  14. Lynx looking to pull away from the pack After playing 26 games so far in the VHLM season, the Ottawa Lynx currently find themselves seven points ahead of the Minot Gladiators for first place in the VHLMs North American conference. With only five losses so far on the season it looks as though the Lynx will be the team to beat this season thanks in large part to the roster assembled by their General Manager. Today we’ll look at the roster and how they've progressed on the ice so far this season. Plenty to celebrate about for Ottawa so far this year Mike Szatkowski Jr. After being taken second overall by the Lynx in the latest VHLM Dispersal Draft big things were expected by Szatkowski even before he stepped on the ice for the Lynx. The last line of defense for the Lynx, Szatkowski has really started to hone his game after what could be considered a slow start for the young phenom. Szatkowski has started all 26 games this season for the Lynx and leads the VHLM with 21 wins so far on the young season. Szatkowski also sits second in the league behind Gladiators back-stopper Que Cumberbatch with a save percentage of .905 and goals against average of 2.35. The Lynx will need Szatkowski to continue to keep improving on his great season for the team to have any chance at hopefully bringing home the Founders cup at the end of the season. Robin Gow Another draft choice in the past VHLM Dispersal Draft for the Lynx, Robin has been extremely impressive in the first season in the VHLM. Gow has been an offensive force for the team posting 16 goals and 35 assists so far on the young season. Gow has also been a key component on the power play for the Lynx with 11 of his fifty-one points coming with the man advantage. Gow was the fourth overall pick by the Lynx and like Szatkowski big things were expected from the center man who hails from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. If Gow continues on his horrid pace throughout the entire season, look for the youngster to be in contention for league MVP at the end of the season. Frédérik Ernst Ernst was acquired by the Lynx from the Turku Outlaws after his first season last year in the VHLM. Ernst didn’t have a spectacular season with the Outlaws in his first VHLM season, putting up just three goals and forty-seven points in seventy-two games. Ernst did show the potential VHL scouts have been shouting all season finally during the seven games the Outlaws played in the post-season, putting up seven points in seven games in the first round loss against the Iron Eagles. Ernst has shown his potential in his second full season in the VHLM already almost surpassing his point totals from last season. Ernst currently has eight goals and 34 assists for the Lynx his season, which is good enough for fourth on the Lynx scoring sheets. After being selected in the first round of the VHL Entry Draft last season Ernst had a lot to prove to Express management and himself in terms of production and it seems he has found his groove. Brennan McQueen The only player on the list who has already played a full season in front of the Ottawa faithful, McQueen was honored by the club this season with the teams’ captaincy. McQueen seems to be very impatient with his progress for far on the season but the members inside the locker room would tell a much different tale that that from McQueen’s own mouth. Nineteen goals and ten assists in good enough for a point per game pace for the young forward, but being the professional McQueen is he isn’t happy with just a point per game. McQueen has the second most goals on the Lynx roster behind that of newly acquired forward Jeevan Samuelsson. McQueen is a constant professional on and off the ice, with the results that McQueen wishes coming to him sooner then he believes.

  23. VHL running smoothly time to move on quickly approaching After a long hiatus the Victory Hockey League is back running, possibly even better than before. Although many key members still haven’t returned to normal activity the league is seeing games being simmed on a more regular basis, unlike the many seasons before when days would pass without any game activity. I found myself tired and wanting a break from the league after assisting in the move, which a lot of what I did ended up being pointless in the end. I contemplated leaving like I have done in the past after all the dust settled and everything was back on track, but a free two weeks without writing an article kind of gave me the vacation I needed from the league. With everything in my life moving at a pace I didn't expect to happen for a while, I don’t know how much time I can commit to helping the league like I truly want to, but taking a hour out of my week shouldn't be too much of a hassle to do what I need to do to have a semi successful player in the VHL. No matter what happens to my current player in the league, I do wish everyone that has spent time on this board the best in their future endeavors.
