First and foremost, I am not a heavy discord user; I have an account, but I rarely log on, and when I do, it's usually when I would get a "hey I sent you a message on Discord" message. I'm sure that this topic has likely been already discussed ad nauseum, but in my personal opinion, I feel that Discord as a whole takes away from a lot of what made the VHL so fun [for me] in the first place. When I joined the VHL in S28, Discord was still around 3 real-life years away from being released, and I feel like at that time compared to now, there was much more discourse relating to the league happening on the forums. Don't get me wrong, I think that the league is healthier than ever, and I'm willing to [begrudgingly] admit that Discord is a big factor towards that. But for example, in three locker rooms that I have access to all of the last posts were made at least a year ago. That's crazy to me! Discord Pros: Very accessible on mobile, which in conjunction with the Portal, seems to be the way that many members access the league now More personal communication. The league originally used to have a live chat feature on the website (separate from PMs), and I know that a lot of members were big fans of it Linking of various accounts across different platforms (PlayStation, Xbox, etc.) allows members to connect more than ever Discord Cons: Lack of searchability over time. Older topics and posts eventually become near-impossible to find Can be hard to "catch up" on the conversation at a given time due to the constant chat stream I understand that the adoption of Discord has greatly benefitted the league as a whole and that it isn't going anywhere anytime soon, but I do miss the early days of my VHL career where the league discussion felt much more centralized than it does now.

What's That Racket? With Phil Sakic - Questions Thread
Corco replied to Phil's topic in Player Press Conferences
Which player from your player agency have you been the most proud of during your entire time in the VHL? In turn, which player from your own agency have you felt was the most disappointing? Provided the league still exists, do you see yourself as a member of the VHL in 5, 10, 15 years? What is your biggest regret in VHL history? What, if any, place do you think AI could have in the advancement/betterment of the league? Do you think the league will ever be active enough to have teams with 4 full lines of forwards and 3 defensive pairings? -
1. As someone who has been a member of the VHL since the beginning, do you ever see yourself leaving for good, or do the mechanisms the league has in place to make it more accessible for non-PT members (welfare, the portal, etc.) mean that you can see yourself staying in the league say, 10 years into the future? 2. What are some of your biggest regrets of your entire time in the VHL? 3. Which now-inactive member do you miss the most, and how much real-world money would you be willing to spend to bring them back?

1. They certainly could, but I would prefer that the Reapers win; it's always better to lose to the team that eventually wins it all. 2. No, not at the moment. I haven't been active since S75 so I'm still catching up on a lot of things. 3. Retroville, since it's my players hometown. I would take them to McSpanky's burger joint and have everyone try a purple flurp. 4. Bring back the Vasteras Iron Eagles, the most successful franchise in VHL history (don't look it up, its true). 5. To be honest I haven't really been following the NHL preseason yet, so I have no good answer for this. 6. Most likely the Nashville Predators. Adding Marchesseault and Stamkos is huge for them, I think they'll make a lot of noise this year.

On March 11th, 2020 (S71 offseason), I wrote an article analyzing which the chances of which VHL records I believed would and would not be broken. See below for a quick summary. GP: 648 - Sterling Labatte & Markus Lidstrom (0%) BROKEN (rule change) Goals: 599 - Scotty Campbell (0%) SAFE Assists: 639 - Scotty Campbell (0%) SAFE PTS: 1,239 - Scotty Campbell (0%) SAFE +/-: +643 & -345 - Scotty Campbell & Sam Pouza (0% & 10%) SAFE PIM: 1858 - Peter Payne (70%) SAFE Hits: 2769 - Zach Parechkin (25%) BROKEN (5x) SB: 1407 - Markus Lidstrom (50%) BROKEN (3x) At the time of making my original article, VHL players were only allowed to have eight-season careers, not nine. That being said, that would mean that most players could only tie the record, not break it. But, thanks to in-season trades, Pierre Emile Bouchard & Nico Pearce both now share the record with 650 career Games Played. Obviously Scotty Campbell's records have stood the test of time, given the state of parity in the league now vs when he racked up all of his stats. Sam Pouza's record has also stood the test of time, with only Tim Riggins coming relatively close from S88-95 with a -276 rating. Given the new max career lengths, I'm a bit surprised that Peter Payne's PIM record has not been broken. Given the state of the meta in the league since then, I could understand why a member wouldn't want to dump TPE into a player build that spends half of it's time in the penalty box. Three different players managed to break Parechkin's hit record; Druss Deathwalker first broke it in S84 with 2,882, followed by Vasile Lamb in S90 with 2,877, but Vinny Detroit stands alone at the top, finishing his career in S88 with 3,163 hits. Five separate players have broken the Shots Blocked record since my article, with the top two players all time doing so this season! David Jokinen and Skor McFleury completed their careers with 1,513 and 1,437 SB respectively. Dabnad Shaw (S83-90) and Pierre Emile Bouchard (S84-92) both completed their careers with 1,431 SB, however Robin Galante Nilsson should be considered the true record holder, as he was able to finish his career with 1,424 SB, 17 more than Lidstrom, while also doing it in only eight seasons, as opposed to all of the other record holders who needed nine. 1. I think they are better than they appear. Two of our losses have come by only one goal, a few bounces go a different way and we could be up 3-1 in this series as much as we are down. 2. Hugh has a conference call with Judy before every game. Teammates have to be notified first because things can get very steamy. 3. I'm partial to Ricky LaFleur, he hasn't had a lot of playing time as of late with Trunov in the starting netminder role, but I think he has a bright future ahead of him. 4. I don't really have any, as I've only just returned and when I was last in the league there was no VHLe. I'm happy to see that Vasteras was reborn again though. 5. The Oslo Screaming Seamen and thats it. 6. While fun as an idea, I don't know if it would be practical, as it would only add to already lengthy offseasons.

21st One Game Away from Elimination Halifax forward Steven Nichols looks to the scoreboard after the Reapers score to take a 4-0 lead in Game 4 Philadelphia, USA - The quarterfinal Eastern Conference series began with the Philadelphia Reapers taking a 2-0 lead, winning both games on their home ice, but despite taking a much-needed 5-4 victory in Game 3 at home against the top seeded Philadelphia Reapers, the Halifax 21st are now on the brink of elimination after a lackluster performance in a 4-0 loss of Game 4. Despite the lopsided series result so far, up until game 4 the 21st hung right with the Reapers, losing both games by only one goal. In order to make a comeback, Halifax desperately needs to get a better performance out of starting goaltender Vladimir Trunov than they have received so far in the series. The S96 Russian netminder has given up 15 goals on 134 shots thus far, equating out to a .888 SVPCT and 3.67 GAA. It is unlikely that Halifax will go this route given that Trunov has been their man down the stretch this season, but perhaps Halifax management may indeed explore the possibility of giving S97 draftee Ricky LaFleur a chance to start the pivotal Game 5. Starting LaFleur would be a bold move, considering that the he only made 4 starts in the regular season, to the tune of a .911 SVPCT and 2.26 GAA.

Blueliners Headline S97 Draft Class S97 Draftees Albin Aldgard, Bubbles LaFleur, and Brigitta Sandstrom Despite only being able to announce their intentions a few weeks ago, S97 draftees are already coming out in droves, with an exceedingly high number of said draftees being defenders. Of the 12 players currently declared for the draft, an astounding 8 are defenders: Albin Aldgard, Brigitta Sandstrom, Bubbles LaFleur, Hugh Neutron, John Giblin, Petr Novak, Ron World Peace Jr., and Taavetti Jokinen. Not only do these skaters outnumber the rest of the draftees 2 to 1 positionally, they are out-earning them TPE-wise as well. The entire draft class has earned a cumulative 879 TPE thus far in, with 619 of that TPE coming from the blueliners alone. Now obviously they have more total TPE since there are more of them than forwards and goalies, but they are out-averaging the other positions as well, with the defensemen averaging 77 TPE so far and the rest of the positions only averaging 65 TPE. We can expect the positional imbalance that we're seeing so far to even out over time, but for now it's certainly intriguing. Mentioned: @animal74@Acydburn@AJW@Gibby28@LastGoon007@stevo@Ahma

Early Life Born around thirty years ago in the fictional town of Retroville, Hugh Beaumont Neutron was the first-born child of a modest family. His parents, a father with no name and Granny Neutron, as well as sister Kari, were known for their steadfast values, quirky nature, and community-oriented lifestyle. Hugh's early years were marked by a typical suburban American upbringing, with a strong emphasis on family, education, avian wildlife, and community involvement. The Neutron family home was a hub of activity, with unnamed father and Granny Neutron instilling in him a sense of responsibility and an appreciation for the simple joys of life, such as ducks and pie. As a young man, Hugh demonstrated an affinity for humor and entertainment. His academic journey began at Retroville High School, where he excelled in creative subjects such as drama, music and avian studies. His charismatic presence and natural comedic timing made him a popular figure among his peers, and he quickly became known for his ability to lighten the mood with a well-timed joke or a playful prank. Family Life & Fatherhood After graduating from Retroville Community College, Hugh proposed to his high school sweetheart, Judy. She said yes, and together, they built a life in Retroville and started a family. Before proposing, Hugh had an opportunity to invest in the Retroville-based fast food franchise, McSpanky’s, however he ultimately decided against it, using the money to instead purchase the engagement ring for Judy. While making a different decision may have made Hugh wealthier financially, he certainly doesn’t regret a single thing emotionally. Their son, James Isaac Neutron, aka Jimmy, was born soon after the wedding. From an early age, Jimmy exhibited extreme intelligence and a keen interest in science and invention. Hugh's role as a father was characterized by his unwavering support and a unique brand of humor. Although he lacked the scientific acumen of his son, Hugh's enthusiasm for Jimmy's inventions and projects was boundless. His approach to parenting was unconventional but deeply affectionate. Hugh often played the role of the well-meaning but clueless dad, providing comic relief and emotional support to his gifted son. Hobbies Outside of work, Hugh's hobbies included a variety of activities that reflected his whimsical nature. He was an avid collector of duck memorabilia and had a penchant for anything pie-related. His basement was a veritable museum of duck related-oddities, including vintage wood ducks, retro gadgets, and eccentric knick-knacks. Hugh was also known for his love of classic television shows and movies. He often hosted Neutron family movie nights, where he would regale his family with humorous anecdotes and trivia about the films they watched. His enthusiasm for entertainment was infectious, and these gatherings became cherished family traditions. Relationship with Jimmy While Hugh lacked the scientific genius of his son, his love and support were unwavering. He often found himself caught up in Jimmy's high-tech adventures, whether it was by accident or through his own enthusiastic participation. Despite his occasional clumsiness, Hugh's heart was always in the right place, and his dedication to his family was evident in every new adventure. One of the defining characteristics of Hugh's relationship with Jimmy was his ability to be both a source of comic relief and a pillar of emotional support. Hugh's interactions with Jimmy were marked by a blend of humor, admiration, and genuine concern. His willingness to embrace Jimmy's inventions, no matter how outlandish, demonstrated his deep love and acceptance of his son's unique talents. Challenges and Growth Throughout his life, Hugh faced various challenges that tested his patience and resilience. His bumbling nature often led to comedic mishaps, such as when he sat on a banana at seven years old, but these moments also highlighted his ability to adapt and grow. It is that same ability to adapt and grow that led Hugh to explore a career in the Victory Hockey League, despite the heart-wrenching decision to leave Judy and Jimmy behind. Traveling on the road without his family is certainly going to be tough on the man, but with Jimmy and Judy supporting him, anything is possible for Hugh. One notable challenge Hugh faced was balancing his own interests and hobbies with the demands of being a supportive father. His whimsical pursuits sometimes clashed with the more serious needs of his family, leading to moments of tension and self-reflection. However, Hugh's willingness to learn from his mistakes and prioritize his family's needs ultimately contributed to his personal growth. VHL While Hugh has absolutely zero experience playing hockey, his agent Thomas Corcoran does. Corcoran has a plethora of VHL experience, although his most recent foray in the VHL ended in the mid-S70s with Chad Magnum. Before Magnum came Rudolph Schmeckeldorf, Eggly Bagelface, and Thomas Corcoran, all of whom were solid VHL players, but none won many major awards or reached the VHL Hall of Fame, which has long been a goal for the former Vasteras GM. Will Hugh Neutron break this curse, or just be another run of the mill player? Only time will tell.

The Good: Leadership: Hugh knows all about what it takes to be a leader. For instance, when his son Jimmy created SPF-9000 sunblock in order to block out the Sun, causing a 2nd ice age in Retroville, Hugh led a band of the other fathers in the town hunting caribou in order to provide for their families and community. VHL pundits believe that this show of gumption and initiative will translate to on-ice results, with Hugh possibly even maturing into a captaincy role down the line. Raising his son Jimmy at home, with all of the boy's mischievous and wacky endeavors, would be a source of extreme stress for any regular parent, but Hugh has never appeared to be truly fazed by this, which is an achievement in itself. Skating: Despite his gangly frame, Neutron is surprisingly elegant and graceful on the ice. This may be an unintended and surprise side-effect of his well-publicized obsession with ducks, but it is a welcome attribute of Neutron's regardless. The Bad: Size: Neutron is listed at 6'1, 150 pounds, and VHL scouts believe that listing to be fraudulently generous at best; many think that he is barely even above the one hundred pound mark, which is quite frightening for a 30 year old man, and something that scouts will definitely factor into their decision on draft day. Neutron needs to bulk up, especially if he intends to man the blueline his entire career, if he wants to succeed in the VHL long term. Separation Anxiety: First and foremost, Hugh is a family man. He is deeply in love with his wife, Judy Neutron, and also loves spending time with his son Jimmy. Since their marriage, Hugh has not spent more than a day away from his sugarbooger, and being on the road in the VHL for long periods of time traveling the world will certainly put a strain on their marriage, something that Hugh likely would not be keen on doing. Perhaps he may work out an agreement with his GMs in the future that will allow him to spend more time at home in Retroville than other VHL players. The Ugly: Experience: Neutron has not played a single game of ice hockey in his entire life. The nearest rink to Retroville is hours away, and Hugh had little time to engage in such pursuits while raising a boy genius at home. If Neutron wants any chance of making it to the bright lights of the VHL, he will have to adapt and learn the game quickly; his inexperience will be his biggest hurdle in making it to the VHL.

RETROVILLE, USA - In a bit of a stunning move today, the father of renowned boy genius Jimmy Neutron, Hugh Neutron, announced his intent to leave his quaint hometown of Retroville in order to declare for the S97 VHL Draft. The news came as of bit of a shock to family members Judy, Jimmy, and robot-dog Godard, with the latter reportedly sobbing in his backyard lab nonstop for six hours straight, our insiders report. VHL Scouts are unsure what to make of the lanky 6'1, 150 lb defenseman, with one quoted as saying "he's going to need to add some bulk to his frame for sure, but then again I'm not even sure that's going to be possible given that he is an animated character created by a bankrupt studio that no longer exists". The other elephant in the draft room is the status of Neutron's agent, Thomas Corcoran; Corcoran has not had a player in nearly four years, and has not been active for the full career of one of his players since the end of goaltender Eggly Bagelface's career in S40. Despite strong career starts from Rudolph Schmeckeldorf and Chad Magnum, both would eventually lose interest later in their careers.
