Sweden -- After a successful cup win for Davos and second-year winger, Otto Axelsson, we managed to get a few minutes with the quiet Swede and pick his brain. The Toe-drag Rag: So Otto, tell us how it feels to win the Cup? Otto Axelsson: Uh, well it was a lot of fun. I did not expect to get to this level in the first season, we expected to be a season or two away from being contenders. TDR: Do you feel that you guys can do it next season? OA: Absolutely. We have a bunch of guys with experience and we also have some young hungry guys who want to win. I was not on the team but I was a prospect of Seattle when they won the cup but Gabe was up and he brings that knowledge with him. TDR: What about you personally? Will you be ready to bring it next season? OA: Yes. I did much better in my second season and my third season will see me breakout. I have faith that my training will allow me to become a go-to guy for the Dynamo. TDR: Ok, well thank you for your time and we look forward to hearing from you again soon. OA: Thank you for the meeting and I look forward to reading this soon.

Thanks for the breakdown. Guess the morale of the story is to triple check things every game.

I thought GMs submitted their own lines, why have we seen so many issues these playoffs?

Holy balls, what a season. Definitely did not expect this, good playoffs all!
-
Definitely steroids, much scandal I sense in your future

I would just pass if Kovalchuk was my only option.

Dear Mom and Dad, I write to you from the wonderful wooden desk that the two of you gifted me; I have placed the desk situated under the window in my living room that overlooks the park across the street. I quite enjoy this view and when the weather permits, I enjoy having the window open. The sounds of life gently reach my ears and the smell of the trees or sometimes fresh cut grass, waft up and fill my nostrils and it sends me into peaceful thoughts. Look at me, I am rambling and I have forgotten the purpose of my letter. I know Dad has been watching my games on the television as he sends me texts after each one, and I am sure he has excitedly told you all the scores after each one. I cannot believe that my team is in the finals. I cannot believe that we have forced a game 7 in the finals. I am beyond excited for this chance to be crowned a champion and yet, I can feel the nerves in my body and I feel like I will be ill some moments. I am unsure if you two remember but the team we are playing, the Calgary Wranglers, is the team that drafted me several seasons ago. The manager saw something in me and took a chance on me but I was unable to reward his faith and I let him down. I am happy to see that the team is still well built despite the fact that I was a disappointment but I fear that I may disappoint their manager one more time; if I can hoist the cup over my head at his expense I feel that it will be another blow felt. We have yet to win two games in a row against the Wranglers and we have been having a difficult time solving Norris Stopko, their world-class goaltender. Stopko has been a virtual brick wall in net and even though we boast a deep team full of talented players, we have yet to see him falter. I worry that his poise is too high and we shall be defeated by his calm and steady perfection. Gabe has been producing at an elite level and he tells us not to worry, if we play to our potential then we can win. I wish I could duplicate his steadfast confidence but I am too worrisome of a person. It would be easier if I were playing better hockey but I cannot seem to put all of my skills to use at once. I have a disastrous shooting percentage and though I have tried all of the tricks that Dad taught me, I cannot seem to make it work. My hope in most games is just that I do not let my teammates down or embarrass myself too badly. I wish Mom were here to show me the folly of my thinking. I shall leave you on this note as I must prepare for the biggest hockey game of my life. I will do my best preparations to ensure that I can make a mark on the game and hopefully I make you two proud. I cannot thank you enough for all of the support and love that you have shown me over my life. I look forward to seeing you after the season reaches its conclusion. Love, Otto

We are hours away from the puck drop in the S61 playoff match-up between HC Davos Dynamo and the Helsinki Titans. The Titans took the regular season series 7-3; Helsinki had the best goal differential against Davos with a +7 and were one of only 2 teams to sport a positive goal differential against the Dynamo. It would appear that this showdown is Helsinki's for the taking but let's look a little deeper at the match-up. The Forwards Davos is led by reigning MVP, Gabriel McAllister who is an absolute beast on the ice. As large as McAllister's shoulders are, he cannot carry the weight of the world on them without crumbling. After McAllister there are a few star players in The Charm and Joseph Bassolino but after that things get a little sparse in Helsinki. Gow, Axelsson and Roux, who recently announced he would be retiring from hockey after this season, make up the depth scoring and the Dynamo would need these guys all to punch above their weight class in the playoffs. On the other side of the ice is a host of star studded firepower led by Mattias Forsberg who managed to lead the entire league in scoring this season. The Titans had three other players who would have led Davos in scoring; the scoring prowess of Aleksei Federov and Jack Shephard will likely prove too much for the Dynamo. Depth scorers like Fook Yu and Shawn Gretzky provide a nice safety net that will be a tough task for Dynamo's defenders. Advantage: The Defence Defensively, Davos boasts a decently deep back end with the likes of Ko Kane, Slava Aleksi, Adam Warlock and Luca Volkov. Kane is the unquestionable leader of this group and Davos needs him at his best to shut down Forsberg as best he can. Aleksi and Warlock can bring the offence from the back end and it will be needed if Davos is to stay alive. Ay Ay Ron is easily the best defender in this series and possibly the best defenceman in the entire league. Having that talented of a player really showcases the stark difference in their other defenders. Rudolph Schmeckeldorf and Peter Quill are competent defenders but they are not talented enough to carry the team when Ron leaves the ice. Advantage: The Goaltending Shawn Brodeur is a great goalie and put up an impressive .920 sv% with a 1.86 GAA but that was still not as good as Marcus King's .928 sv% and 1.75 GAA. King was the second best goalie in the league and can hide many, many mistakes that a team might make. Brodeur has the advantage of a slightly deeper defensive core but he will need to be at his absolute best if Helsinki hopes to stave off the Titans. Advantage: In summary, the Titans have the advantage in 2 of the 3 positions and it could be argued that they really have the edge in all three positions. Helsinki has more stars, more firepower and more chance to win this series. The Dynamo really need a Cinderella run if they want advance to the finals and that means most, if not all of their players need career hot streaks right now. Can they do it? Most say no...

When I was traded to Davos I had no idea what to expect but it has been a fun season and I really want to cap it off right. Winning a Cup with the Dynamo would be a blast. However, right now my focus is on those last three games we have left to play before the playoffs come around. I have 17 goals and I would love to finish the season as a 20 goal scorer and I know it is a long shot but I know that I can do it. I have 52 points and would absolutely love to eclipse the 60 point mark but I'm not a miracle worker and cannot see myself exploding for 8 points in 3 games. I have some things I want to work on this offseason so that I can come back to the team in the best shape of my career as I strive to cement myself as an effective VHL player. Next season I want to score at a point-per-game pace but I know that is a big mountain to climb.

My fondest memory was my second season in the VHLM with Asher Donovan; I went a torrid pace and cleaned up all the awards that season. I went inactive shortly after that so I missed the bulk of Asher's career but I always look back on that period fondly.
