With the VHL’s regular season nearing its end, most VHL teams and players are likely focusing on the upcoming playoffs. But some seem to have at least one eye on the more long-term future. Chicago Phoenix goaltender Jean-Pierre Camus recently signed a five-year, $12.5 million extension with potential to increase in value due to league minimum salaries. The signing prevents Camus from becoming an unrestricted free agent in the coming offseason at the expiration of his entry-level contract, and will also keep him with the franchise for the remainder of his career if he isn’t traded. The extension was announced alongside that of defenseman Matty Socks, who signed for three seasons. It’s a significant move for the Phoenix, since Camus and Socks were the first two draft picks in the existence of the franchise, at 7th and 22nd overall in Season 73. After choosing to stock up on draft picks and build through the draft at the beginning, Chicago now looks primed to make the playoffs for the first time in their history and will surely be hoping that their long-term investments will start to pay dividends in the coming years. “I’ve said before that I believe strongly in the future of this team, and the progress that we’ve shown this season has only strengthened that belief,” Camus said in a press release by the team. “The passion of the Chicago fans has been fantastic to see. From the very start of this team’s existence, you’ve been there. I want to repay that passion on the ice. This contract extension is a statement of intent: my future is here. My goal is a championship.”

1) Who is your favourite VHL blue team member? (Victor, Beaviss, Quik, Beketov) I'd say Victor. I like all of those four but I feel like I know/get along with Victor the best of them. Being teammates with Quik has been cool though, since we didn't really interact with each other before. 2) Which VHL Expansion team do you think is the best besides Chicago (London, Warsaw, LA) and why? Warsaw. I like Muff. Also Ajay Krishna is a beast and a marbles legend. 3) Chicago Phoenix is having a SECRET SANTA... Which teammate do you think would give the best christmas gift? I feel like either it'd either be gorlab or fishy - it's 50/50 on gorlab, but I feel like there's a possibility he'd just decide to say fuck it and spend a lot of money, while I think fishy would probably come up with some kind of creative theme. Unless my reads are completely wrong on both of your personalities lmao. 4) Do you think VHL should take a few days off over Christmas? What would you do with your sim league holiday time? I'm not completely against the idea, but I feel like this year with COVID and all, it's not like there are many festivities or anything. It's not like other years where people might be spending time with extended family or making a trip. 5) If your VHL player were a professional wrestler, what would they look/act like? Would they be a hero or villain? I imagine JP Camus would probably act a lot like present-day Sami Zayn. Other than that, it's hard to say what he'd be like as far as moveset or look. 6) Chicago Phoenix is thinking of getting a locker room pet dog, what kind of dog would you like and what should the dog's name be? I'll go with a pit bull since I think they're nice dogs who get a bad reputation. Let's name him Hogan.

That's especially true for the VHLM due to the dip in activity/recruitment in the 50s, they contracted down from 10 teams to like 5 at one point. I think there was a decent amount of change too once VHL and VHLM teams stopped being affiliated in like S20 or so. (Also, mark me down as another one of the people wanting Bratislava to come back. Probably the only team I really had any connection to in the VHLM.)

1. How did your thanksgiving celebration go? (Don’t answer this if you’re Canadian, it’ll be weird) Kinda underwhelming since I couldn't meet with extended family but pretty chill nonetheless. We didn't have thanksgiving dinner until like Saturday though. 2. What plans do you have for Christmas or boxing day? Not much. Just enjoy the holiday spirit, spend time with those that I can spend time with, try not to get covid, and get myself something nice. 3. Who is the best prospect on the team right now? I'll go with L. Christian Mingle too, though, if he still counts. 4. What’s your go to shootout move? I don't know about other people but I generally like to stop the shot. 5. What channel would you add to the locker room? I think a #music channel would be fun, esp considering the spotify wrapped stuff came out recently (mine was embarrassingly basic). It'd be nice to chat about music with my teammates. 6. Would we have a good shot of winning the cup by the end of the regular season? No. I'm not jinxing it.
