  1. While there are still a few games left to go in the VHL season, for Roger he has officialy played his last game of the season. Due to VHL rules, the backup will play the remaining few games. We sat with Roger to discuss his season. R: Thanks for comming by and speaking with us today. First lets get your thoughts on this season. E: No problem! While we may have missed the playoffs, we still played well as a team. As a team we won more games and got more points then last season. As a goalie I set personal bests in Wins, Save percentage, Goals against average and shutouts. So I think it was a definate improvemnt for everyone and looking forward to next season. R: You currently sit as the only player in the Eagles dynasty to not make the playoffs by your sophmore season. Greg Eagles made the playoffs every season he played, Tom and Henry only missed the playoff once. Is that a concern for you? E: All those 3 had incredible careers and were lucky enough to pretty much make the playoffs every season they played but it does not affect me. I knew comming in I would be drafted for a team that was rebuilding. It will take a few seasons but I think Los Angeles can get there. Patience is key. R: Next season you enter your final season of your rookie contract. Has there been any discussions on an extension and if given would you even consider staying considering the teams lack of success in your first two seasons? E: There have been no talks yet but there is still a full season to go. I also don't know how you can ask that question, I have been very vocal in saying I want to stay here in Los Angeles and help them back into the playoffs. It is my main goal and hopefully by next season you will see an extension. R: LA has a few draft picks in this years draft, do you think they should draft best player available or by positional need? E: As a team we need pretty much every position filled out so I would go with best available. You want to fill the team with the best that we can get and players that want to play here. That will be the main goal is to convince those guys that this is a team worth playing for and to not jump to FA at the earliest opportunity. R: Predicitons for LA for next season? E: I think it will be another building season as we try to get the draft picks from this upcomming draft accustomed to the big leagues. I don't think we will see the playoffs for another 2-3 seasons. That being said though, I think it will still be an improved season over this one. We are looking forward to it. R: Thanks for your time Roger and we wish you all the best next season: E: Thank You! Will be happy to return next season and discuss how it went
  2. The season is coming to an end in the next couple of weeks and it looks like Los Angeles will once again miss any playoff action. "I think it was a good effort from the team this season, we were a substantially depleted club based on the off-season but we still have achieved more points this season (and its not over yet) then we did last season when we had our better players "Roger said "So even though we will miss the playoffs, we played great and I think the fans saw that. We can only go up from here and improve" Last season the Stars also ended with a -76 goal differential and things look like they will be better this season as well. They currently sit at a -36. Many are wondering how with a weaker team they ended up better. "I think we were just determined to prove everyone wrong and play to our best "Roger said "I also felt a lot better in net this season and have reached some new personal bests. We are just showing that we will fight for this team no matter what is thrown at us and we hope that this will lead to future success"
  3. 1) Season is coming to an end soon, has your played lived up to your expectations? 2) What has been your most memorable moment of this season? 3) What is the one item in your real life that you can't live without?
  4. Maybe do the theme sort of like Trivia. Have the users submit ideas, you guys pick the best one and that user gets 1TPE if chosen.
  5. Roger Eagles has hired a private skating coach in order to work on and improve his skating. While his skating is pretty good for a goalie, Roger, wanting to be the best is looking for improvements in this area. "I think out of all my abilities it is the weakest and myself being a perfectionist, I decided to look on how I can improve my skating. I think I found the solution by hiring one of the top skating coaches in the country." Roger said "I want to work on my backward and side to side skating. I think if I can improve this, my game will significantly get better. I am always looking to improve and looking at tapes this is the biggest spot that sticks out" Roger has continued to play well in his sophomore season by tying his personal best in wins with 19, a personal best in shutouts with 3 and if things continue as they have been he will also set personal bests in goals against average, currently at 2.86 and save percentage which currently sits at .921 With the help of his skating coach, these stats could improve even further by the time the season winds down.
  6. A long time ago in season 18, there was a player by the name of Greg Eagleowski who played for the Calgary Wranglers. Eagleowski played only 2 seasons in the VHL, his first season with the Wranglers he led them to a cup. His second season with Toronto is lost to the history books and not much is known about his time there. Eagleowski had huge potential when he was originally drafted 5th overall but never lived up to the hype. Rumours of not attending practice, always partying and even not showing up to games damaged his potential of becoming a VHL hall of famer. For the short time he did play, he impressed with his defense and goal scoring abilities. He was drafted as a RW but by the time he won a cup with the Wranglers he was positioned as a defenseman. So who was this Eagleowski and is there any relation to the current Eagles dysnaty? We sat down with Roger Eagles to discuss. " I have heard this story handed down from generation to generation on why there was an Eagleowski. The original Greg Eagles from season 2 who got the family into the VHL (not the S67 Greg Eagles) was a goalie like me and is one of our great great great grandfathers. He was the OG in this league for our family name and is really the one who got the family interested into hockey. Now for Greg Eagleowski, I don't know if you can count him as an official Eagles but he was part of the family back in the day. Eagleowski was adopted into the family at a young age and always showed signs of excellence in hockey. He did have a mean streak though and was never fully committed even though the skill was there. The original Greg Eagles wanted to bring him into the VHL but didn't want to potentially tarnish the Eagles name for future generations, in case it all went bad with Eagleowski. So the decision was made that when he entered the league, his last name was changed to Eagleowski. This would help protect the Eagles family name and as well there wouldn't be any confusion with two Greg Eagles in the league, our family never liked to use junior to differentiate" Roger retells the story "From what I heard he was a very skilled player that could have been one of the best in the league but instead he is a story we are told of what not to do. Every Eagles member that makes it into the VHL is warned to not be like Eagleowski. The OG Greg Eagles had good sense to not give him our family name as it would be a tarnished name. Eagleowski just couldn't get it together, the money and fame got to him and the potential was wasted on living the party lifestyle. He spent a long time in the minors before he even cracked the VHL, due to that lifestyle. Many thought that once he made VHL, he would clean it up a bit and for that season he did. He instantly become one of the Wranglers favorite players and brought them a cup. As soon as that cup was won, he fell back down into the partying world and was never as effective as before. He ended up in Toronto for his last season and was just a shell of his previous self. We actually don't know what happened to him after that, we don't even know if his alive. He just sort of disappeared. Sad to see so much wasted potential"

  8. 1) What has been your biggest surprise of this season so far? 2) It's theme week! Do you like this seasons topic or if you don't what would you have picked? 3) If you could put wings on any wingless animal, which animal would you choose and why?
  9. Review: Even though you didn't feel like writing anything, I enjoyed this media spot! I don't really follow the scoring stats so its good to see an update and see how things are shaking out in the VHL. The only thing I would add is in your 6-10 roundup, maybe put their stat lines beside there name so readers can see how close the top 10. In your article we only see the totals for the top 5. Don't need to write up a full article on those bottom 5 but just G-A-P. Well done! 9/10
  10. In an unpredictable season for the Los Angeles Stars, where they may fight for a wildcard spot, Roger Eagles has been a shining spot for the future of the team. The young goaltender in his sophomore season is playing incredibly well especially for a team that is entering a re-build. Halfway through the season for Roger, scheduled to play 64 games this season, he has played 33 games so far and is putting up quite significant improvements over his rookie season. He currently sits at 14 wins (5 short of his personal best), a .922 save percentage which has been pretty steady so far (compared to .912 last season) and a current 2.85 GAA compared to a 3.37 last season. Roger seems to be playing much better with a weaker team in front of him but it can also come down to the fact he now has more experience and continues to develop his skill. "It has definitely been an interesting season and I think I am just trying to play to the best of my abilities and continue to get better for my team" Roger said "If we were in the European conference we would be a guaranteed playoff team at this point, so I don't think we have been playing bad. This team gives it their all every game and its encouraging to see especially with the way the off-season played out" Roger is currently on his 2nd year of his 3 year entry contract and many have been speculating on what he will be doing once his entry level deal ends. These last 2 off-season a lot of prospects seemed to have runaway from Los Angeles so we asked him on his thoughts. " It is still early to discuss but I will go on the record to state that I want to be here. I am not a player that runs away from adversary. This team drafted me to help them get back into the playoffs and that is what I will do if the team wants me to stay" Roger said " Other prospects ran away to go chase instant glory but to me, starting in a rebuild, working your way up and then winning it is way more enjoyable. The grass is also not always greener on the other side, some of those prospects were thriving here and when they left, they are now struggling on much more talented teams and not getting much ice time, so for me I want to stay" Those comments are what every fan and the management team want to hear from their top end prospects. Roger has been building strong connections with the city and the fans and seems to want to help lead the team back to playoff contention. It also seems like Roger wants to become one of the all time goalie greats in LA in line with Art Vandelay and Doug Dimmadome. "Those guys are legends here in Los Angeles and I hope when my time is done in this league that I am up there with those legends as one of the greatest to play for LA " Roger said "That is the goal and I will be working hard day in and day out to achieve those goals. I think LA had a rough go in the last couple of seasons but we are on the right track and the fans will get to see progress soon"
  11. I mean LA is in the wildcard mix and no first round pick that is ours. Don't think were under the definition of tanking (and yes I read the rest of the blurb about LA ) I do agree with CIA. Get rid of the conferences, top 8 make playoffs, bottom 8 miss.
  12. 1) If you're participating in any of the fantasy games (Fantasy League or Super Coach) how are you doing in them? 2) If you could pick any VHL player since S1, who would you pick as your top Fantasy League pick? 3) If you could have the credit for creating any piece of art (Painting, Music, Movie, Game .etc) which piece of art would you choose? Would you choose based on the money and fame or would you choose a piece of art you really enjoyed?
  13. Even with the sell-off during the off-season to begin a rebuild, Los Angeles in the early part of the season so far is still in contention for a wildcard spot. The Stars have been playing surprisingly well and if they were in the European division, they may have actually been a lock for the spot. With the North American conference a bit more challenging, the Stars will have to keep up this level of play for the rest of the season. "It's a great morale boost for the guys here, knowing that there is a chance and pushing every game to ensure that we do our best" Roger said "The fans are enjoying the run as well, they're coming out and supporting us and we have been able to squeeze out some wins that many thought we would have no chance of winning" The Stars have been led by Mattias and Lose, both with 33 points and Eagles who is sitting at 3 shut-outs, .926 save % and a 2.8 goals against average. Fans are now wondering how well could the team have done if the off-season didn't happen. Could the Stars have been a lock for the playoffs?
  14. After what appeared to be a rough off-season from the LA stars, losing two top prospects with the trade of Pombo and retirement of I-Smell, it seemed like that would be the worst of the news that players and fans would have this season. To everyone's surprise that was not yet the worst of it. Newley acquired forward Gustav announced his retirement before playing a single game for LA and between this news and after losing those prospects and the draft pick cupboard pretty bare, the Stars management decided that the team needed to re rebuild. No player was safe and the fans were ready for another disappointing season. Management let the players know of the new direction and then the trades hit one after the other. Phantom of the VHL was shipped to Seattle for a 1st, 2nd and 3rd round pick in this upcoming draft. Next Thorvaldsson was shipped to Vancouver for a Toronto and Riga first round pick and Joe Block. Eagles was the newest but also last man standing of what was LA's core players that the team thought they would build around. "It was definitely a shock and things spiraled pretty quickly. I understand where the management is coming from and they communicated to us what will be happening" Roger said "Even after all these moves I am still happy to be part of LA and become on of this teams cornerstone pieces moving forward" Even with the massive sell-of, leaving the team with just a handful of players, the Stars still have been performing pretty well. The starts are 7-10-1 and won against a few playoff contending teams such as the Wranglers and the Bears. Roger Eagles has been performing very well, even with not much support in front of him. He has already hit 2 shut-outs and sits at a .922 save percentage and 2.93 goals against average. Many are wondering if the trigger was pulled to early on the trades, since the team seems to be doing OK with the group they had and may have done better with Phantom and Thorvaldsson. "I am not complaining about our start considering all the factors, we can only grow from here. I think in the bigger picture the right move was made by management to get this team back on track" Roger said "I am feeling great on the ice and I believe I can set personal bests in all categories even with a weaker team in front of me. I am not going to play worse due to what happened this off-season, this only motivates me to play better and see how far we can go as a team in the next few seasons. Sure my end of season prediction last season was to make the playoffs and I know that won't happen, but who knew that this off-season would happen like the way it did. Now my goal is to do the best I can and set some personal bests" LA will look to rebuild there prospect pool in the upcomming draft. This may have set them back 2-3 seasons but in the end the faith to return to the playoffs soon is still there. Eagles and Management will be pushing to make that happen.
  15. Questions 1) How has your player being doing so far this season? Any improvements you want to see them make? 2) Final game of the season, You're on a 2 on 1 breakaway, your team-mate is 1 goal away from reaching 500 goals, you're looking for your first ever career goal. You have a 70% chance to score while he has a 75% chance to score. Do you shoot or do you pass? 3) What inspires you to better yourself?
  16. With 2 shut-outs in the first 13 games played, Roger, has set a new personal best in that category. All last season he only managed 1 and so far this season he has doubled his shut-outs in the first quarter of the season. "I feel a lot better then last season and starting to play my game more" Roger said "It's great to get shut-outs and its always a boost to the team. In this Sophomore season, I think I will reach a few personal bests even though we have entered a re-rebuild with the Stars. Our team might be slightly weaker then last season, but I feel like by playing better in net we may even end up higher up the standings then everyone thinks. We had some big wins already against contending teams so we will see what happens." Roger has showed that his off-season training has paid off with his recent start and this in front of a team that was dismantled in the off-season. The Stars due to some unfavorable circumstances needed to re-start their rebuild and have made Roger Eagles the cornerstone of the new directions for the Stars.
