The season has finally ended and Greg Eagles has played in his first VHL Season. It was an up and down season but many saw the future potential of this up and coming prospect. He has learned quite a bit from his team-mates and especially the teams veteran goalies Kingfisher. Eagles played in 19 games this season with 16 of those being full game starts. His record was pretty good going 6-7-3 with a .902 save percentage and a 2.85 GAA. He was given more starts then the league required minimum which shows that his team and coaches have faith in his abilities. The 2.85 GAA landed Eagles 7th overall in the league but since he only played 19 games you can’t really compare him to other goalies who played a full season. Yet it is still impressive that he managed to pull of those numbers in his rookie season. “ I think as my first season as a backup that I put up pretty respectable numbers. I tried to give my team the best chance to win every night and to also show everyone what I am capable of” Said Eagles “ I am happy with my stats and next year my goal will be to do even better and improve on those stats, I think we will have a great team next season which will help in that goal” With Eagles getting 19 games this helped Kingfisher with his workload and to make sure Kingfisher was rested and at 100% for the playoffs. This tactic seems to have paid off as Kingfisher currently has the second best Save % and GAA in the playoffs. He also seems to be playing much better then he did in the first half of the season. “ It’s a long season for sure, especially after being in the league for so long and doing this season after season, its good to get some rest and have your backup play” Said Kingfisher “ I think it was important for me to get rest and for me to understand that it is ok to take a break. It has definitely paid off as I feel great heading into the playoffs” “It changes every year, how many games we rest our starter but you would have to ask Kingfisher how it affected him. Maybe the mental rest helped, you know helped him sort of reset. We always discuss how much we want to play our number 1 and how much we want to play our number 2 for development purposes” Said the Wolves coach “I think that both our goalies are very professional and are helping each other out, I know Eagles learned a lot from Kingfisher and hopefully that will carry over when he becomes our future starter" The focus now, for Eagles, is to be the support system on the bench. He can be seen helping the coach with plays and talking to his team-mates on how to find more open space. The Wolves currently have a 3-2 series lead and are hoping to close out the series tomorrow.

1. So we made it to the playoffs. How do you feel about our standings? We finished off the second half of the season great. Helped us get 2nd place and an "easier" opponent. 2. What do you think our chances are of making it out of the first round? I believe we will win in 6. We have the quality and active members to have no problems beating Calgary. 3. What about out of our chances of making it out of our conference? Vancouver will once again be in the finals. We have been playing well and have great momentum heading into the playoffs 4. What do you think we need to do to get more pucks past Brick Wahl? Keep shooting, only way to score. We need to tire him out with tons of shots. 7. What goal to you personally have for this playoffs? Wolves cheerleader on the bench ;) haha just kidding. My goal is to gain as much experience as I can to help me in the future and to help out our team-mates in practice if they need extra time with a goalie 10. If you could change one thing about our season this year what would it be? Those one goal games really hurt us, only change would be to make sure we finish out games. In the grand scheme of things even with the couple one goal games we would have still ended up in second

Close game, we will get them next one

The VHL playoffs are finally here and Eagles is excited by Vancouver's potential to go far. The Wolves completed a great turn-around in the second half to finish the season in 2nd place. " It's definitely exciting watching the turn-around, all our players clicked and we managed to get home ice advantage" Said Eagles " It was a close race, 2nd to 6th was only separated by 3 points so it was an exciting finish" The Wolves now switch gears and are training heavily for the playoffs. If the Wolves can keep the momentum going from the second half of the season they should have no problems going far in the playoffs. " It would be great if we can make the finals again, I know Vancouver were close last year when I was playing in the VHLM and this year I want to be part of that run and help support from the bench, All our players are ready to go and it would just be an underachievement if we didn't end up in the finals once more" Eagles said from this morning practice

1. We sit in 3rd in the North American Conference down only 2 points, Do you think we will make them up? Definitely, we just need a couple more of the 1 goal games to go our way and we will be fine! 2. How have you been playing of late? I think I have been playing pretty well with the starts I have received. There has been more good games then bad games 3. If you could change one thing about your game what would it be? I need to work on hand speed, have been getting beat glove side 5. How do you see our chances in the playoffs? I think we can make the finals again as long as everyone is clicking 6. What do you think about Expansion? I think its good for the league and will give more playing opportunities to upcoming players. The league has really grown over the last couple seasons 7. What has been your favorite game this season? I think Game 262 vs Moscow. The team played really well and it was my first 1st star in the VHL

Finally a 1 goal game that goes our way

Eagles wants to be an investor if a team goes to Wroclaw In recent months there have been a lot of rumors about an expansion to VHL. Today it was announced that 2 teams will be joining the VHL. In this article we discuss putting a team in Poland in the city of Wroclaw. Wroclaw is a city in Western Poland with a population of 630,000+. It is one of the more popular cities in Poland and has hosted many great sporting events such as Euro 2012 football championships and was also named the European Capital of Culture in 2016. Greg Eagles, who currently plays for Vancouver Wolves, mentioned earlier today that he would definitely be interested as an investor for getting a team in Wroclaw. “ I think it is about time Poland gets some representation in the VHL, you can’t pick a better city then Wroclaw and I would be more then happy to help invest in getting a team there” Said Eagles " Maybe in the future I would also like to play for them but right now I just want to be a behind the scenes investor, I am very happy in Vancouver and I don't see myself leaving anytime soon but if a team goes to Wroclaw then I want to be 100% involved" Wroclaw is seen as a great location as it has the population to support a team, very good transportation to support fans getting to and from the city and it is the second wealthiest city in Poland, just behind the Polish capital of Warsaw. There are also plenty of sponsorship opportunities with great local business and also national businesses. Interest in hockey is starting to rise in Wroclaw as the Vancouver Wolves games are being streamed by a local Wroclaw sports station. Greg Eagles is also on the forefront of spreading hockey in his home town and makes annual visits in the off-season to help promote the sport and to run hockey clinics for the youth in the area. “ I think it’s great that more kids are looking to play hockey, Wroclaw is a very soccer dominated city but the more sports that the kids get to experience the better for them. “ Said Eagles “ I love going back and teaching everyone how to play hockey and teaching them the rules, I think within the next few years Wroclaw will be a great hockey city and having a team represented in the VHL would be a great motivational factor in helping the game grow here” Currently there is a hockey league in Poland called the Polska Hokej Liga but it is not as popular as the VHL and mostly consists of teams only from the south. Stadium capacities for these leagues are also small with arenas not being bigger then 5000 capacity. If the VHL were to put a team in Wroclaw, the Polska Hokej Liga could be used as more of a feeder league for future VHL players. Putting a team in Wroclaw can also help VHL with merchandising income as Polish fans are very loyal to their teams and love to spend money on merchandise. Having at least one Polish team in a popular league can help unite every hockey polish fan to root for Wroclaw which will significantly help VHL’s bottom line. As of now, no one knows where the 2 teams will land but many are hoping that one of the two will land in Poland and if it does, you can be sure Greg Eagles would be involved in helping bring a team to his home country

Recently it was announced that the VHL will be expanding by 2 teams. We spoke with Greg Eagles to get his thought on the announcement " I think it is great, always a good sign to see a league expand. Means that the interest is there and new players are coming in every day" Said Eagles " For me it would be great to see a team in Poland as that is where I was born but I know the VHL owners will make the right decisions on where to place a franchise" Not much information has been posted yet as it will be revealed in the off-season, but from the general consensus from players it seems like this is a very positive move for the league. It will give more opportunities for players to play more minutes and will give new opportunities to play for a brand new team for vet players who are hoping to make their mark in the league. The question that remains to be seen is will the new expansion teams take a few seasons to develop or will they go the route of the Las Vegas Knights in the NHL and have an instant impact on the league?
