so I don’t cause so many turnovers. 6. I think there must be at least one or two more big trades in the works before the next season begins, it seems like there’s always something later in the summer or early in the fall that catches everyone off guard. Who it could be though, I have no idea… Lemorse7 1 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/62047-riga-reign-press-conference/page/50/#findComment-1032123 Share on other sites

We’ve got some great high end veterans, some good prime players, and some nice up and comers, plus an amazing goalie. It’s just a great team top to bottom that I think can compete with the best! 2. I think one more solid defensive game where we shut them down will win it for us. This last game we allowed too many and we’ve gotta be better for Panda. So more defense = win I think! 3. I was not incorrect necessarily, lol, but I think Red Panda is our unsung hero always, just so steady in goal and the backbone of our team so let’s give them some love! 4. Conditioning is hopefully holding up! This is what you play for so if you can’t dig deep and find another gear at this point in the season, what are you even doing! 5. Hmm that’s a good question… I’d probably just have a normal day and bring it everywhere I go lol. Come on, cup, let’s go to for a run! Or just have dinner sitting across from a trophy… oh, the stories it could tell… 6. No. I want him to, but I think he comes up like 8 shy or something— 8 would be kinda poetic so he could chase the final 8 in maybe one more season before he retires. It will take a bit more discipline and a contribution from everyone. It prob won’t ever be the most spectacular goal that will make us win the game. We need to wind our faceoff, get in the forecheck and play smart. 3. Fradin because I can always count on him to sit on the penalty bench for me when I get a penalty. 4. Was doing pretty great actually was 2nd in goalie before that last game that I am forgetting about as we speak and focusing on the next one. 5. We are currently up 3-1 on Moscow in the Semi-Finals - what do you think is the most contributing factor to get so far? 2. What is it going to take to close out this series and get to the final? 3. Last week I asked who the unsung hero will be for the Malmo series. Were you correct, and if not, who do you think has been the unsung hero so far? 4. How is your players conditioning after a deep run into the playoffs? 5. If you won the cup, what would your day with it look like? 6. Do you think Ovechkin breaks the NHL all-time goal scoring record this year? He needs 42 goals. 1 - We ended up losing 4-3. That's not how this was supposed to go... 2 - We didn't get the job done. I wasn't good enough in those last three losses. 3 - Panda and Frenchie were certainly present, they were good enough to get us through. 4 - It was quite good until we lost game 7. 5 - Kinda stings to think about that now... 6 - Nope. He's so near done, he will need at least two more seasons. Steve 1,951
1. We are currently up 3-1 on Moscow in the Semi-Finals - what do you think is the most contributing factor to get so far? It looks like it was luck. Though Moscow didn't look very strong at first. 2. What is it going to take to close out this series and get to the final? I think witchcraft might be needed. 3. Last week I asked who the unsung hero will be for the Malmo series. Were you correct, and if not, who do you think has been the unsung hero so far? I wasn't here for that but there are so many players that could be the unsung hero on the team. 4. How is your players conditioning after a deep run into the playoffs? I feel like I was whipped like a rented mule. 5. If you won the cup, what would your day with it look like? I did win the cup but got traded before I got my day with the cup, go figure. 6. Do you think Ovechkin breaks the NHL all-time goal scoring record this year? He needs 42 goals. I don't know but I really like him and hope he breaks it. What type of lessons do you learn from losing a 3-1 series lead in the playoffs? 3.Moscow went onto win the whole thing, does it make you feel a bit better or worse? 4. What are your offseason plans - taking any vacations? 5. Did you have any injuries bothering you in the playoffs? 6. Are you watching much of the summer Olympics this year? I’d call it somewhere in between honestly- I can’t be mad at a conference finals run, and one that was barely lost, but it also feels like a chance that slipped away, especially for players like St-Louis and The Frenchman who returned to Riga for one last shot at the cup before retirement. 2. You learn to respect your opponent more, to not let your foot off the gas early, and to wait to celebrate. Even if you did all those already, it feels like you didn’t do enough. 3. It doesn’t make me feel better or worse about our performance; we had a chokehold on that series. I did really want Moscow to win vs Toronto though and am happy for Spartan and the Menace. 4. Offseason plans are to be involved in the JST and Pro-Am as well as GM the world juniors! 5. I wish I could place the blame on injuries but I was healthy as could be. 6. I always watch the Olympics- it produces so many good moments and it’s a nice little patriotic period of time. Winter Games >>>>>> though. I wasn't on this team last season, but I would say that Riga was a true competitor throughout the season. 2. The Moscow/Riga series was the most intense in the entire playoffs. It could have gone either way. 3. Moscow winning the cup was keeping it the EU at least. 4. No plans other than relaxing, I live a simple life. 5. I was black and blue from head to toes after the beating I got during the playoff run. 6. Not at all. The Olympics are not what they used to be. I do watch the winter Olympics though.
