Who Knew A Bubble Tea Shop Was Fun?
 
It was a late practice and we were playing Halifax tomorrow so when I had gone back to my hotel, for some reason I felt like something sweet and cooling. So I went to this place that my Tzuyu always talked about on her instagram, some local bubble tea shop that she frequented when she was in the area. Yes I followed her Instagram. I mean who wouldn’t? She was hot and she was a star in the VHLM and well…yeah hard not to follow her.
 

 
So there I am drinking an Okinawa milk tea, which was surprisingly refreshing, cool with hints of brown sugar and the smoothness of a milk tea. Not bad I thought. The bigger thing here for me was that it was a great spot for people watching. Honestly I’m not sure why I didn’t come here earlier. This place had a special vibe and a lot of very attractive people. Not Slovenians but hey I can make do.
 
I’m a guy first and foremost, so I’m looking around and checking them out, but not in a creep way I think. Plenty of Asians for sure but then low and behold I saw Tzuyu. Of all the damn times I had to visit this place, she was here too.
 
She looked great as usual. I mean she was some kind of pop idol from overseas anyways so I figure she had to at least look the part. She was wearing a white blouse, that was light and feathery and what amounted to be a short summer dress it seemed like. Yeah… people were definitely looking at her. Guys and girls alike, probably jealously too I gather as she spotted me and waved at me before coming over to sit near to me while we were at the drink bar.
 
“Hey Kastelic right?”
 
“Tzuyu right? Hey nice recommendation on the place. I kinda like this haha.”
 
In this kind of situation though, I’m normally pretty introverted. I’ve been to bars enough so that I’d just kind of hang out there and not need to talk much to random people next to me. But this was different, Tzuyu and I had been playing against each other several times now and we were well aware of whom each of us played for, but I mean being both pro athletes, I think it just helped connect us together easier. We just begin jabbering away like old friends.
 
You know, at this point it’s hard not to notice how beautiful she is, I’ve never really seen her without her gear on the ice or in game or just in a non-hockey environment. I start to get drawn in by her eyes especially as we’re just kind of rambling about our lives and it kind of got to the point where I was really only just responding with things that I think probably sounded stupid.
 
Like how I think she is too good for hockey. Like how she is too good looking to get all scarred up from playing. Just generally random stupid things that she laughed at for no good reason to be honest. After seemingly like forever about us gradually revealing my prior history she proceeds to ask If I’ve been seeing anyone. Her surprise showed when I said I wasn’t.
 
“Well maybe if you weren’t only in 5th place, someone would’ve wanted to claim you already.” She teased.
 

 
“Wow…that’s just underhanded. You’re lucky I’m a gentleman and I’ll wait to settle this on the ice.” I countered.
 
She laughed as I tell her I’ve just been too busy and haven’t really met anyone. Maybe until now I thought to myself.
 
I’m no stranger to women, it wasn’t my first rodeo for certain but something about this all made me feel like a kid again. She flipped her hair and was laughing and leaning in close to me to talk. I was basically squeezing my leg, didn’t want to do anything that could be misconstrued as harassment given how seriously the league was protecting her from it as part of the agreement and all. I do kind of lean towards her as well though and she doesn’t back away.
 
At this point I’m leaning even closer towards her and she is turning her body to me. At some point I think we’re shoulder to shoulder and she is still moving towards me, trapping my hand between my right leg and her left thigh. I can’t help but try and sneak a look down and notice that the blouse has parted somewhat (not even sure how that happened to be honest). I can definitely see the cleavage now and she’s whispering to me how interesting it has been to meet me and I mumble something along the lines of “yeah me too” though I’m basically paraphrasing since I can’t even remember the words. Her head lowers a bit and her hair basically is what I get a whiff of as she looks around. Boy she smells good.
 
This is like being in high school again and I’ve basically lost track of my surroundings at this time.  She looked back up to me and I can feel us edging towards each other and those lips look delicious, I just want to feel them…
 
“Oh shit is that Tzuyu?”
 
God whomever said that I felt Like I wanted to just put them through the glass right now.

Tzuyu jumps a bit with a start and pulls away now at this moment as she looks around to see who has spotted her.

She’s laughing now as she see that fans have started to spot her. She looks up at me and tilts her head a bit and gives me a fake safe face. She is way too cute now and I can only just sigh in despair as she hops off the bar chair as the crowd of fans have finally started converging on our spot. She evades them, like how she evades the guys on the ice, and she’s laughing and smiling as she runs out the door. Leaving me to my thoughts.

To call them "People" is giving them too much credit. I don't talk to my family. Fuck them. I don't give them the time of day. My mom was on the phone with her as seconds before the tower fell. They won't tell me what her last words were. They won't tell me if she was trying to get out. I know for a fact they told her I was coming to get her. She and they knew I was in town. I was on my "30 cities in 30 days" party tour. So she might have thought I was coming. So her possible last thoughts were I failed her. I don't know anything. All I know I was in New York and I failed to get there.

I don't feel bad. Just question things that lead up to the tower following. I talked to her that morning. I was just getting back from a party so I was downright fucked. I heard the plane hit and i headed that way. Watching that tower fall was well... horrible. I'll just say that. I know she survived that impact of the plane. She called my mom, she even tried calling me but I was... getting head. I only found out after my buddy turned on the TV. Tried calling back and nothing. What if I answered that call? would I have been able to get to the tower in time? who the fuck knows. Thats the burning question that will pretty much haunt me the rest of my life. I'm not "depressed" or anything like that because of this. It's just haunting questions of what if. These questions only pop up once a year. The rest of the year I don't even think about it.

There have been a lot of trades, but none of them were big, blockbuster trades like we usually see every offseason. I’m not going to say the trades weren’t big because each trade has some form of significance and reasoning behind it. 
 
TRADE No.1 - (Jeff Skinner to the Buffalo Sabres for forward prospect Cliff Pu, 2019 2nd round draft pick, and 3rd and 6th round draft picks in the 2020 draft.) We all are probably thinking, Buffalo came out like freaking gang busters in this trade when in reality it was a decent trade. Jeff Skinner is on the last year of the contract he signed in 2013. Skinner probably wouldn’t have re-signed with Carolina and would probably go to free agency. Also, usually when a player is on the last year of their contract, they are worth a lot less. Since Skinner haven’t signed a new contract with Buffalo, he’s basically a rental to them. Luckily Buffalo didn’t give up too much for Skinner in case he decides to not re-sign a contract with them. Let’s talk about what Carolina got. Carolina got a decent forward prospect in Cliff Pu. Cliff Pu had a lot of injuries which really set him back a bit. He’s nothing special, but he’s a decent top 6 puck mover. Let’s not forget that Carolina is still in a rebuilding phase, firstly. They got a 2019 second round pick which will help them grab somebody decent (or possibly elite. The 2019 draft is supposed to be very deep so a second round pick is nice. They also got a 3rd and 6th round pick for the 2020 draft. The 3rd and 6th round shouldn’t get them somebody elite, but they might find somebody with decent upside. From recent talks, there was no indication that another team was in interested in trading for Jeff Skinner so the trade wasn’t too bad. 
 
TRADE No. 2 - (Dougie Hamilton, Michael Ferland, and defensive prospect Adam Fox for Elias Lindholm and Noah Hanifin) I guess you could argue that this was a blockbuster trade, but it wasn’t huge. Let’s talk about what the Carolina Hurricanes got. Carolina got Dougie Hamilton, Michael Ferland, and Adam Fox. Michael Ferland and Adam Fox were basically extras so let’s set them aside. The main piece was Dougie Hamilton. We have to question, why did Carolina trade away a quality, young defenseman for 25 year old Dougie Hamilton? Is Carolina really in a rebuild or did they just not believe in Noah Hanifin’s development. Hamilton has proved himself over a longer period of time versus Hanifin who experienced his first season in the NHL last season. I can’t go in the general managers’ heads to see what they were thinking, but I think Carolina wanted a solidified defenseman and Calgary wanted a younger defenseman to develop more.

Tzuyu – Kpop Soon to be K-Hockey?

From the land of the east comes yet another Asian based player to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Daisuke Kanou and XXX. Yet for the first time ever, not only is the VHL eligible player an Asia born player, but that it is a female.  Tzuyu is a young singer performer that has reached international celebrity status Asia that will be making her foray into a career that is completely opposite of her profession. The gamble is certainly there for her, as well as any GMs that will be looking at her come draft day. Is she likely to stick? What about her entertainment career? How will those things coincide to her being a VHL player? Let alone being a female already and at a physical disadvantage already, the possible issues arising from her as a legitimate player are never-ending.
 
Key Abilities:
 
Scoring – Tzuyu is gifted with a great set of offensive skills. With the ability to get shots through traffic, she has been one of the best players in the VHML program at generating shots on net. Her ability to change up her firing strategies has also been keeping goalies on their toes as she can pick corners as well as score in tight spaces.
 
Skating – Tzuyu possesses incredibly graceful and quick acceleration. Skating thankfully is nothing strange in Korea and she had picked it up early in between training between Taiwan and South Korea. In fact she plays the ever popular roller hockey leagues prior to her engagement into ice hockey. Excellent stride and edge control is her calling card and probably one of the abilities she has that allows her to not routinely get squished by the larger players.
 
Vision – Tzuyu possesses some of the best vision we’ve seen from a new player at her age ever. Her ability to find gaps in opposing team coverage and her teammates has allowed her impact the game whenever the puck is on her stick. With pinpoint passing and the ability to control the play, she has been able to exact precision breakouts for her team as well as quarterback the powerplay. With this she has been able to also engineer counter-attack plays with well timed steal and passes that in the split second, have caught the opposition unawares.
 

 
Key Weaknesses:
 
Physicality – No surprise here as Tzuyu is a tiny sub six foot player, she does not have the greatest strength so she suffers from being unable to handle larger stronger opponents at time. In order to counter this she has to outwit her opponents and win stick battles through guile rather than brute force. One of her key issues is winning fights in front of the net.
 
Career – As a player that hasn’t been into hockey all her life. It remains to be seen how far she is willing to take her career here. It could be something as simple as a one and done hobby attempt. Having only picked up the sport now also means she has her fall back into Kpop as something she can do otherwise.
 
Fighting – This kind of goes hand in hand with her physicality and lack of strength. She can’t fight. Simple as that, she is a finesse player. Shes never going to be able to bring someone down with her small frame, good luck even trying take down some of the VHL enforcers even.
 
Summary:
 
Definitely a mixed bag in terms of what you will get. An extremely small and diminutive offensive forward with a great pair of….hands. As well as a great mind for the game. Unfortunately it comes at a price. She is gorgeous and down right the dream of men everywhere. But that because of her look, strength and power is not in her repertoire. You’re better off looking for a defensive player elsewhere. While she can hold her own in stick battles and the defensive zone in general, she is inevitably going to lose any contest of strength in the game.
