Kel got a reaction from Baozi in Season 46 Discussion (Welcome Jeff Hamilton, Pete Stockton, Cooper Supernaw, and Craig Fernzy)
Hello, welcome/welcome back to the team.
This season we're going all out because this was the season where we had three first round picks. I'm happy with these picks even though I wasn't the one who selected them. Let's try to have a good season and I'm happy to have you all here. Let's go out there this season and compete for the cup.
We're going to run an offensive gameplan, but if we don't then please realize that it's for the best of the team. So, you guys can enjoy the league more and earn more points to reach your achievement tracker's necessities that way you earn the most TPE you can.

VHLM’s Growing Pains – Europe Surging, Brampton Struggling

    European Overlords
Just as many pundits predicted, Europe is having a renaissance season in the VHLM – the Storm, Red Wolves, and Royals are all tied for points at 16 (although Bern has one fewer game played), while the Watchmen struggle to remain relevant, 9 points behind. In inter-conference games, Europe has simply dominated the competition, racking up a 19W-9L-2OTL. And yeah, a 63.3% winning rate is pretty – but it’s the way Europe, particularly Bern, has surgically torn apart some of the North American teams that really impresses me.

North Americans do have some pretty good performances against the Europeans from time to time – take the Brampton 6, Bratislava 1 match or the Saskatoon 6, Bratislava 1 match from days 7 and 6, respectively – but it’s mostly the top two NA teams picking on the single rebuilding European team. What’s alarming for the Americans as a whole are complete and total blowouts like this Yukon 0, Bern 9 beauty of a shutout posted by the the Royals, with Zach Parechkin putting up a totally absurd seven goals in a single match; the Blades getting blanked by the Storm, 0-3; or even Saskatoon getting subjugated by Oslo, in which Wesley Babiy posted a hat trick. Now, it’s worth noting seven of Bern’s games are against the anemic Yukon Rush (44 of their 53 goals come from those seven games) – but they’ve also beaten the Red Wolves, had a very close loss gainst the Lynx, and lost to the Storm.

Anecdotal evidence isn’t the best way to prove a point, so let’s take some seasonal data from the minors. At the moment, the minors have three teams that have posted one-hundred points or more from goals and assists: the Royals, Red Wolves, and Wild, with the Storm just underneath the threshold at 94. Saskatoon, ostensibly the most competitive team in North America with Brampton just behind, has put up an impressive performance thus far, even going 3-3 against Europe’s three clear contenders. They’ve been able to compete very closely with the Wolves and match the Storm blow-for-blow (2-2) in spite of their lopsided matchup noted earlier. Brampton, on the other hand, is narrowly eking out wins against the Watchmen, with a 4-3 overtime win and a 5-3 victory on Day 2. When it comes to the other three teams, however, Brampton’s 0-2-1, and they’ve even taken a 2-1 overtime loss to Bratislava.

One simply needs to look at the rosters for most of these teams for a good indicator of their success this season: as covered in the two most recent VHLM Mags, the Europeans have superior player quality and quantity in most cases. Shots for and shots against are two metrics we can use to compare team competitiveness:

Together, our three European powerhouses have a +492 shot differential, even with the Storm have played over half of their games against the America-dominating Wild. In goals for, three of the top four teams are European (with – you guessed it – the Royals, Red Wolves, and Storm in the top four).

In spite of all of this scathing analysis, it’s necessary to provide some context as to why there’s such a disparity between the regions this season. The VHLM Pick Tracker shows that Ottawa, for example holds a huge number of draft picks: seven in the first two rounds of S46, and another three in the first two rounds of S47. Even Brampton, arguably a top-two team in North America, holds three firsts in this season’s Dispersal Draft, and Yukon owns three firsts in the S47 draft. The Red Wolves have thrown all of their bargaining chips into the ring this season, as they’ve only retained two draft picks… for the next two drafts. They’ve the depth and talent to make it deep this season, but the Red Wolves of near-future seasons will have to pay for it.

In short, Europe is dominating – but we haven’t seen some matchups play out all the way. As more teams play the Wild, Bern plays a few more games (particularly against their European competitors), and the Red Wolves and Storm get their punches in against some less powerful teams, we’ll start to see more relevant standings.

    What’s up with the Blades?
The next topic that deserves some attention is Brampton’s struggles to this point in the season. Under new GM Kel, the Blades had just a couple of picks in the first two rounds, selecting defender Saul Hackett (121 TPE) and S45 prospect Maxime Deschamps (107 TPE) in the draft. With bright young faces like Chris Fekete (G, 11 TPE) and Zach Voss (D, 50 TPE) joining the roster in the past couple of weeks, it’s likely the Blades will have a mid-season resurgence if they can weather their early struggles.

The Blades just haven’t been performing statistically, however. As shown in the above graphic, they’re at a paltry +6 in shot differential this season – an alarming statistic for a team that may be competing for the North American title this season. With two solid defensemen bringing up their first line, they’re still in the bottom half of the league in Goals Against and last in Penalty Kill % at 2.73 GA and 71.88%, respectively. The only category they can claim the top half of the league in is PIM, at 8.00 minutes/game – and that’s not exactly something to write home about.

The Goals Against will settle down as the season progresses, with Fekete gradually gaining steam as he puts some practice time in and becomes better acquainted with the league. But it’s concerning that Brampton’s top two draft picks aren’t producing as they should; some small part of it can be attributed to not having support on their team, but Brampton isn’t hurting for players. They have a few solid forwards (e.g. Lee Sang-Hyeok and Jefferson Jackson), as well as a handful of defenders (Ken Anderson and Voss), among others. The question is, even if Fekete becomes a force to be reckoned with in goal, will Brampton’s skaters (defenders and forwards alike) be able to capitalize on it?

We're using our waiver priority on a UFA defenseman who has 91 TPE. He's got a good two way defenseman build, so it'll benefit the team more than any other waiver that we can possibly get right now.

Kel got a reaction from Da Trifecta in Golden Jedtsson focused on Super Cup tournament
Manhattan, NY -- The off-season’s nearly over and the Americans didn’t make as many moves as defenseman, Golden Jedtsson was expecting, but he’s still satisfied with the moves his general manager made. “We got one of the best goaltenders in the league, Niklaus Mikaelson. We haven’t spoken yet, but I’ll get to meet him with the Americans’ training camp coming up soon. I heard that one of our draftees, Biggu Kyanon was a defenseman and that he’s pretty good, so I’m excited to see him at the training camp. Our general manager has already told me that he has the potential be my defensive partner as well.” However, the whole off-season Jedtsson’s been focused on the Super Cup tournament as he’s been handed a huge role for Team Cowboy. Golden Jedtsson seems to have better his game with his recent player in that tournament as he’s currently second in team scoring with no goals and seven assists. Jedtsson has performed defensively as well with a +2 plus/minus rating and 17 shots blocked, which are all the most on the team. Jedtsson’s seven points ties him for third in the tournament for defenseman.

Hello, welcome/welcome back to the team.

We're not going to be a cup contender this season barring any moves that we would makes us cup contenders, however we should be one of the better teams in the North American conference as there are a lot of teams who aren't contending this season. We have a few returning players and that should benefit us a bit here in this conference, so I'm excited to see what we can do.

Kel got a reaction from Phil in Steven Knight returns to the VHLM
Brampton, ON -- There have been reports that the Brampton Blade’s general manager, Terrence Fong momentarily. His replacement’s Steven Knight, who's not related to the Knight brothers of the Victory Hockey League who continue to have a say in the league. It’s fair to say that Knight was a bust and never exceeded or even matched the expectations that were placed for him if there even was any. Steven Knight’s the agent of defenseman, Golden Jedtsson. He’s tried to become more known around the hockey world and he thinks that this position will bring a lot of experience and knowledge that he’ll need. Knight has found himself learning more from general manager, Terrence Fong than he has ever in his hockey career. He’s excited to take over the Brampton Blades and has told the media that he won’t stop the winning mentality that Fong has placed in front of him. Knight doesn’t want those to think that he’ll change anything that Fong has put in place and he would like to think that he could continue bringing in the amount of championships that Fong has.

    The Next Ones
    www.VHLHockeyNews.com

The Brampton Blades, since the arrival of GM Terence Fong, have yet to miss the playoffs and as a result have turned into quite the machine for developing prospects for the VHL. Utilizing a system of rotating players into the system and playing them to their strengths and instructing them on their weaknesses to address, many Blades alumni have since gone on to the VHL in large roles. Today we take a look at some of the other players in the Brampton pipeline that may possibly become the next big stars in the VHL.

    Maxime Perron
Prior to the deadline trade that sent the Brampton star center to the Oslo Storm, Perron was absolutely tearing up the VHLM to the tune of 82 points in 50 games, leading Brampton in all offensive categories. Big time intangibles and scoring skill marked this forward, whom many questioned in prior years as being nothing more than a depth player. A late round pick by Brampton, GM Fong has recently told press that Perron was one of the most impressive prospects in growth that he has seen in a long time. Perron is projected to be a top six forward in the near future, his continued growth trend could see him be a first line center in a few years down the road as well since he is still considered fairly raw but with loads of potential.

    Zach Parechkin
Recently signed and acquired off waivers, the Brampton Blades have taken a special interest in the Canadian winger whom projects to be a top six at the VHL level. Despite only entering the VHLM recently, Parechkin has adjusted to the team style effortlessly and exploded onto the scene of the junior league. With 27 points in 15 games, it is clear that Parechkin’s offensive talent is unmeasurable. Still eligible for the VHLM draft in the coming season, GM Fong expects that he will be a highly sought after commodity both in the VHLM draft and the VHL draft. Envisioned as a speedy sniper with quick hands and a heavy shot, the left wing prospect could bust into the top 5 of the draft in the near future.

    Mathieu Baptiste
The words to describe Mathieu are strong, powerful and with amazing vision. That is the package that comes with Baptiste in what is projected in the long term as strong offensive center. Considered extremely raw at this point, Brampton scouts like the tools and mindset of the big center likening him to Dallas Stars Jamie Benn. Technique in skating and attention to detail will be priority improvements for Baptiste, but he will have the next season in the VHLM to work on his game. When all is said and done, Baptiste projects as a top line center, though there are some concerns that he could fall in the VHL draft if his skating does not improve enough along with his other skills. In his limited action with the Blades, Baptiste has shown he has the vision and craft to play a larger role next season along with his ability to win key draws for his team. Baptiste is expected to be a top line forward in the VHLM in the coming year.

    Lars Siktanc
Siktanc is all about potential. Everything about him currently is either raw or underdeveloped but in his limited action with Brampton, has shown the brilliance of a star calibre player. It is only a matter of time GM Fong thinks, before he breaks out of his shell. With 12 points in 15 games, Siktanc is as inconsistent as they come, one moment he will dazzle and the next moment disappoint. One thing is for certain, and that his when he is on his game, he is as deadly as any star player in the VHL. The massive potential will be his main attraction as any team that chooses him either in the VHLM or VHL will be looking at needing to see him develop for a season or two and work on keeping his play consistent throughout an entire game. A longer term project with massive reward is what Siktanc brings to the table.

Tune in next week to see some long shots from Brampton. These are the players that could make or break a franchise as getting good picks in the late rounds is how a team builds the foundation of a dynasty.

Kel got a reaction from jRuutu in Americans and Jedtsson on a cold streak
Manhattan, NY – Times had been tough for the Americans defender, Golden Jedtsson. He’s found himself in a cold streak over the past few weeks. He wasn’t scoring, he couldn't put up any points, and to make his situation worse the team was losing. For quite some time he was on a pointless streak, but Jedtsson still finds himself with two goals and 19 points, which puts ranks him eighth in rookies scoring. Jedtsson hasn’t adjusted to the number one defenseman role for the Americans as much as the fans or organization would have liked, but he’s only a rookie and having so much pressure on him could be stressful. Also, the team’s not that strong as they’re currently nine points out of a playoffs spot with 26 games left on the season. Some fans have already started counting the team out, but there’s always time for a late turnaround. If the team can start finding their game and get on some winning streaks then they could find themselves in the post-season.

It's been a goal of mine to earn a general manager role and for a long time I've been trying to prove that I can become a general manager in this league. I'm one of those people who doesn't like how cyclical the league is and I'm trying to take a different approach to being a general manager in this league. There are a good amount of general managers who tank for the future, but that's a bad look on the league for the newer members because aren't we trying to impress the new members? After all the minor league is their first impression, so I'd like for it to be a good one. I don't think that having a team with three players that barely have any points added to their players good, for one, that makes the locker room boring and two, there won't be any actives on a team like that. General managers purposely trade away players that they claimed off waivers for picks, so they can win in the future, which means that there are a lot of general managers in the league who value winning over training and developing their prospects. I'm not like that, I think that the wins come when you've helped build great prospects where you'll be rewarded with success. If you can build from the ground up and keep doing that for more than a season or two then you're doing it right, which Fong has done. I'd like to win a championship without tanking and who's a better general manager to teach me that than Mr. Fong who did that with Brampton when all others doubted him. It'd be a great opportunity to learn from a manager like him, so that when the time's right I can control the team and continue the style of play that he's created.
