  1. Yes this was supposed to included but I ran out of time and hit 500 words. The every team gets a rep part, not necessarily the league figuring it out.
  2. Somebody once told me.....that the VHL used to have an All Star game! I believe the All Star game was implemented in Season One (though I have no proof or motivation to fact check, so we're just going to roll with it) and was in the league in one way or another until maybe Season 65 or so (and this is another wild ass guess that I have no motivation to fact check). I'm pretty sure we got rid of the All Star game due to lack of interest in watching the sims, simmer burnout concerns, concerns about "bias" in voting, and some other reasons. I would like to bring back the All Star Teams, and if I was in charge again, this is how I would do it. When Does it Happen? I ain't the sharpest tool in the shed, but I think it looks kind of dumb (like, in the shape of an L on her forehead) to have the All Star game at the end of the season or the playoffs. At these point in the seasons, you either have the playoffs themselves going on, the lottery tournament (if this is still even a thing?), OR you just finished these things and are off to the off-season. If this was during the off-season and actually simmed (more on that later), we wouldn't want that because we want to give our simming friends a break. To me, it makes the most sense to have the All Star game at the halfway point of the season. This is for a couple of reasons: Having the All Star game halfway through the season may reward players who have a very good half-season, but the player ultimately isn't good enough to usually be in contention for awards at the end of the season. Gives us something to do before the trade deadline and getting through the "slog" of the season. Tie it into some sort of theme week with "make a case for an under the radar all star player? Who Decides On the All Stars? Well, the years start comin' and they don't stop comin', so I'm not 100% on this, but I think this is the "touchiest" point of All Star Games. Historically, I believe the All Star representatives have gone back and forth between GM voting, community voting, and commissioners picking the teams (although that might just have been an old VHLM thing because I definitely remember doing that). If I were in charge, I would leave the entire process up to community voting in order to drive more forum content. At the end of the day, it didn't make sense not to live for fun, so as many people as possible should be involved in this. Now some of you old timers may be thinking - but don't you remember the BiAs that goes into community voting??? My responses to that would be: No voting for members on your own team, or the team that drafted you, etc... My other response would be - who cares this is all for fun. How is it Simmed/Presented? So much to do, so much to see, so the answer is...it's not! The players just get recognized as All Stars and that's it. No setting up a separate STHS sim file or something (too big a pain), no simming in NHL 24, EHM, or FHM (an even bigger pain and people didn't really watch). Not get your game on, go play, and that's a wrap - 500 words.
  3. Weekly reminder for @eaglesfan036 to update his player weekly rather than do one large update per season...and earn some TPE! So it's Sunday, and it's theme week. I know I should write a media spot for the extra TPE....but having trouble finding the motivation. It's only 500 words and it's an extra 7 TPE from just doing welfare, but not doing it earlier in the week might have been a mistake. Ottawa continues to be in 8th place - maybe we can go on a run and get up to 6th or so but doesn't seem like we'll have the elite talent to make a true run for the Founder's Cup. Good number of bans for multis the past couple of weeks - why do people create multiple accounts? Besides having to do a lot of extra work earning TPE, seems like a lot of work to not log into the wrong account at the wrong time, continue conversations with people on the right account, etc... Recently my wife and I have been expanding our board game collection outside of Life, Monopoly, etc... Recent good purchases/gifts have been Azul, Ticket to Ride, Carrcassone (although @eaglesfan036 disagrees on that one), Blockus, Dead Man's Draw, and Pandemic: The Cure. Any other good recommendations?
  4. 1.) The trade deadline is quickly approaching - what is your approach? Are you sitting by your phone dreading (or looking forward?) to getting a call or do you just live your life normally? 2.) We've been stuck in 8th place in the league for a while now - what is missing? How do we need to improve? 3.) Who is the biggest thug on the ice on the team and why is it WWumbo? 4.) Where is everyone? Why don't more people answer press conference questions? 5.) If you had the choice would you rather live in the 2020's or go back to any other decade? 6.) If you weren't playing hockey, what other sport would your player play?
  5. Traded was "shipped me off" or something similar - was a quote from Brovy.
  6. What are my goals with this player? Honestly - no idea. I know there's a lot of back and forth about if Checking is even useful or if the penalty minutes it generates are too much of a downside but I think I'm going for more of a two-way D build rather than a traditional VHL offensive defenseman. The upside of this player is likely to be "solid" since my days of earning max TPE, donations, etc... are way over. Daily reminder to get @eaglesfan036to update weekly and not do his once a season large update Do we still do word filters/word changes? Traded, FISTED ANALLY BY A CIRCUS MONKEY, etc... Eaglesfan brought up an old memory about Munk - I don't remember what it was that made me think of this, but one of my favorite old VHL memories was when some combination of @Jericho@Advantage@Devise found out Brovy's/Metis's (don't know what his username is or if he even had one on this site) password because it was something simple like "password" or "abc123". Old things that I do not miss: Manually posting the individual game threads Manually creating the official roster pages for newly created players Going 3+ days without sims - pretty sure this site would burn to the ground if that happened again
  7. 1.) After a bit of a slide, our last two games were good wins - what did the coach say to the team to turn things around? 2.) Would you rather have a great individual season in the VHLM with limited team success or win the Founder's Cup but not have a good individual season? 3.) Does your player have a nickname on the ice? 4.) What's an odd food combination that you like? 5.) What is your favorite board game? 6.) When is the last time you've been to a movie theater?
  8. Review: A good introduction to the top 7 goalies of the VHLM. It's always interesting to see how much a top team carries a goaler versus a top goalie carrying the team. A different era, but one of my previous goalies finished with under a .900 save percentage but still had one of the lower goals against averages in the league. Would be interesting to see a comparison done between now and the end of the season on how these story lines change. Also, if you weren't aware, you can use the "@" sign and then the members name to tag the member and alert them that their player is mentioned.
  9. Review: As someone just returning to the league I appreciate this media spot - gives a good overview of some of the earlier contenders for Rookie of the Year. It's an interesting coincidence that all 4 of them are either VHL or VHLE General Managers, though I guess it shouldn't be that surprising since these members generally are high TPE earners. I also appreciate that two of the skater front-runners seem to be two way players and are piling up both the offensive and defensive stats. All in all a good solid and entertaining media spot.
  10. I have to say - the new attribute system has been a welcome surprise. Obviously I understand the gist of it given you can see how the skills affect the STHS attributes, but I have no idea what skills I want to upgrade. It's a nice change from the old system. Outside of the "shooting meta" it was pretty easy to just add to skating, defense, and checking if you wanted to hit people. Is there even a meta now? I see a lot of talk about needing better recruitment - can anyone give me a summary of the health of the league? Obviously what happened during the lockdowns wasn't sustainable long term (and I don't think the VHL/sim leagues is the only thing feeling this - so are competitive EASHL leagues), but it seems like we're back on the right path? Are we sure all the trivia questions are correct? I've had two recently that I could swear I was correct but was told I was incorrect. I don't remember them off the top of my head and I'm not sure how (or if we can) go back to review old questions we got.
  11. 1.) After a good start, the team has been on a little bit of a slide recently - what do we need to do to turn it around? 2.) What's your history with the VHL? How long have you been here? 3.) If you were in charge of the VHL, what's one thing you would change? 4.) In the VHL or in real life, what's one thing you're willing to admit you were wrong about? 5.) Favorite new food or experience you've had recently? 6.) Would you rather live somewhere where it's cold all the time or hot all the time?
  12. Review: Enjoyed the interview and the bit about Chipotle - will expand on that later. This was a good article introducing your player to the greater VHL community and the graphic work fits in very well, especially since I think the Chipotle hockey jersey was something you created? Overall, just a very solid and entertaining article - hopefully the first of many to come! Wishing you the best of luck - except when you play Ottawa! About Chipotle - had a location open up about 5 minutes from my house and was extremely excited. This was about 3 months ago. Unfortunately, this might be the worst run fast food location I've ever seen. At some point in time, this location has run out of rice, guac, chips, fajita veggies, and lettuce. There is a hilarious google review where someone ordered a salad and wasn't told they were out of lettuce and received everything included in a salad except for the lettuce.
  13. Oh duh - my sig is for John LeClair II - so I guess I did make another forward!
  14. I'm back! After taking a 2 year hiatus (at least - pretty sure my actual activity slowed down way before then anyway), we're gonna see how this goes. The days of me being a top TPE earner are long gone, but I'm gonna have some fun with this player. "The meta" is gone and I'm just throwing around TPE willy-nilly in these new attributes, but I'm looking to make more of a two-way defenseman this time than my usual offensive defenseman. That reminds me - I don't think I've created a forward in....5 years? Was Robin my last forward? I legitimately have no idea, but I can't think who else it would have been. So what have I been up to? @eaglesfan036 and I have entered the world of competitive CHEL. He runs an ITHL team with family members and friends we've made along the way and both of us play in LG. I'm down in the CHL for my second full season, though I'm pretty sure I could have at least been in the ECHL if I really wanted to. Eags made it to the big leagues this year but pretty sure he enjoyed his time in the AHL much more.
  15. 1.) What are your individual goals for this season? 2.) What are your goals for the team this season? 3.) We currently have 5 wins or so in 6 or 7 games - can we continue this success? 4.) Who would you compare your player to? 5.) Do you have a nemesis? Another team, another player, etc... 6.) What is your players greatest strength?
  16. Because he's a dinosaur head coach who hasn't accomplished anything since W's first time in office.

  19. 1.) Seems like trade deadlines have been dead since like...S40s. Maybe we get a depth player or something but it seems like star players are rarely moved during the season anymore. 2.) Still can't believe the VHL has been around for 15 years - I've been here for around 10 or 11 of them. I spent the extra TPE improving my reaction time. 3.) A good team is a team that controls the puck more than their opponents. This most likely results in them scoring more goals than their opponents, which gets them wins. Wins get the playoffs and the Continental Cup. 4.) Not much - a little bit of training to stay in shape, but I'm a big believer in time off. While I'll watch hockey or play video games or something, I just try to keep my mind off the sport. 5.) I'm happy playing in Warsaw! But for a non-VHL related city, I think it would be cool to play in Alaska or something, probably outside. It'd just be different than what we're used to. 6.) Oddly enough I don't really listen to music to get myself going. I keep quiet and calm to concentrate.
  20. I believe 5 more, assuming I go full career...but I doubt that.
