INDEX Apparently I continue to have issues with STHS changing playoff settings once I start them, so I guess the first round is gonna have to be 4/7, but I will sim it quickly.

Hello all, I have a few changes to announce that will come into effect this off-season. The first two are small changes and part of our ongoing effort to simplify things and clean up outdated rules and systems. The third is a change to address issues we have noticed with GM 2nd players over the past several seasons. Removing VHL Waivers VHL Waivers is very rarely used. There was a time when it was used, mostly due to a loophole that allowed teams to release players at any point without retaining any salary, however since that was patched up it has been mostly stagnant. As well, if you actually read the Waiver rules carefully, they make little sense when you consider the VHLM TPE restrictions in place. The new rules for send-downs/call-ups/releases are as follows: A two-way contract is implied for entry-level VHL players who are eligible to play in the VHLM as per the VHLM's TPE/TPA limits, allowing these players to be freely sent down and called up. Non-entry level players are not eligible to be sent down to the VHLM. Players who are not eligible to play in the VHLM can be released by their VHL team: the releasing team will retain half of the player's annual salary for the duration of the contract and the player will go to active or inactive Free Agency. No major implications here, this is more or less just a much simpler way of handling what Waivers sets out to do. Removing the RFA Rules I've been here since S37 and not once can I recall the RFA rules being used. In practice, virtually all new draftees sign 3 year deals and the ones who don't want to sign with their drafting team are traded. For that reason, we're eliminating the RFA system and replacing it with something simpler and something that happens 99.9% of the time anyways: Entry level contracts for new draftees must be 3 seasons in duration. Players retain the option of holding out or calling for salary arbitration prior to signing, however, the player will not become a free agent and cannot sign with another team in the meantime. Again, no major implications, with the option of holdout/arbitration remaining, draftees retain virtually the same amount of power they have now. GM 2nd Players Over the past several seasons, we've seen GM 2nd players finding their way to the GM's team far too often. This system was not intended to give GMs two GM players - it was intended give GM's the ability to maintain a 'regular player' while being a General Manager. As such, we are making a small change and strengthening drafting rules around GM 2nd players to further discourage GM players from being drafted by their own teams. GM's may only create a 2nd player when that 2nd player will be, at minimum, 3 draft classes later than their GM player. (i.e. if they have an S62 GM player, they cannot create until the S65 draft class opens). A new GM player being created is not subject to the above limitation. However, a new GM Player must be created in between each 2nd player. 2nd players will be closely monitored when it comes to VHL Drafts. If a GM makes statements, publicly or privately, expressing doubt about the future of their player, subtly hints at refusing to play for other teams, or if we come to learn of any evidence whatsoever of a GM attempting to manipulate the draft in effort to draft their own player, the Commissioner's Office maintains the discretion to respond with appropriate punishments that may include, but are not limited to: Auto-Retirement of 2nd player Draft pick fines Suspension of 2nd player privileges Termination The hope here is that, by forcing a 3 season separation between GM and non-GM players, we push the 2nd player away from the GM's sort of 'prime drafting period' where they are likely to have a lot of draft picks during a rebuild. We encourage GMs to embrace the system in its actual purpose - to provide them the opportunity to have a regular player whilst they GM. The system is very much a privilege, not a right, and any abuse going forward will be met with a forceful response. Existing 2nd players are grandfathered under the old creation rules - but anyone with an existing 2nd player will have to create a new GM player before they may create another 2nd player.

@Advantage & @McWolf are hired Thank to everyone that applied, the large volume of applicants made this a difficult decision! Ultimately, since Updater's have an impact on literally every member/player, I had to go with members that I know have a good grasp on the league and how TPE earning works. That's not to say the newer members that applied don't have that already, but with this job in particular a little more experience is an asset. We'll be seeing how the Update Queue is getting cleared out with these new additions and will possibly be hiring additional Updater's soon so I'd encourage everyone to apply again then. I'm also working on figuring out some more Jobs that I will be hiring for, because I realize there's a lot of new members looking for jobs right now.

Yep, hard to believe. I was in first year university when I became blue. Now I'm about to start a real job ? A little less than 3.75 actually, I think it'll be 4 around January/Feb
-
I've been awaiting this! It's hard to believe next season will mark 20 seasons being blue, about 3.75 real life years. I've certainly accumulated my fair share of regrets over my tenure, most of which are easier to reflect on now that my actual commish-ing has waned in favor of Beketov and the Portal. But, taking the job was never one of those regrets - even if, at first, I wasn't sure how I would be received as a newer member with ties to an existing Commissioner. Once I became blue, I was surprised to see that my being Commissioner was much more a product of @sterling, @Victor, and @JardyB10 than it was Higgins and although I'm still slightly confused about how I came to be the chosen one, after all I was measly head-grader at that point, I am grateful. I would also be remiss if I didn't bring up my cohorts in the admin forum that I leaned on heavily during my time. Even (perhaps especially) when I was effectively the sole commissioner with the freedom to do whatever I wanted, Victor, Jardy, Gow Sr., and Sterling provided much needed insight and help on everything big and small - even as they faded in and out of the league over time, they provided an important level of stability and past experience that made my life a lot easier. A low-point was my summer of relative inactivity, and I owe it to @Beketov, @Devise and @Smarch for coming in and taking the reigns. In the end, it actually worked out well - I got a much needed break and came back with a vengeance that was carried out through the Portal, and the league got two more very capable Commissioner's. In hindsight, I absolutely should have accepted the help sooner but at this point that's neither here nor there. It's been long and wild ride for sure, though strangely it doesn't feel that long. Nowadays my focus is much more on the Portal and simming, something I'm more than content with, but I still got some gas in the tank. P.S. Thanks for article!

Most are 30x30, a couple are a little taller like NYA is 30x34 so that's fine too if it works better
-
Looks great @Beketov I'm sure you're on top of this/planning to be, but a forum icon & team bar would be great The lack of icon screwing up the Portal's 'Recent Games' has been driving me!

Updated all new players/signings GM's plz submit lines for next sim to get your new guys in the lineups.

I always love the re-creating process and going through the draft and whatnot, just have a hard time justifying retiring early when I did all the work on a current player. But that's why I don't get the argument for longer careers, to me, re-creating is the best part and after 8 seasons I'm always very ready to do it.

Quick note to anyone claiming this: You should claim the 6 TPE for the PT portion as you normally would under the 'Weekly' menu, and you should claim the other 10 TPE as 'Other'. It will allow you to claim the full 16 under a Point Task if you haven't claimed anything else, but will prevent you from claiming anything else due to it counting 10 of it as capped. If you already claimed it as a PT, just claim any other stuff for the Week under 'Other' and leave a note for the Updater.
-
You can edit career stats via the admin, this would be the same setup.
-
I'm working on something major for the Portal right now so I'm not going to do this right away but will definitely put it on the list for after this project
-
Looking to bring on one or two more Updaters. Pay is 3/TPE week, responsibilities include: - Monitoring the Portal's Update Queue for pending updates - Verifying links, TPE amounts, and nature of TPE claims - Properly processing pending updates by approving, denying, or editing them There is no set pay structure for this job such as "x updates processed = x TPE". The expectation is that you check the Queue regularly and do a some approving whenever you have some spare time. It's very much a team effort and obviously this is not a job where you can just do some work on Monday and be done with it for the week, it's an ongoing and never-ending task so if that doesn't sound like a good fit for you, you probably should not apply.

VHLM GMs: I just simmed some games, think I got all the new waiver claims onto their teams but not sure so let me know if anyone's missing. Didn't want to do a big catch-up sim without knowing so I'll do a bigger one later.

I mentioned this to @Advantage the other day

Right. Tbqh, I'm not really familiar with NHL AST myself and @Beketov just asked me throw that part in as I was announcing the award committee, so potentially everything I said is wrong. ? Please direct all All-Star Team questions to @Victor
