The short answer is I'm not sure (yet). Definitely easy to model achievements, the major complexity is just figuring out the best time and way to go about checking if the requirements for challenges have been met. But it's obviously a very common system so I'm sure with some research I could get a good roadmap on that without re-inventing the wheel myself. Aside from that it would definitely take quite a bit time just to actually code all the checks for so many different types of things. There's also some limitations with STHS to consider. Like with the example you said about scoring x goals in a playoff game, that would be really difficult to do without requiring human-intervention because STHS doesn't actually store stats on a per-game basis, it just spits out the game thread and stores stats for each player on a per-season basis.

Sorry about the mixup with Games 3 & 4. I had to re-sim those 2, but conveniently it again ended up 3-1 Oslo after GM 4 so I didn't even have to rig it. My apologies. You'll all be thankful when Higgins is back for next season ?

Unfortunately, I don't really have a way to restore stats other than hoping they're similar. If I could even look at the stats I would edit the career stats on the Portal, but I don't even have the previous game threads

Fuck. It's me (I'm covering for Higgins ATM). I must have switched to the VHL file without saving after the first two. Simming both leagues is really throwing me off if nobody noticed ? What were the original results of the first two games? Jesus Higgins internet can't come fast enough

But when nobody tells me/i don't notice that the CPU plays in GM 2 until I after I sim GM 5, re-simming 4 games of both series' is going to be at least equally as worm-y. It's an unfortunate situation, at least partially my fault for not checking teams who didn't submit lines, but by the time anyone told me I don't think I could do much about it. Main problem with something like a GM challenge is that it's not possible to just re-sim a particular game or series. It's only possible to re-sim full days worth of sims, and even then only if there is a backup file at the right time to be found. There isn't a 're-sim tool', the only way we can re-sim is to roll back the league file to previously saved version. So you can't really have a system where one GM decides a re-sim has to happen that could potentially affect 3 other playoff teams. But it's also unnecessary, had I known the HSK G played before multiple other games were simmed, I would have re-simmed. But at the point when I find out with 3 more games simmed, I'm in a pretty impossible position where at least one team is going to be upset no matter what. It's also worth noting that, although not Higgins fault since he doesn't have internet atm, there were no HSK playoff lines or even end-of-season lines to deal with their backup, which contributed to what happened. As for Ottawa, I'm still not sure what the problem is? When DA sent lines he asked that I put the backup in for GM 3, isn't that what I did?

Yeah it's really unfortunate all around, I do hate to see that happen in such a competitive series. Fuck it let's re-sim the whole playoffs!

In Helsinkis case, I had no idea it even happened until it was too late (more games were simmer) tbqh. Nobody tagged me or PM'd me. So I guess that one is my bad for not paying enough attention. I believe what happened is that I had to play HSK backup at the end of the regular season and it carried over, but I must have set the right goalie for GM 1 and forgot to copy lines.

To be fair it's not really the same with NYA, I have a even harder time justifying a re-sim when a GM actually submits lines with the backup in, obviously it was an accident which really sucks, but I just loaded the lines sent to me thst day and simmed. The index can confirm they were loaded.

Yeah, I think the extra step is one of the top complaints -- having to submit your updates and then go back to apply your TPE, rather than doing it all in one and THEN waiting for it all to be approved. The easiest thing I can do to help this is notify people when their updates are approved so that they can go back and apply the TPE, I'm working on that currently. But I do also have some plans to bypass the approval process, at least for some items. I mean look at welfare - there's actually zero need for that to go through the approval queue or be 'claimed' on the forum at all. It doesn't need to be checked for a word count or anything, and claiming it on the Portal already does all the validation you need before it ever goes to the update queue - it won't allow you to claim it if you already have a PT that week and won't allow you to claim other PT's that week. So realistically it could be a button 'Claim Welfare' that would instantly give you the TPE to apply and absolutely nothing would change. Same with Practice Facility, probably predictions. Possibly job pay too with a little extra work. Other things could also be insta-improved in time if we were to incorporate other things into the portal, for example if we automated the Fantasy Zone and VHL Lotteries, TPE earned from those could be added directly to players without even requiring them to be submitted manually let alone waiting for approval. So that's all stuff I'm considering to streamline the process

Also @iRockstar, I see you haven't linked your player to the portal which also means you haven't even got to look at the actual update system on the Portal, so can't help but feel you haven't given really it a fair shot. Yes it is technically off-site, but you login using your forum account with the click of a button and stay logged in so long as your logged into the forum, so I see it as an...extension of the forum. Unfortunately having it separate is more or less a necessity, but I think the massive increase in functionality far outweighs the cost of having it separate - I mean the fact that we can update the sim in 1 minute flat is enough for me personally but there's many more benefits. I look at it sort of like the STHS index, it's almost a separate site and its an extra tab to have open, but we live with it. Regardless, I am looking at ways to at least lessen the divide between the two. Something simple I'm considering is just having a 'Update Player' link at the top of the Forum which would open a page on the Forum containing a window to the Portal's Player Management page, which in turn contains everything you need to update your player and apply TPE. Only thing holding me back on that atm is that we'd have to shell out $100 to IPB for the extension that would allow me to create such a page. Anyways, I've linked and approved you player to your account for you. I think you should at least go here and give it a try before finalizing your retirement.

I'm happy to look at any suggestions/feedback to improve things, more than willing to try my best to do anything that might improve the 'user experience'. As for forgetting things - you have your update logs where it should be just easy to look back on what you've claimed as it was to dig through your old update thread, but I guess its just that its not right on the forum like your update thread? I will try to think of some ways to remind people of what they have/haven't claimed. I would say, right now, I think the portal system is at its best when you're doing consistent updates weekly or even more frequently (i.e. as soon as you earn points). I think handling larger multi-week updates is probably its weakest point.
